President's Report & Results Half Moon Bay 30 May

Today was another stableford round to count toward our ongoing Ted Thomasson Trophy. A field of 77 men and 19 ladies entered at Half Moon Bay and among those we welcomed new members Alan Moloney of RAAF Williamtown and Russell Wicks of Mareeba.

The sponsor today was GOLF WORLD OF CAIRNS and we were pleased to have Bob Westerman join the field as their representative. I hope that our members support the businesses that make our club viable whenever possible.

I played at the rear of the field today and was disappointed at the number of spike scuffs on the greens, particularly around the cup, so please golfers, if you do happen to drag your foot, tap the marks down for those coming behind. There was a pair of prescription sunglasses found on the course today so the owner can get them next week or contact me on 40394928.

Today is the last time we will see captain Russ Gill for 6 weeks as he is off swanning around the USA but we are lucky to have vice captain Wal Anthony standing in most weeks. Have a great trip Russ.

President's Report & Results Gordonvale 23 May

A beautiful day dawned today for our game at Gordonvale and a course in very good condition greeted our field of 78 players, including 7 ladies. The event was a 4BBB Aggregate Stableford and it was great to see two Ladies, Judy Guzzwell and May Wilkinson, walk away with the Runners Up prize.

The event today was sponsored by HEALTH AND FITNESS SOLUTIONS and the principal of the business, Scott Payne joined a number of Committee Members in our field today for what turned out to be a very enjoyable game. Prior to the presentation of trophies, Scott delivered a brief resume of what his business does and what it can do to help “older” members of our community to remain active. This includes exercise/rehabilitation programs, including cardiac recovery programs as well as talks on nutrition. If any member is thinking of steps along any of these paths, Health and Fitness Solutions would make an ideal partner.

Some sad news revolved around the passing, on Saturday, of Dave Sloss, a former veteran golfer. Dave was a Life Member and previous Captain of Half Moon Bay Golf Club and an inveterate traveller when it came to following the Vets circuit. He ceased playing in the Vets a number of years ago when his wife became ill although he retained a keen interest in what was going on in our organisation. He would have been more widely known by the “older” generation of Veteran Golfers. Our thought are with his wife, Doris, and the rest of his family.

President Roger, who at the present in swanning around Golf Courses on the Gold Coast and Northern N.S.W. will be back in the saddle next week for our game at Half Moon Bay. The event will be a Single Stableford and the second round of the Ted Thomasson Trophy.

N.B. Don't forget that Half Moon Bay put on a FREE raffle for a carton of beer for those who stay for the Presentation of Trophies.

Greg
