Vice President's Report 29th March 2011

All,

The day dawned very overcast with a forecast of showers, but as the first groups teed off at Half Moon Bay golf club, the sun came out and a fine day was enjoyed on a course in great condition.

Winners enjoyed excellent prizes supplied by the club, who sponsored the event and also laid on a sausage sizzle which was most welcome.

We welcomed four new members, Judy Ellis & Rosemary Barker of Half Moon Bay club, May Wilkinson of Cairns club, and Don Peters of Gordonvale club, bringing our membership for the year to date up to 201

Our Treasurer is still eagerly accepting subscriptions for 2011. Please present your Membership card for validation when paying.

We have FNQVGA shirts in various sizes available at $30 for short sleeves & $35 for long, with the latter being available shortly. We also have some older style shirts available reduced to $10.

Next games are at Mareeba on 5th April, and Mossman on 12th April, both Single Stableford, with the former being the first round of nine comprising the competition for a driver donated by Drummond Golf.

Hope to see you there.

Half Moon Bay Game 29th March is ON

All,

Our Captain Roger reports that the course at Half Moon Bay is in very good condition with 18 holes open and all the bunkers raked and back in play (which will be an interesting experience for those of us who have become used to them being GUR).

Hopefully the weather will stay kind to us & we can leave our wellies at home!

Also, Craig Thomson of Drummond Golf will be there to show off the TaylorMade Burner Superfast 2.0 Driver that will be played for over 9 games starting on 5th April.

See you there.

Vice President's Report 22nd March 2011

All,

Cairns Golf Club kindly agreed to fit us in for a game today to help make up games missed earlier this year because of all the rain we have had.

Unfortunately, yesterday dark clouds threatened another deluge, which may have put off some of our members, so we only mustered 47 die hards.

Despite the course receiving some heavy rain overnight, which made the conditions very soggy in spots, the greens were in good condition, apart from a couple that had been sanded, and the tough going was overcome to some extent by preferred lies/tee ups.

To cap the day off, the forecast showers for late morning did not eventuate & we enjoyed a sunny day, so thanks to all who turned up & to the Cairns staff who looked after us.

Some of you may not know that the Cairns Club Manager, Charlie, left recently to care for his seriously ill wife & we wish them both well.

Next week's game is at Half Moon Bay Golf Club where we will have a representative from Drummond Golf showing off the TaylorMade Burner Superfast driver, which is their donated prize for our recently advertised competition over 9 games commencing on 5th April at Mareeba (see earlier post).

See you there.

Cairns Game 22nd March is ON

Veterans,

Since Ross is swanning around in NSW for a couple of weeks, I'll be looking into playing conditions for our next few games.  (I was going to congratulate him on taking the rain south with him at the weekend, but he may have sent it back this afternoon.)

Cairns golf course is in play, although carts are restricted to cart tracks, so the game there tomorrow 22nd March is ON.

Hope to see lots of you there.

Atherton Game 15th - CANCELLED

Veteran Golfers

The wet weather has once again caused us to cancel our scheduled game. Atherton G.C. report the course is very wet and we could be restricted to 6 holes with carts in doubt if we played.

As I mentioned in the email/blog on Friday the Committee had scheduled an extra game on the 22nd March 2011 at Cairns G.C.  This game will stay scheduled at Cairns with the hope the rain abates and we are able to get on there.

I will have a rest for couple of weeks, Lou Siedle will be sending out the emails and updating the blog http://fnqveteransgolf.blogspot.com/

Atherton Game 15th - ????? To be Advised

Veteran Golfers

The wet weather is again harassing us. I spoke with Atherton Golf Club this morning, they will leave the decision for Tuesday 15th March until Monday. As soon as I know I will email you with the results and they will be on the blog. It depends on the amount of rain Atherton has over the weekend.

At a FNQVGA Committee Meeting it was moved to have an additional game placed on the calendar because of all the wet weather.

The date is  Tuesday 22nd March 2011, Cairns Golf Club has been booked for this game.

Drummond Golf has donated a New Model Driver (Mens or Womens) to FNQVGA to be played for over a number of rounds concluding before June. Look out for this promotion, it will be along the lines of the Consistency Competition, open to men and women. The details for the competition are being worked on now, as soon as they are completed they will be posted on the bloghttp://fnqveteransgolf.blogspot.com/

I hope you are able to get a hit at your Club over the weekend, I think every Club would like to see plenty of golfers on their courses.

Regards
Ross Bird

Cairns Game 8th March - CANCELLED

Veteran Golfers

Due to the amount of rain over the weekend, I am sorry to have to cancel tomorrows game at Cairns Golf Club.

There has been over 170mm of rain in that period and the course is very wet.

We will move on to Atherton Golf Club on the 15th March 2011, hoping for a drier week.

Tablelands  Summer of Golf event on their program for the tomorrow at Mareeba was played last week, please check with Mareeba Golf Club.

Ross Bird
