PRESIDENT REPORT –MILLAA MILLAA GOLF CLUB 31 Aug 21

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford game at Millaa Millaa GC and there were 34 players consisting of 30 men & 4 ladies. We had one new member, Suzzanne Barker from Carrington Park Vic, Sue has decided to stay here for a while due to the COVID clusters in Vic at the moment, welcome Sue.

Well what can I say a very ugly day, so foggy at the start the first guys could not even guess where the green was let alone the pin. Then the rain started and stayed with us all day, the smarter players played 9 and went home to dry out but the more hardy (or not so smart) finished their game off in style even though they were drenched to the core.

Our sponsor was the REEF CASINO, if you feel the need drop in to the casino sometime to enjoy their hospitality and very nice meals. The Vets do appreciate their support.

Results for our recent championships should be posted next week as Russ is still calculating grade gross/nett  winners etc.

Next weeks game will be a single stableford event at Gordonvale Golf Club and the sponsor will be Brothers Leagues Club, hope to see you all there.

PRESIDENT REPORT –MOSSMAN GOLF CLUB 24 Aug 21

Hi Members,

Today`s game was the 2^nd and final round (stroke) of our 2021 Championships that we have been unable to play due to the COVID lockdown and restrictions imposed by the Qld Health Dept.

There were 89 players consisting of 72 men & 17 ladies. We had three visitors, Ian Coulson from Prospect Vale Tas, Peter Frazer from Ipswich and Sue Barker from Carrington Park returned for another game.

The course was in tip top shape and we were very fortunate as the kitchen was opened up today by new contractors as day one and by all reports were D for delicious. The clubhouse staff looked after us and the weather was another picture perfect day in the far north.

Our sponsor again was GOLF WORLD as they sponsored both rounds of the championships so please support Golf World and mention you are a “Vet” if you are purchasing golf equipment from their store as they are a great support to us.

There were a few disqualifications today as some members decided to play stableford, Liz always displays the game details on the whiteboard at each venue and I realise that the normal game would have been stableford except for the fact that we had to complete the championships which is obviously stroke. Some members also played off the white markers, we always play off the blue for men and red for ladies and if not, players will be notified of any change as they are given their cards & tee times.

Now for some great news, Ed Mackie holed out on the 10^th hole today for a magnificent hole-in-one, Ed also had a hole-in-one at Cairns just a couple of weeks ago, congratulations Ed your ball will be mounted and presented to you when the engraving has been completed.

Next week we are off to Millaa Millaa for a single stableford event and the sponsor will be the Reef Casino, hope to see you all there.

Mossman Tuesday 24 Aug 21

 Hi Members,

I am posting this message in anticipation that the COVID restrictions will be lifted Friday 20 Aug as advised by the Qld Premier. Please keep you ears to the ground and if anything changes prior I will amend the blog accordingly.

Since the lockdown and restrictions were imposed it has been very difficult to continue with the Program however, the game at Mossman next Tuesday will go ahead at normal times and we can finally complete the 2nd round of our championships. Noting the lifting of restrictions, we are permitted to play a stroke round and have NTPs as well so hopefully our golf will be back to normal commencing next week.

Atherton Cancelled Tuesday 17 Aug 21 due to COVID Rules

 Hi Members,

Today I have been advised by the Qld Golf Manager (Golf Aust) that we, Cairns Region should not travel outside our LGA to participate in a golf event due to the Health directions within COVID rules therefore the Atherton game has to be cancelled and we will resume the 2021 Program at Mossman on Tuesday 24 Aug 21 as the restrictions will be lifted Sunday 22 Aug 21.

Regret this very late advice but we need to be doing the right thing and most certainly do not want to get our members and Atherton GC in any breach of current restrictions imposed by the Gov.

Please spread the word.

Next Game Atherton Tuesday 17 Aug 21

 Hi Members,

Unfortunately due to the COVID lockdown we were unable to complete the 2nd round of the championships at Mareeba on Tuesday but fortunately the lockdown is over and we can now resume the 2021 Program and play Atherton GC next Tuesday 17th Aug.

The game is scheduled for a single stableford but we will be playing the 2nd round of the championships and the game will obviously be a stroke event. Therefore everyone who nominated and paid for the championships will be eligible to play at Atherton. For those members who did not nominate for the championships, you are most certainly welcome to play in the comp of the day.

There does not seem to be any COVID restrictions at Atherton perhaps because they are not included in the Cairns area. Having said that social distancing will still be required and perhaps masks to be worn inside the clubhouse just as a safety measure.

Cairns COVID Lockdown

 Hi Members,

As you all would know by now we are in lockdown from 4pm today for 3 days, therefore there will not be a game at Mareeba next Tuesday due to the COVID rules.

Please monitor this blog as I will update you all when further information is provided by the authorities. It will all depend on whether the lockdown is for the 3 day period only.

Stay safe and watch a bit of TV and talk to your husbands/wives for 3 days.

Presidents Report & Results Mareeba Tuesday 03 Aug 21

 PRESIDENT REPORT –MAREEBA GOLF CLUB 03 Aug 21

Hi Members,

Today`s game was the 1^st round of our 2021 Championships with the 2^nd and final round to be completed at Mareeba GC next Tuesday 10 Aug. The comp of the day today was a single stroke event and there were 87 players consisting of 74 men & 13 ladies. We had two new members rejoin today, Gordon & Kathleen Smith both from Tallarook GC Vic, welcome back to the Vets.

The course was great and thanks go out to the greens staff at Mareeba and many thanks to Gabi & Wendy for looking after us from 0630 onwards.

Our sponsor today was GOLF WORLD, please support Golf World and mention you are a “Vet” if you are purchasing golf equipment from their store as they are a great support to us.

The golf shirt orders were finalised today and Liz will be sending off the orders later on this week with an expected delivery date of 5-6 weeks.

This is a reminder to all players, please when completing your card mark the total gross, nett & stableford score at the top of the scorecard for a stroke event and the total stableford score for a stableford event so Russ doesn`t have to go through every card to get the total score for each player as this is very time consuming and you can all help to make his job easier when sorting out cards at the end of the day.

We are back at Mareeba next Tuesday for the 2^nd round of the Championship, those not entered for both rounds can most certainly attend and participate in the comp of the day, good golfing and see you at Mareeba.
