President's Message 14th December 2010

The sun came out and really turned the heat up on the 114 golfers who played the 2 person Ambrose. While the condition of the course was quite wet in places, the overall condition was very good considering the rain we have experienced lately.

The event was sponsored by Easylift, the prizes were great and plenty of them. Thank you Easylift, Jeff and Carly Hatswell!

We completed our season with the Presentation of trophies played for throughout the year and a lunch to celebrate the end of our year. Congratulations to all the winners.

Next season starts up in about 6 weeks time, the first game at Mareeba on the 1^stFebruary 2011.

Thank you to all the members who supported us during the year, we had large fields playing in our competitions.

Thank you to the Committee, who gave up so much of their time to ensure the year ran smoothly without any problems.

On behalf of the Committee I would like to wish everyone of you a “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” and safe travel wherever you may venture.

1. SPECIAL TROPHIES
The Adrian Fay Shield, Ted Thomasson Memorial Shield, Patrons Trophy, Shirley Fieldhouse Shield, Ted Stanton/ Bob Bailey Memorial Trophy and Club Championships are to be played annually under the jurisdiction of the Association Match Committee. To be eligible to play in these competitions the following requirements apply:
(a) A player must have been a financial member of the Association for a period of 2 months prior to the date set down for the playing of the Association’s Championships and have played in at least three events set out in the Association’s Program prior to the Championships.
(b) The Adrian Fay Shield is awarded each year to the player having the best thirty six (36) hole nett result over the two eighteen hole rounds of the Club Championship.
(c) The Ted Thomasson Memorial Shield is awarded each year to the player having the best aggregate of three of five nominated eighteen hole Stableford rounds.
(d) The Consistency Trophy shall be awarded to the player who has the highest stableford aggregate over their best ten (10) of the nominated single stableford events played within the FNQVGA Inc. calendar year.
(e) The Championship Plaque is awarded each year to the player having the best thirty six (36) hole gross score on the occasions of the two eighteen hole rounds of the Club Championships.
(f) The Don Thomson 70 and over Trophy will be awarded to the player (70 or over at the time of the first Championship match ) with the best gross score over thirty six (36) holes.
(g) The Mens Championship shall be played in Mens Grades “A”, “B”and“C”. Grades will be determined by the FNQVGA prior to the Championships, it will be based on equalising best as possible numbers in each grade.
(h) The Ted Stanton/Bob Bailey Memorial Trophy shall be awarded to the player who has the best nett score over three (3) nominated rounds which must include the two (2) rounds of the Club Championships.
(i) The Shirley Fieldhouse Shield is awarded each year to the woman having the best thirty six (36) hole stroke score on the occasion of the two Club Championship rounds.
(j) The Patrons Trophy is awarded to the player with the best aggregate stableford score on the occasion of playing at the nine (9) hole courses through the Calendar.
(k) Deciding ties in all events. The first countback decision will be the best score for the last 18 holes played, followed by the best score for the second 9 holes on that card, followed by the last 6 holes,3 holes, last hole, then holes back until a winner is determined.
MEMBERSHIP
(a) Annual membership fees shall be due and payable on the date of the first playing fixture in each calendar year. A player who is not financial will not be eligible to win trophies.
(b) A player must be 55 years or over and a member of a registered Golf Club and must be in receipt of an AGU handicap to become a member of FNQVGA

The weather cleared and we had a great day at Atherton Golf Club. There were 94 players who enjoyed the course, the weather conditions and the company.

The course is in very good condition, the greens, excellent.

Thank you Atherton Golf Club for sponsoring today’s event and all the other events held at Atherton Golf Club.

We are nearing the end of our 2010 season, it has been a successful year, with good attendance numbers at all courses and great attitude by our members. Thank you for your participation and co-operation.

Next Tuesday, 14^th December 2010 at Cairns Golf Club we are holding the Annual Christmas Lunch and Presentation after playing a 2 Ball Ambrose. It is a shotgun start at 8:30am, that means all players need to be booked in by 8:15am. Please arrange a partner for the 2 Ball Ambrose, but if you are looking for a partner, we will find one for you. The cost is $27 for members and $50 for visitors. The 2 Ball Ambrose event is sponsored by Easylift.

The 2011 Program will be available for distribution on Tuesday, also I will email a copy to everybody on my email list.

Don’t forget the Tableland Summer of Golf commencing at Atherton on Dec. 21^st. This is conducted by the Tableland Golf Clubs. Programs will be available at Cairns Golf Club on Tuesday
