Results Cairns Tuesday 28 November 2023

A shrill air-horn blast signaled the start of an 18 hole Stableford event to wind up the FNQVGA  golfing year, admittedly not as romantic as a shotgun retort, but more practical even for a shotgun start! 87 players (69 men and 18 ladies ) braved the heat and humidity, and some pretty good scores were recorded.

Thanks to Anton and his helpers in the Pro Shop for getting us away in buggies; to Jess, Tatiana and Jemima for quenching the thirst.

We were honorer to have with us today Dr Nathan Bridge from Chiropractic Works,  Tylan Davies from major sponsor Drummond Golf and Jan Siedle to present the Louis Siedle Memorial Trophy.

Our sponsor was Reef Casino.

We had one new member Mal Meadows from HMB. Welcome. And Ali Gibson just scraped in with 42 pts to win the ladies!!!

Thank you also to Daniel in the Pro Shop and the green staff who had the course in excellent conditions , especially the greens that were a pleasure to putt on.

It takes a committee of about 10 members to make the FNQVGA work each week and each year, and so far we only have 3 nomination for next year. So if you can see your way clear to put your hand up, ask for a nomination next week at Gordonvale.

Results Cairns Tuesday 31 October 2023

77 players (59 men and 18 ladies) enjoyed the warm but still pleasant conditions at the Cairns Golf Club this morning in playing  a 18 Hole Stableford competition sponsored by generous member Rich Michalski.  You may not know that Rich and his regular playing partner Keith Hillier were involved in a bingle at Gordonvale several weeks ago, when the buggy they were driving came into collision with a palm tree stump on the 13th fairway. Both players were propelled out of the buggy and came to rest  on the fairway. It was thought  that the only casualty at the time was Rich's putter, which was snapped in half during his ejection from the buggy.  Keith however , did receive some extensive bruising to his chest region and is having a few months off. Get well soon Keith! Under Rule 4.1a(1)/2 Rich was entitled to make strokes with the damaged club for the rest of the round without penalty.

A big thank you to the Cairns Club today for making us feel most welcome and we understand the challenge of scheduling course maintenance and keeping the course playable and open.
