TUESDAY 28 MAY OAK TREE RETIREMENT VILLAGE CAIRNS

FNQVGA played a n 18 Hole single Stableford in conjunction with the final round of the Oak Tree Cup. A shotgun start is great for the clubhouse camaraderie after the round but can be a bit stressful for the Vice Captain and helpers trying to organize the round. Thanks to all players for being so patient

.

We had 48 players today, an indication of the the unstable weather and how the likelihood of playing in the rain can discourage  people from participating.

We had one visitor today from Royal Hobart, Wayne Moriarty . Welcome!

Thanks to the green staff who continue to shoulder on in spite of very trying weather. To Chloe in the bar and her  "barista-in-training" who made me a very good lactose free flat white. Her first apparently! .And to Georgia and Josh in the Pro-shop.

Thanks to the sponsor of the day  Glen Donovan from Oak Tree Retirement Villages, who was heard to say he would be happy to sponsor next year as long as he doesn't have to play in the rain!

36 HOLE OAK TREE CUP FINAL RESULTS

The final round of the Oak Tree Cup was played in less than ideal conditions at the Cairns Golf Club this morning. Special thanks Glen Donovan from Oak Tree Retirement Village Cairns for his continued support of this competition.

The OTC is a 36 Hole Stableford Competition played  in Grades and deserves a good roll up. So for next year we are giving consideration to playing it a month later than this year to avoid bad weather.  Could we have some feedback please?

RESULTS HMB TUESDAY 21 MAY 2024

An autumnal calm has  settled over FNQVGA golfers as the dryer and cooler weather is presenting us with more inviting conditions to play golf. And as a result the size of fields has  gradually increased over the last three weeks. This morning 60 players traveled to Yorkey's Knob to play an 18 Hole Individual Stableford at the Half Moon Bay Golf Club for trophies generously sponsored by major sponsor Drummond Golf. Apart from the odd speck of mud on the balata, and the occasional green being a little sparse of green stuff ( well a lot actually in the case of the No 1 green) is was a pleasure to play on a course showing  early signs of decreased precipitation and increased sunshine.

Who would be a green-keeper? Well Grant would and we thank him and his team for the way the course was presented today.

Also thanks to Brady and Tanya as well as Kath and Todd for making the day so enjoyable.

Following a Captains Challenge concerning the results, as presented to players today, the matter of the trophy presentation was referred to the bunker for review. After reviewing all possible angles, and after due consideration, you will notice ( if you had stayed for presentations) that the prizes  as published below are slightly different from today's presentation results.

This is the third week that we have used the OneGolf system  for competition management, and it seems to be well accepted. But it is important to remember that all players are responsible for  scores being entered into the Kiosk computer at the Captains desk, or use the MiScore app to record your score as  you go.  That way we can prevent the situation where Garry Castle thought he was Runner Up in Div 2 Mens  when he was actually 3rd Runner up through absolutely no fault of his own!

Next week we play the second and final round of the Oak Tree Cup (36 Holes Comp) delayed from several weeks ago. There will be a shotgun start from 7.30 at Cairns Golf Club. Nominations from 6.30.

Invite a friend to play in the Daily Comp!

MOSSAMAN RESULTS TUESDAY 14 MAY 2024

FNQVGA golfers received some remedial therapy for the constant heavy fairways, inconsistent greens and that general saturation feeling experienced in the north from about December last year. 41 players (33 men and 8 ladies) traveled to Newell Beach this morning and played an 18 hole stableford competition on the Mossman Golf Club's composite course. And what a satisfying experience it was!

Thank you to Matt and his volunteers  who presented a course that has had almost 5 meters of rain on it this year, but was extremely playable. To Shayla and Pris in the pro shop for assistance with carts etc and Kim behind the bar. You made the day very memorable for all the right reasons.

We had one new member today, Colin Billingham from Mt Baker-Hahndorf in South Australia and Norm Lockwood returned from Mossman. Also a visitor Jim Pedrola from Cairns.

Our very generous sponsor was Hotel Reef Casino and remember - Chancers are you are about to lose!

MOSSMAN TUESDAY 14 MAY

This Tuesday the FNQVGA will play the Composite Course at the Mossman Golf Club in an 18 Hole Single Stableford Competition. Volunteers have worked hard this week to put the bunkers in play and golf carts are allowed on the course, thanks to some extent to the new concrete cart paths constructed last year.

Tee off from 7am

Sponsor Reef Hotel Casino.

Just a reminder that crocodiles on  the course should be treated as an immovable obstruction!

Results MAREEBA TUESDAY 7 MAY 2024: FNQVGA.1GOLF START UP.

A few things happened at the Mareeba Golf Club this morning. The Mareeba mantra of "300 sunny days" which had taken a serious hit to its credibility over the last 6 months burst back into glorious sunshine. And One Golf (fnqvga.1golf.com.au)  went live for the first time. It was a pity that only 40 players (33 men and 7 ladies) were able to take advantage of a beautifully prepared course. Thanks must go to the Greens team of Karl, Jim Rod and Enid for he presentation of the course. And to Owen, Debbie and Amelia for the welcome and clubhouse service.

A special thanks to generous sponsor Mark Davidson from Davidson Coaching for the day.

Due to the contracted field there was only one mens division today.

CHANGE OF VENUE. TUESDAY 7 MAY NOW IN MAREEBA

Due to the continued inclement weather and the lack of sunshine, Atherton Golf Club have suggested that we move this Tuesday's 7 May round to Mareeba Golf Club who have graciously taken up the offer.

The committee, after consulting the relevant Policy 009,  has therefore made the decision  to move this Tuesday's Davidson Coaching sponsored round to Mareeba.  The Mareeba course is in excellent condition.

Tee off from 7am. Nominations as usual, with your name and Golflink number on your card. The match committee will enter your handicap on your card.

Green Fee $20

Golf Carts: If you had a cart booked for Atherton,  that booking has been transferred to Mareeba. So if you no longer require a cart you  will have to ring Mareeba to cancel it. If you require a cart please ring Mareeba on 40921528 to make a booking.

Your committee has made the decision to use the services of 1Golf for the management of our competitions. This is used by most clubs with the exception of HMB. Each member of the FNQVGA now has a unique FNQVGA membership number which you will log on to the FNQ Veteran Golfers Association 1Golf website at fnqvga.1golf.com.au

If you  use  MiScore you may use your app to enter you round into One Golf.  You will need to add a Club- FNQ Veteran Golfers Association.

You will need your membership number and your password. This will be available on Tuesday or if you are the urgent type email a request to fngvga@outlook.com and it will be sent to you.

RECORDING YOUR SCORE.

If you do not use the MiScore app, you can record your score on the Kiosk computer on the Captains desk.  To do this hit "Score Entry" then your Name or Golflink No. or FNQVGA number, and record your score on each hole. If you picked up on a hole use the "P" to record that hole. Then if you agree with the score ( and remember the computer is always right)  then hit "Finish" Once you have confirmed your score, then and only then write your score on the board.

If you have any problems ask for help and someone will show you.

Otherwise see you in Mareeba on Tuesday.
