RESULTS HALF MOON BAY TUESDAY 29 OCTOBER 2024

Another round of FNQVGA golf and another hone-in-one. This time Dave Jackson managed to get a ball to slide down the 3rd Green flag stick and into the bottom of the cup; an impressive effort well done Dave! 51 players played an individual stableford yesterday in warm but very comfortable conditions at Yorkey's Knob.

The lush greens seem to be to the liking of golfers especially the men's Div 11 players where John Bawden and Peter McMenamin both on 41pts, had to be separated by a count back system.

We had two visitors, Johnno Dean from Cardwell and  Maurice van Merch from South Africa who has been with us for a few weeks now. We also had one new member Joy Westmore from HMB, Welcome all.

A big thank you to the management and staff of Half Moon Bay Golf Club for your hospitality and support for 2024. Also thnks to Todd and Cath's Kitchen for great food before and after golf. Nothing is too much trouble for this pair.

Our sponsor today was Rich Michalski, thanks for your generosity.

RESULTS CAIRNS GOLF CLUB TUESDAY 22 OCTOBER

A great filed of 81 players (64 men and 17 ladies) enjoyed almost perfect conditions when they played an 18 hole individual Stableford at Cairns Golf Club this morning. With the pins still in 2024 Piccone Cairns Open positions,  it was only the precise players who were able to score well, but it still would have taken  a good effort with the flat stick.

A big thank you to all at the Cairns Club this morning for making us feel very welcome, from the pro shop, to bar staff and management who were ever willing to help out at presentation time.It was good to see the absolute hive of activity involved with the redevelopment of the 10th hole. It certainly looks like a mammoth task and FNQVGA wish the club well in this project.

Our sponsor today was the very generous Mark Davidson from Davidson Coaching. If you were wondering why Mark did not present the prizes today - it was because the match committee was too slack to ask him. Apologies Mark.

We had three visitors today: Derek Jones from South Lakes Golf Club in Goolwah  South Australia, Jon Hall from Mackay  Golf Club and Merv vanMerk from South Africa. We also have a new member Greg Dowling. Welcome all!

Special thanks also to Association members Lois Tait, Di Diversi and Col Johannsen who stepped up to help out today while we are short on numbers at the Captains desk. You effort is greatly appreciated.

RESULTS GORDONVALE 15 OCTOBER 2024

On a day that started out threatening, then mizzling and finally fine but windy 51 Players (43 men and 8 ladies) tackled the 4BBB stableford format at Gordonvale yesterday. The fairways were full of running, the greens recently renovated and all players eager to not let their partners down. It is great to see the greens with a good coverage of grass: they have come a long way in 12 months. Thanks to Mick and Josh in the clubhouse for attending to our need today.

The highlight of the day was a magnificent hole- in-one by relative newbie Chris Ireland. Yesterday the par 3 5th was playing at 107m and a well placed 9 iron from Chris found the bottom of the cup. After only three years of playing golf this is his second ace and President Pete is not jealous- much! Well done.

Our very generous sponsors today was the Reef Hotel Casino. Where luxury meets excitement and you can dine, stay be entertained or have a little flutter. But remember chances are you are about to lose.

We don't play 4BBBs very often and the one earlier in  the year was washed out. There are many vets who have taken up the game recently and perhaps have not played and scored  these competitions. So, for future reference see below for what a 4BBB card should look like. Or of course you can just use the MiScore App which does this painlessly.

Half Moon Bay Results Tuesday 1 October

An outstanding day, weather wise,  probably didn't receive the response it deserved when 56 FNQVGA golfers (44 men and 12 ladies) enjoyed the challenging layout at Yorkeys this morning. As the fairways dry out in the lead up to  another wet season, it was nice to get some run but still have the greens holding nicely. The green keeping staff are to be congratulated on the way they have the course presented at the moment.

We had one new member today, Matt Brading from HMB as well as one visitor from Carbrook GC via Cardwell. Welcome to you both!
