Next Game & Xmas Breakup Lunch Cairns 4 Dec

All,

Our next game is another easy 4BBB stableford at Cairns golf club.  The game is sponsored by Stratford Painting Contractors.

PLEASE NOTE registration will be from 6.30 as we have a shotgun start at 7.30.  Cost for the game is $30 & the Association will be subsidising a further $15. 

This is our final game of the season & we have our breakup lunch after the game at 12.30 sharp.  Groups will be allocated tables, with table numbers being shown on the board when your names go up. 

You may find yourselves seated at a table with one of our sponsors.  If so, please introduce yourselves & let them know how much their sponsorship is appreciated.  Without them your fees would be considerably higher.

In the past there have been some complaints from groups being held up by slow play & missing out on some of their meal, so please keep up with the group ahead, or the group behind you will be trampling over you to get to the prawns on time!

PS Our first game next year is on 5 Feb at Mareeba, giving you plenty of time to have lessons & practice.

President's Report & Results Gordonvale 27 Nov

Hi Members,

Todays game was at Gordonvale GC with 54 starters consisting of 45 men & 9 ladies.

Todays sponsor was GOLF WORLD who also sponsored the FNQVGA Annual Championships at Atherton GC.  Many thanks to GW for their continued support.

The weather was extremely hot and all starters completed the 18 holes with much assistance from Belinda, Claud, Chris and the Schweppes rep who continually delivered cold water/ice & drinks throughout the day. There was much debate regarding the weather to either cancel, reduce to a 9 hole comp or continue as programmed with the latter agreed to and all members did their part by playing through the heat. The course, in particular the greens were very good and in great condition considering that there has been no rain to talk of.  Congrats to Rob and Mike for their work on the course.

The AGM proceeded as planned and we breezed through all agenda items in record time. Outgoing Treasurer John (& Chris) were duly thanked for their dedication and service to the FNQVGA Committee for 3 years, well done to you both. Great job Greg Gibb as outgoing Pres. You are sorely missed. The new Treasurer, Lois Tait is eagerly awaiting to commence her tenure along with her assistant Doug Christison. Wal Anthony, Captain, Andrina Wilson, Vice Captain, Bob Billingham, Shirt Manager & fill-in, myself, President, Russ Gill, Vice President & Louis Siedle continuing as Secretary were all confirmed as the new committee. Welcome all.

All annual trophies were presented to winners in all grades, those not present can pick up their trophies & vouchers next week at Cairns, names of all winners are included in the minutes of our AGM.

Next Game, AGM & Presentations Gordonvale 27 Nov

All,

Next Tuesday our Annual General Meeting will be held at Gordonvale golf club starting at 8am sharp.  Please make sure you sign the attendance sheets that will be at the entrance to the club.

Immediately following the AGM we will have a shotgun start at 8.30, so you need to be registered before the start of the AGM.  Registration will be at the usual time of 7-8.

The game is a nice easy 4BBB stableford, but beware, as the grass in the drains is fairly long again!  Greens are continuing to improve, but there are plenty of fallen leaves amongst the trees which balls have a habit of snuggling into, so the aim, as always, is to stay on the fairway.

Sponsor for the day is Golf World Cairns.

After the game we will be having our trophy presentations to the winners of our various annual competitions as well as the daily comp. presentations.  As we have a shotgun start, we should be finishing together, so please stay on to applaud the trophy winners.

Hi Members,

Todays game was at Mareeba GC with 72 starters consisting of 56 men & 16 ladies. Todays sponsor was DRUMMOND Golf, supplier of all the latest golf equipment (gyzmos & gadgets) along with lessons available from golf professionals within the Cairns store, thanks DRUMMONDS.

Once again the weather at Mareeba was perfect and the course was in fantastic condition due to the tireless work by Rod Cade and his crew. Many thanks to Gabi behind the bar for getting the golfers away in her usual happy disposition and then for the nibblies after the game.

A reminder to all that our AGM will be held at Gordonvale Golf Club next week commencing precisely at 8am to be followed by a 4BBB Stableford shotgun start immediately at the close of the AGM. All players to be registered and in their groups in readiness prior to commencement of the AGM. Presentation for the Annual trophy winners will follow the daily prize winners after the game.

Our Patron Claud Clark spoke glowingly about Bruce Walters, a long time member of the FNQVGA who is departing shortly to take up residence at Hervey Bay. Thanks for your efforts Bruce, you are welcome back anytime.

President's Report & Results Cairns 13 Nov

Hi All,

Todays game was at CGC with 76 starters consisting of 64 men & 12 ladies. There was one new member, Russell Wicks from HMBGC. Todays sponsor was BROTHERS LEAGUES CLUB and apart from the winners and runners up who will visit Brothers to enjoy their spoils it is hoped that many of our members will also visit Brothers to enjoy their faclities in the near future as their sponsorship is much appreciated by the Vets.

The weather was yet again fantastic although extremely windy and as promised on the blog prior to the game the greens were a little slow but true. I think even Ned Kelly would have had trouble beating the winning scores below. Many thanks to Jo behind the bar as the early morning coffee is appreciated by all and Anton in the Pro shop for getting us out on time.

A reminder to all that our AGM will be held at Gordonvale Golf Club in two weeks commencing at 8am to be followed by a 4BBB Stableford shotgun start immediately at the close of the AGM. All players to be registered and in their groups in readiness prior to commencement of the AGM. I have accepted a challenge to have the AGM completed within 20 minutes which was the previous record. President's Report & Results Half Moon Bay 5 Nov

Hi All,

Todays game was at HMBGC with 81 starters consisting of 67 men & 14 ladies. There were two new members, Yvonne Gordon and Douglas Norris from Cairns Golf Club. Todays sponsor was the Half Moon Bay Golf Club which is very much appreciated by the FNQVGA members for not only sponsoring today`s game but for increasing the daily prizes by almost double the norm. In addition to sponsoring the game, HMBGC raffled off a slab of beer in appreciation of our support which was duly won by our hard working Treasurer John Everall.

The weather was yet again fantastic and the course great as evidenced by the scores below. Many thanks to Greg, Dale and their team for getting us out on time and without any hassles.

There was a very special mention to Harold Gibbons who turns 99 years young tomorrow on Melbourne Cup day, Harold was a staunch member of the FNQVGA for many years. Congratulations Harold, a great milestone achieved.  The pic shows Harold on the left with Brian Norris.
