CHANGES IN THE FNQVGA COMMITTEE IN 2023

  Hi Members,

As you are probably aware, change can happen very quickly when one of the committee suffers a serious health problem as in the case of Robin Tonks. Fortunately we had a Vice President - Bill Matthews - who could step into the role.

We are writing to give you fair warning that at the end of 2022, 4 members of the committee will be retiring from their present roles. They are Liz and Peter Edmonds, Lois Tait and Russ Gill. We have served on the committee for 3 years or more. While we thoroughly enjoy our time on the committee, it is time to give others a go.

Therefore the committee for 2023 will look as follows:

 President:                  Bill Matthews

Vice President            Vacant

Captain                       Vacant

Vice Captain              Vacant

Secretary                    Vacant

Treasurer                    Bob Adams

Assistant Treasurer    Vacant

Committee members   Nil

As you can see, we need our members to seriously consider taking a role in the committee. We will still be active members of Veterans golf and willing to help those that volunteer.

FNQ Veterans golf is very valuable to our members as they get to play at different courses each week at a reasonable cost.  It is also important for golf clubs in the region because it provides extra revenue for them.

This blog is for your information and serious consideration. Please don't hesitate to discuss it with us.

Regards

Liz Edmonds

Secretary"s Report & Results - Mareeba Golf Club - Tuesday 10th May, 2022

SECRETARY"S REPORT & RESULTS - MAREEBA GOLF CLUB

Hi Members,

Today was supposed to be a 7.30 am shotgun start at Mareeba. . However after an extremely wet drive up the Kuranda  Range, it was obvious that we were not going to get many members make the trip. The
committee decided to play a regular game for those that arrived and postpone the 2nd game for Oak Tree Retirement Village.

We had 41 players  -  36 men and 5 ladies - and we played a Stableford round. Cazaly's sponsored today's round and we thank them for their continued support .

The course was dry and in excellent condition in every way. We also had amazing weather- no rain for the entire time we were on the course. A few heavy showers occurred after we were all finshed.
Once again we must thank Wendy for her help in providing coffee, food and supporting us in such a friendly way. We congratulate Michael and the ground staff on the presentation of the course.

Our next game is at Gordonvale next Tuesday and we are hoping to have the 2nd round of the Oak Tree Retirement Village event there. It is to be a 8.00am shotgun start (weather permitting). I will inform the members of any changes on the blog.
Regards
Liz

Secretary's Report and Results - Mareeba G.C . Tuesday 3rd May, 2022

SECRETARY"S REPORT AND RESULTS - MAREEBA GOLF CLUB

Hi Members,

This is my first effort writing the blog so please don't judge me too harshly.  Our beloved leader and President, Robin Tonks is not well and will be absent for a while.  Bill Matthews, vice President,  will be taking his place while he is away.

Today's game was a single Stableford event and we had 61 players - 51 men and 10 ladies. We welcomed one new member -:Anthony Wilson from Mareeba Golf Club.

Our Sponsor for today (and next week) was Oak Tree Retiremen Village who have very generously supported us for the last 2 years. Some of our members live in the village and highly recommend it. Our game next week is also at Mareeba and Glen Donovan (manager at Oak Tree)  will attend and present the prizes.

The weather was fine and mostly sunny in contrast to the Cairns region this morning. The course was in excellent condition but our scores today did not reflect this. Thank you to Michael (groundsman) and his volunteers /Thank you Wendy for looking after us all as usual - we are very grateful.

Our next game is a 7:30 Shotgun start at Mareeba so please be early.

Regards

Liz Edmonds
