AN ADDENDUM

I forgot in the earlier blog to thank three wonderful ladies who have stepped up while Anita, Dougie and Di are having a well earned break- Lois Tait, Cathy Coverdale and Doreen Law, who rose to the occasion this morning,   on our busiest day this year. How good do they make our Vice President Neal look?

RESULTS CAIRNS TUESDAY 25 AUGUST. BIFF'S RED ROOSTER DAY.

The best field so far this year enjoyed the excellent weather and the very well presented Cairns Golf Course this morning when 88 players (64 men and 24 ladies) basked in the sun at Wooree this morning . And it was the ladies who shone most with Edna Atkinson winning the ladies' prize with an amazing 43 stableford points, and Kay Bergiel being runner up on a count back from Yusuko Moote both with 40 points.Well done ladies. Brendan and his team are to be congratulated on the course at the moment with the tees being a standout!

We had one visitor John Burns and a returning member Greg Perrott. Welcome back!

We say farewell to Tom and Marg Finch (Yarrambat Vic) , and Kaye Pittman (Shoalhaven Heads NSW)who will be heading south in the near future, apparently it has become warm enough. We look forward to see you next year.

And a thank you to the Cairns Club for your hospitality, we really appreciated the attention we are afforded.

Our sponsor today was Red Rooster, thanks to Damian "Biff" Caldwell for your generosity

RESULTS ATHERTON TUESDAY 18 2026

About 138 FNQVGA members choose to stay at home today. Who can blame them? Three layers of clothing is not what we in the far north are used to when we play golf. But for the 41 golfers ( 30 men and 11 ladies) who took up the challenge and played in the Cazalys sponsored single stableford, it was an opportunity to improve their standing in the illustrious  Consistency Series. And some players did! mostly Atherton players, but that doesn't matter! Thanks to Mick and his mate who got the hire carts ready and rolled the greens beyond the average vet golfers speed comprehension! To the lovely Myah who served the drinks and made the egg's roll- thank you.  We'll be back in Atherton on 20 October and personally  I cant wait.

Thanks to our generous and loyal sponsor today Cazalys. Little known fact-Cazalys through AFL Cairns maintains all the AFL grounds in the Cairns region, just like FNQRL maintains all the rugby league ovals!

One new member's first outing today Mark Hayward from Millaa Millaa.

Next week: Cairns Golf Club for a single Stableford sponsored by Red Rooster. Tee off from 7am.

Thanks to the Half Moon Bay  for hosting this year's Champs- the course was a pleasure to play on. Thanks to the Pro Shop staff for looking after Buggy bookings. Once again Todd and Cath's Kitchen kept us well nourished.

TUESDAY 11 AUGUST 2026 FNQVGA ROUND 2

The second and final round of the FNQVGA Championships will be played on Tuesday 11 August at the Half Moon Bay Golf Club, Yorkeys Knob . All Association members and visitors are welcome to play in a nett competition held in conjunction sponsored by Drummond Golf Cairns.

In the Men's Championships Dave Lawler has skipped to an early lead and will take some running down from there. "Pommy"English is in a trio of players in second place , and,  he is also the B Grade leader! He would need a few ruck infringements to go against him to lose it from there- perhaps that can be arranged.

The C Grade sees a three way encounter between Ron Sylvester Matt Brading and Peter Dalziel with Chris Stewart a further shot behind. The smart money is on the Gordonvale Guy to overcome the locals by a shot.

Lyn Small appears to have the Ladies sown up, but stranger things have happened - by that I mean  the 5th Hole!

Good luck to everyone!

BABINDA RESULTS TUESDAY 28 JULY

Babinda receives an average annual rainfall of about 4,279.4 millimeters (168.5 inches) and duly claims the Golden Gumboot,  48mm of that fell in the last 24 hours and of that,  only about 4mm fell while 36 FNQVGA (32men and 4 ladies) played the second of the Patrons Trophy. The winner in the mens has some credentials for wet weather play- just watch the second game of the 1984 State of Origin series!

The Babinda course is a testament to what like minded people can do when they pull together. The course is in excellent condition and the hospitality is second to none- all we need is for the weather to cooperate now.

We had two new  members join today Ross Forder and Shane Porter  both from Half Moon Bay.

Next week we start our FNQVGA Championships at Half Moon Bay. 36 Hole Gross Event with nett prizes each day.

MAREEBA RESULTS TUESDAY 21 JULY.

A reasonable roll up of 57 FNQVGA golfers (46 men and 11 ladies) including Noel Rawlins a visitor from Surfers Paradise enjoyed great condition on the Mareeba Golf Course this morning. The 4 Tee start was met with unanimous  approval.  The morning started off clear and calm but the predicted change came through at about 10.30 when the increase in wind speed made the second half more challenging.  Thanks to the Mareeba hospitality especially jack of all trades, Brian who look after bar, buggies and lunch with aplomb

We understand that this is the last time we will experience  Mareeba under the control of Greens Super Karl. We wish you every success in your future ventures.

Next week we continue the Patron's Trophy series at the picturesque Babinda Golf Course sponsored by the Reef Hotel Casino.
