President's Report & Results Half Moon Bay 30 Jun

Once again we all heard the rain on our roofs during the night and many decided to stay in bed rather than play golf. They were the losers! The Half Moon Bay course, once again proved to be the only place to be when the wet weather tries to interfere with our game. The fairways were no more than a little soft at worst; the bunkers were in play and the greens were lightning fast.

52 men and 11 women played for the venue vouchers donated by BROTHERS LEAGUES CLUB AND FULLER SPORTS.

As usual at this time of the year we welcome the many visitors and also our regulars who come to North Queensland to escape the southern winter.

President's Report & Open Results Cairns 23 Jun

Day 2 of our annual open tournament got off to a shakey start as the weather during the night and early in the morning was anything but favourable. However, by about 8.30 AM the sky cleared and those golf “tragics” who refuse to surrender were rewarded with a reasonable day. The course was quite damp and preferred lies were available and bunkers were deemed GUR.

We thank our sponsor DEBORAH DUFFY REAL ESTATE for providing the prizes that we all competed for and the buggy that was raffled during the tournament.

Despite the early rain there were 74 men and 20 ladies ventured onto the course. We welcomed 20 visitors to the field and promise them that normal winter weather will soon be restored and they can attend our future events with confidence.

I take this opportunity to thank all the members of our committee for all the work done to make the event a success, I also thank Manager Matt Bolton of Cairns Golf Club and his staff for the assistance and advice during and prior to the event.

2015 Open Draw 22/23 June at Cairns Golf Club

CAPTAIN'S WELCOME

I would like to welcome all entrants and their partners to the 2015 Far North Queensland Veteran Golfers Association's 36 Hole Open Tournament being held at the Cairns Golf Club on 22nd and 23rd June. This welcome is especially extended to those of you who have travelled long distances to participate and it is the hope of the FNQVGA that everybody has a great couple of days.

Attached is the draw for the event to played next Monday and Tuesday. You will find that in most cases, you will be playing at approximately the same time on both days. The majority of players who commence on the 1st hole on the Monday will commence play from the 10th on the Tuesday and vice versa. Whilst every endeavour has been made to accommodate your playing requests, please check the time sheets for any variations in your tee-times.

REGISTRATION. All Players are required to register at least 15 minutes prior to their tee time. Registration is in the Clubhouse where you will be issued your card & also be asked to have your choice of Tuesday's meal recorded.

HANDICAPS. ALL HANDICAPS WILL BE FROZEN FOR THE ENTIRETY OF THE TOURNAMENT. Scorecards will not be sent to Golflink for processing until the evening of Tuesday, 23rd June.

GOLFLINK NUMBERS. When receiving your cards from the Pro Shop, although the system should show up any incorrect Golflink Numbers, please check to ensure the number shown on your card is correct.

COMPLETION OF SCORECARDS. The scorecards being used are to be processed at the end of your round through a Card Reader. You will be required to enter your scores as normal on the card. Additionally, you will be required to place a VERTICAL LINE, relating to the hole score in the relevant number adjacent to the hole score. No crosses or other symbols are to be used. THE AREAS IN WHICH THE CARDS ARE TO BE SIGNED BY THE PLAYER AND MARKER ARE ON THE BACK OF THE CARD. DO NOT PLACE ANY MARKS OR SIGNATURES IN THE PINK AND RED AREAS ON THE FRONT OF THE CARD AT THE TOP AND/OR BOTTOM.   Forore specific instructions see under the draw.

At the conclusion of your round, prior to handing in your card, you are requested to run the scorecard through the card reader at the computer kiosk in the Clubhouse. Whilst a great many Clubs are now using some form of computer system to process their competitions, there are others that are not. If you have any difficulty or have a reluctance to enter your card, please let one of the people assisting in processing the cards know and you will receive assistance. By entering your cards, a live up-to-date Leader Board will be displayed on a T.V. set in the main Bar area and will also facilitate the finalisation of results.

There will be two Grades for the men and one Grade for women. The Men's Grades will be Division 1, 0-19, Division 2, 20-36. The Committee reserves the right to alter these Divisions on the first day. All ties will be decided by a count-back, last 9, last 6, last 3, and then individual holes back from Hole 18.

Any protests must be submitted to the Match Committee in writing, within 15 minutes of the player completing his/her round.

A full list of CONDITIONS of PLAY will be available at the Registration Desk.

I trust that everyone will have a great time, play great golf and enjoy the company of each other during their rounds and afterwards.

Thanks,
Captain Greg.
FNQVGA.

eScore
electronic golf scorecards

Scorecards should be marked with a vertical line through the box relating to the gross score returned on each hole.  Keep any marks inside the numbered boxes rather than marking beyond the edges.

Please do not mark anywhere in the red bar running across the top of the card.

Please do not mark anywhere in the pink/red panels beneath either of the scoring grids.

Be sure to record the gross number of stokes per hole, not the Stableford result on the hole.

The column headed “Strokes” or “Handicap Strokes” displays the number of handicap strokes received on each hole.  These are generally represented by “/” symbols rather than numbers to make the card more easily read.  For players off plus handicaps, a “+” is displayed against those holes where handicap strokes are given.

If a hole is scored incorrectly, cross it out and mark the correct score.  When the card is read the computer will highlight the hole and request entry of the correct score for the hole to assure accurate scoring.

If a score greater than 10 is required, mark the 10 and an additional box to arrive at the total score.  12 would require marking the 10 and the 2 boxes.

The box marked “W” is a Wipe or a Wash or a Pickup on the hole.  If marking a 4-Ball card and you pick up on the hole, mark the “W” box as the computer will know that it is a pickup rather than a wipe.

Feed the eScore card into the Optical Mark Reader with the scores facing down, and ideally with the photo end of the scorecard being fed first.  Generally cards can be fed from either end, however if the card is marked excessively across the bottom edge this can cause read errors in some instances.

When the scorecard is fed into a reader attached to a GCS touch-screen kiosk, the reader will automatically log the player on to the touch screen, display the player name and hole-by-hole score details.  If the card has been correctly marked then press the Save button to save the score and to log off from the touch screen kiosk.  Only one button press is required.

If the computer detects any errors on the card, those holes that are seen to be in error will highlight in red on the touch screen.  Touch the number relating to the correct gross score for the hole.  If there is more than one hole in error the next hole will automatically await entry of a correct score.  When errors are complete the final score will display.

Remember to sign your scorecard and that of your marker.  Signatures are recorded on the back panel of the scorecard.  An unsigned scorecard is grounds for disqualification.
