President Report & Results Millaa Millaa Tuesday 27 Jul 21

PRESIDENT REPORT –MILLAA MILLAA GOLF CLUB 27 Jul 21

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford event at Millaa Millaa Golf Club and there were 54 players consisting of 46 men & 8 ladies. There was one visitor, Lynne McCosker from St George, we also have five new members, Mal Armstrong from Millaa Milla, Stephen, Diane & Geoffrey Heather and Roger Whittaker all from Bundaberg, welcome to the Vets and I hope you enjoy your time with us.

The weather was very cold early on but as Don promised us the sun came out later and there was no rain at all another bonus was the course was in great condition Millaa obviously have a good crew of volunteers, well done to all. Thanks to Margaret for looking after us pre game and the same to Hughy post game, the pies were hot & tasty.

Our sponsor today was CAZALY`S AFL, a lot of our members visit their establishment on a regular basis and it is always a great place to drop in for a meal and sample their entertainment treats on offer.

Some good news this week as we (LOIS) have secured the services of BDO to audit our books on a honorary basis (freebie), we have been trying since Harvey Blanch moved to Brisbane, great work Lois and many thanks to Greg Mitchell from BDO for accommodating us at no charge.

More good news as we have received formal advice from HMBGC that the Vets can play there again in 2022 as long as the COVID situation does not worsen in our Region. The FNQVGA 2022 Program will include HMBGC as one of our venues as per pre-COVID utilising the two tee start.

For those interested, the 2021 Gordonvale Open is to be played Sat 14th & Sun 15th Aug, please contact the Gordonvale GC to obtain tee times.

Next week will be the final opportunity to purchase the FNQVGA golf shirts as Liz will be placing the order in a couple of weeks and that will be it for this year. Those that have already ordered the delivery time is approx 5-6 weeks after placement of the order.

Next weeks game will be a stroke event and is the 1st round of the FNQVGA, 2021 Championships at Mareeba GC and the sponsor is Golf World. For those not participating in the championships you are very welcome to play in the comp of the day and for members playing in the 2 rounds a reminder to advise Lois at Registration as payment for both games ($34) is required on day one. Lets fill Mareeba GC up next week and have a great time.

Presidents Report & Results from Mossman GC Tuesday 20 Jul 21

PRESIDENT REPORT –MOSSMAN GOLF CLUB 20 Jul 21

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford event at Mossman Golf Club and there were 74 players consisting of 58 men & 16 ladies. There were three visitors, Suzzanne Barker (Russ Gill`s sister) from Carrington Park Vic and Wendy & Mike Vidler from Rockhampton. We also have two new members, Greg Walker & Chris Hameister both from Mossman, welcome to the Vets gents.

The course was in fantastic shape as much effort was put in by the greens staff for the recent Mossman Open and the weather was the best winters day you could ever wish for. Surely the Far North is the envy of the rest of Australia.

Our sponsor today was the REEF CASINO, so if you are looking for somewhere to go for a good night out please drop in to the Casino “its a lovely place to play”.

Liz will be placing a shirt order in the next few weeks so if anyone wishes to purchase a FNQVGA golf shirt please see Liz or Jane as they have the necessary paperwork to order the shirts. Please note cash is required in advance.

Next weeks game will be a single stableford event at Millaa Milla Golf Club and the sponsor will be CAZALY`s AFL. I hope to see you all there.

Presidents Report & Results from Atherton GC Tuesday 13 Jul 21

PRESIDENT REPORT –ATHERTON GOLF CLUB 13 Jul 21

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford event at Atherton Golf Club and there were 79 players consisting of 68 men & 11 ladies, considering how bleak the morning was it was a very good rollup today. There was one visitor, Suzzanne Barker (Russ Gill`s sister) from Carrington Park Vic, welcome Sue and I hope you enjoyed the day.

I must say even though the weather ended up very ordinary the course was in tip top shape, obviously a lot of effort has gone into the maintenance of the course. Many thanks to Cheryl, Pup and Nikki for looking after the Vets throughout the day. For those that complained about the jokes being removed from the ablutions, new jokes are now firmly in place and they seem to be a good talking point within our members.

Our sponsor today was Stratford Painting Contractors, if anyone requires a paint job please give Gordon a call and he will look after you. SPC have a great reputation within the community for doing 1st class work on big and small projects alike.

We will be placing a shirt order in the next few weeks so if anyone wishes to purchase a FNQVGA golf shirt please see Liz or Jane as they have the necessary paperwork to order the shirts. Please note cash is required in advance.

Next weeks game will be a single stableford event back at Mossman Golf Club and the sponsor will be the REEF CASINO. I hope to see you all there.

Presidents Report & Results from Babinda GC Tuesday 6July 21

PRESIDENT REPORT –BABINDA GOLF CLUB 06 Jul 21

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford event at Babinda Golf Club and there were 59 players consisting of 48 men & 11 ladies. There were five new members, Warren & Jo Affleck (ex Millaa Millaa) from Mandalay Vic, David Heron from Mossman, Chris Hannam from Babinda and Noel Webster (ex Treasurer) from Cairns, great to see some old and new faces back at the Vets, enjoy your stay with us.

Many thanks to the volunteers who maintain the course as it was very green and lush. Also thanks to Bernadette, Gabrielle, Chris Hannam and the on-course drinks girls who kept the water up to us throughout the day. There was a meat tray raffle organised by Babinda GC and it was drawn today, unfortunately, I forgot to get the winners name but whoever won it I am sure they are happy.

One of our members lost his range finder somewhere on the course, it was not handed in but if anyone found it please call Tony on 0456778492.

Our sponsor today was GOLF WORLD (GW) once again a great sponsor to the Vets, please support GW when in need of anything golf.

Today was very special for me as I had been trying to present Wal Anthony with his 2019 Patron`s trophy for 18 months, unfortunately every time I tried poor old Wal`s illness got worse and we could never get our timing right. So today at his course Babinda, I finally presented his trophy from 2019 to his wife Bernadette & daughter Gabrielle with much love from the Vets as Wal was very special to us all. Bernadette displayed her appreciation in her acceptance speech with much love back to our members.

Next weeks game will be a single stableford event at Atherton Golf Club and the sponsor will be Stratford Painting Contractors, I hope to see you all there.
