Members,
Due to the current restrictions imposed on all Australians by the PM that gatherings of no more than 2 persons are permitted and that everyone over 70 should self isolate the FNQVGA Committee have decided to postpone all games until further advised starting immediately.
This decision has not been taken lightly and it is our responsibility to protect the health & safety of all of our members. It is our intention to return to playing at the first opportunity so please monitor the blog and when Australia returns to some sort of normality the FNQVGA will follow.
Stay safe and take care.

Hi Members,
Final approval has been given to Cairns GC to open this weekend so our game will be on Tuesday with registration 0630-0800. The clubhouse will not be open (toilets will be open) and we will set up under the verandah maintaining social distancing to conduct the normal registration of players.
The following rules apply for the weekend and these rules will be reviewed Monday and may change for our game on Tuesday in particular motorised carts may be permitted Tuesday, if required please call the club after 4pm on Monday to enquire;
Competition & Social Play:
· One Tee Start only, groups of 4 at 10 minute intervals
· No Motorised Carts in use (due to sanitary requirements & large player numbers)
· Walking Golf only (limited pull buggies available for hire)
· No Alcohol for Sale for on course Consumption
· Absolutely No BYO Alcohol (Instant ejection and potential Disciplinary action)
· Social distancing, min 1.5m with no congregating of players.
· Driving Range is open with all above rules in place.
· Clubhouse Closed (Locker Room open for Access to Clubs)
· Cups are placed in centre of all Greens (No Pins/flags, No NTP’s)
· Bunkers GUR (no rakes on course)
· No congregating post game, players must leave facility directly after game
· Self Scoring of own card, no need for Marker Signature.
It is in our best interests to abide by all of these limitations as we are the targeted group that this virus is attacking so please do your part and enjoy the game. It would be very much appreciated if you could bring the exact amount of $17 per player to save extra handling of money.
There will not be a formal presentation and results will be placed on our blog as per normal after the game.
Stay safe & enjoy.

President Report & results for Atherton GC 17 Mar 20
PRESIDENT
REPORT – ATHERTON GOLF CLUB 17 Mar 20
Hi
Members,
Today`s
game was a single stableford event at Atherton Golf Club, there were
86 players today consisting of 69 men & 17 ladies. There were
five new members, Joe Cox from Atherton, Bruce Hunter from Millaa
Millaa, Junju Lee & Suki Jung from Cairns and John Queneau from
Bellconnen, welcome to the Vets and good golfing to you all.
The
course was in very good condition and the greens were as fast as
ever, congrats to the grounds staff. The weather was excellent except
for the final couple of holes however, most players finished just in
time. Many thanks to Cheryl, Irish & Bob for getting us going on
time as well as the refreshments provided throughout the day.
Our
sponsor today was BROTHERS LEAGUES CLUB, who have once again
backed up in 2020 to sponsor the FNQVGA, your sponsorship is much
appreciated and many thanks from our members.
It
is extremely important that all golfers adhere to the policies from
the “experts” regarding the Coronavirus, in particular, no
handshaking, no high 5s, no cuddling etc etc, basically no
transference of germs to others. We will be able to continue playing
golf by being responsible individuals and not letting our guard down
as we do our part in containing this horrific disease whilst the
world is in lockdown. I noticed many players today doing the elbow
jolt and fist pump after the game, lets keep it up people until
normality returns.
Advice
from Mareeba GC is that they will be holding the Mitsubishi Classic
this weekend, Sat 21 & Sun 22 March. Also the Mareeba Open is on
4 & 5th April so call the club to book your tee times
for both events.
Bob
Billingham will commence taking nominations and fees ($35 per head
incl cart) at our next Vets game in two weeks for the 9am shotgun
start at the Mirage GC on Fri 29 May, I advise you all to get in
early.
The
next Vets game will be a single stableford event at Cairns GC in two
weeks with a new sponsor Oak Tree Retirement Village, we will resume
our normal weekly games from then on as per the 2020 Program.
The
next and final Tableland Summer of Golf game for 2020 is at Atherton
GC next Tuesday at 0830.

Next game Atherton GC Tuesday 17 Mar 20
Morning Golfers,
The next FNQVGA game will be a single stableford game at Atherton GC on Tuesday 17 Mar 20 and our sponsor is Brothers Leagues Club. The course is in good condition and the potential cyclone should have no effect at all on the weather in our Region as all reports has it going out to sea.
There is a need to talk about the Coronavirus as this epidemic is extremely serious and we need to do our part to reduce the spread of this world affected virus. The experts say that no shaking hands after the game is one of many things to do as a preventative and as we are in the targeted age group we all should take heed of this and act in a responsible manner and do whatever we can to see the back of this virus.
Hope to see you all at Atherton Tuesday.

REPORT – HALF MOON BAY GOLF CLUB 03 Mar 20
Hi
Members,
Today`s
game was a 2 person Ambrose at HMBGC something a little different
from the norm, there was a great field of 115 players today
consisting of 89 men & 26 ladies. There were 8 new members, David
Manley, John English, Marion & Paul Wright all from HMBGC, Terry
Craven from Gordonvale GC, Lyn Small, Erina Williams & Nikki
Bruce from Cairns GC, welcome everyone to the Vets.
The
course was actually superb and the weather fantastic, many thanks to
Greg Ferry and his team for providing a great venue in tip top
condition as well as donating a slab of beer for our presentations.
The lucky winner was Celia Fox who told me she did not drink beer but
I did notice that she had made a lot of new friends by the time she
got to the car park.
Our
sponsor today was the REEF CASINO, who have come on board yet again in 2020 as one of our main sponsors, your sponsorship is much
appreciated by all of our members.
As
mentioned at presentations Bob Billingham will be accepting
nominations and fees ($35 per head) shortly for those intending to
play at the Mirage game on Friday 29 May, we will be a couple of
committee members down for this game so Bob will make it easier all
round by having player numbers in readiness prior to the game. Also
Liz Edmonds will commence taking orders for the FNQVGA shirts when
she has made contact with the supplier, please watch this space for
more news.
The
next Vets game will be a single stableford event at Atherton GC in
two weeks, for the newcomers, all Vets games are registration from
6.30 – 8.00 with first tee off at 0700 – 0830 ish.
