RESULTS MAREEBA TUESDAY 14 APRIL

As promised, the Mareeba Golf Course provided more of a challenge that we have had all year this morning when 51 FNQVGA golfers (41 men and 10 ladies) played the third round of the 2026 Consistency series. Gone were the preferred lies we have played all year. The greens were hard and fast in preparation for the Steggles Mareeba Open this weekend, and the rough was suitably punishing for errant drives and approaches. Thank you to Brian in the clubhouse for helping us get started. And an even bigger thank you to the Mareeba Superintendent and his band of merry men for preparing the course.

Our generous sponsors Elements Air and Refrigeration are to be thanked as well.

Next week we move to the coast to play a 2Ball Ambrose at Half Moon Bay , get yourself a partner for the 7am tee off.

The Half Moon Bay Golf course had had over 70mm of rain in the 24 hours to 6am this morning when the FNQVGA decided to change its competition set down for today from a 2Ball Ambrose to an individual stableford on the dry Gray Course. And what a good move it was. 51 players (45men and 6 ladies ) flexed their muscles on this shorter course and no fewer than 6 players recorded 40 stableford points, including GD who was only defeated by the Australian Count-back System for the Mens Div 1 prize.

Thanks to everyone at Yorkeys for accommodating us so ably, and especially the Green Staff for the  excellent condition of a well watered course,  especially the uniform greens.

GORDONVALE TUESDAY 17 FEBRUARY RESULTS

A very hot and humid morning at Gordonvale,  could not deter 52 intrepid FNQVGA golfers (44 men and 8 ladies) from taking on the very difficult challenge on the well prepared Gordonvale Golf Club  this morning. Just before tee off the relative humidity had reached 100% and the anemometer read calm. You know you really are in trouble when the breeze finally does come up and it is from the NE. But soldiered on we did- well done everyone.

And how good does the Gordonvale Club look- new tee block info boards , new rubbish bins and a new water cooler.! Manager Mel and her assistant in bright new shirts! Congratulations to all involved.

We had four new members join today. Chris Tometzki relocating from Pacific Golf Club, Ian Nicholas from Gordonvale and Ray Greig and Sean Gayler both from Cairns. Welcome aboard were sure you will enjoy the ride.

While on the subject of exceptional, local candidate for State of Origin GOAT Greg Dowling, in on fast track to become the GVOAT (Greatest Veteran Golfer of All Time).  Not has he won all but one of the Summer of Golf series on the Tablelands , the other one he was an absentee, he has won both opening rounds of  FNQVGA 2026 with another 40 stableford points today. He won with 42 points the last time we were in Gordonvale last year. His handicap surely  is heading towards single figures.

We would like to thanks our returning sponsor Cazalys for their generous support of Vets Golf. They are Cairns’ premier club for casual drinks, easy family-friendly dining plus entertainment for all. Popular sports bar, gaming, kids room, cafe, members promotions and weekly Bingo & Trivia sessions.
