Next Game Atherton GC 28th May

Veteran Golfers

The next game on our calendar is at Atherton Golf Club next Tuesday 31st May. I have been informed Atherton Golf Course is in very good condition and they are keen to host us. Should be a good day.

It is a Single Stableford sponsored by Atherton Golf Club.

Looking forward to it!

Just a reminder, coming up in a few weeks (21/6) is the Bendigo Bank 4BBB Stableford. It is desirable to have selected your partner for this event. If you haven’t a partner we will try to match you up on the day.

The Drummond Driver Competition results to date are available from me on request & at sign in on Tuesday. Atherton is the last game in the competition, good luck to all the contestants.

The FNQVGA Open Flyer and Entry form will be posted on this blog shortly. It is a 36 Hole Stroke Event at Cairns Golf Club on the 27th and 28th June, entries close on the 21st June.

On the Tuesday 28th June the normal Single Stableford event will be run for those players not in the Open Event.

Hope to see you at Atherton on Tuesday.

Veteran Golfers

Thank you to the 137 players who played at Cairns Golf Club today. The course is in excellent condition, the greens are as fast as I have played on. Thank you Cairns Golf Club for the course presentation and the clubhouse hospitality.

Our Sponsor today is Golf World, Mulgrave Road, Cairns. They are long time sponsors of FNQ Veterans Golf and we appreciate the support given to us. Thank you.

Congratulations to Laurie Bell who had a Hole in One on the 8th Hole. It must have been a great shot!!!

Today is the second last day of the Drummond Driver Competition, I will send the list out on Friday. It might get on the blog earlier. The numbers should be real interesting!

The entry forms ( they will be emailed out to all members on the email list or otherwise available from June Willmot, Roger Smith or Lou Siedle) are now available for the FNQVGA Open on 27th and 28th June at Cairns Golf Club. This 36 Hole Open is sponsored by Savannah Lifestyle Resorts, Mareeba. Plus prizes from the raffles being conducted, it is shaping up as an event not to miss at only $20 for FNQVGA Members and $22 each for Visiting Veteran Golfers and their partners. Entry forms need to be filled out and paid by 21st June.  Entry forms from our members will be accepted at the Starters Desks when entering the normal competition.

President's Message 17th May 2011

Veteran Golfers

Thank you to the 106 players who played at Gordonvale Golf Club this morning. It started out with the weather looking a bit dismal, but we got through most of the day without getting wet.

Thank you to Drummond Golf, Cairns for sponsoring today’s event and Katrin Nash for joining us for a game. I think she inspired her playing partners with June Willmot scoring 48 points.

Gordonvale Golf Club worked hard to present us with the course. While there were some greens with a little sand on them, the course in general was in great condition. The scores indicate that, with 48, 46, 45 and a lot players with 40 points and over. Thank you to Graham and Tom for preparing the board and Nearest the Pins. Thank you Gordonvale Golf Club.

Welcome to new Members Suda Woodward and Terry Webb from Gordonvale. Welcome to visitor Keith Dudgeon from Ashgrove.

The raffle winners were 1st, Dion Reddicliffe, 2nd Bernie Donnelly, Congratulations! We will be having another raffle next week to raise funds for the 36 Hole Open on 27th and 28th June at Cairns Golf Club. Nomination forms will be available next week at the Cairns Game for the Open.

The Drummond Driver Competition is hotting up, with 7 games now played it will be interesting to see numbers after todays event. I will send them out on Friday with my weekly reminder of Tuesday’s game.

Next Games: Tuesday 24th May  2011 Cairns  Golf Club, Single Stableford, followed  by  Tuesday 31st  May 2011 Atherton Golf Club, Single Stableford,. .

Lou Siedle is back, so this will be the last results I will email out, in future they will go on the blog.

President's Message 10th May 2011

Veteran Golfers

What a great day to play golf at Mareeba Golf Club. The fairways had  plenty of run, just off the fairways even more run, the greens were deceivingly fast, I found the ball would not stop closer than a meter from the hole. The greens were in fanastic condition. Thank you Mareeba Golf Club for the course preparation and the hospitality.

The event was sponsored by  Steggles/Baiada, Mareeba, thank you. That means plenty of Vets winners are having Chicken for dinner tonight. Because the prizes are frozen chickens, those winners who attended the presentation have taken their prizes, the winners who were unable to attend the presentation will be rewarded with Golf Balls instead. (The chickens, if left with me, would be a bit messy by the next Tuesday or when I see you next)

I would like to remind members of the future events: Next Tuesday 17th May we are playing at Gordonvale Golf Club followed by Tuesday 24th May at Cairns Golf Club and Tuesday 31st May at Atherton Golf Club. These three games see the completion of the Drummond Driver Competition, Craig from Drummond Golf will be attending Mareeba Golf Club on 7thJune to present the Driver to the winner. I would like to see a good number of members attend the presentation  to show Drummond Golf we appreciate their sponsorship and novel way of sponsoring a competition over 9 weeks.

Two other events are being played in our Region in the coming months The 2011 Far North Queensland Veteran Golfers Assoc. 36 Hole Open, will be played on the 27th and 28th June at Cairns Golf Club. It is a stroke event and will be played in Divisions. It will be held in conjunction with the our normal event on 28th June at Cairns. Players in the Open 36 Holes (27/6 & 28/6) will play stroke, players in the 18 Hole event (28/6) will play Stableford.  Players in the 36 Hole Open will need to nominate and pay the entry fee by 21st June.

Far North Queensland Veteran Golfers Assoc. Atherton Open at Atherton Golf Club on the 7th and 8th July, this is also a 36 Hole event with a good array of prizes.

Regards
Ross Bird
