MAREEBA RESULTS TUESDAY 27TH AUGUST

Yesterday a magnificent day greeted 50 male and 11 lady players at the Mareeba GC where the FNQ Vets played a Single Stableford to decide the 12th Round of the Consistency Series. The Round was sponsored by Drummond Cairns, with thanks to Darren and his team.

With just 2 rounds in the Series left to play, the competition is hotting up for the player who ends up with the highest aggregate Stableford points over their best 10 rounds in the Series for 2024. All will be revealed at the Christmas break up/trophy presentation on Tuesday 26th November.

We would like to thank Gabi, who sorted us out and got us going early and Amelia who made sure we were fed and watered at plays end. Also thanks to Carl and all the course volunteers who have Mareeba GC playing fast but fair.  The greens are as good as any in the Far North.  It is always a pleasure to visit our friends on the Tablelands and experience their great hospitality.

Yesterday we said farewell to Tom & Marg Finch and Phillip Smith who are all heading back south to the cooler climate. Safe journeys and we look forward to seeing you all back in 2025.

On a sadder note, the FNQ Vets lost one of its favourite members with the recent passing of John Gregan. John will be sadly missed at our Tuesday rounds and on behalf of the FNQVGA we send our condolences to John's family.

Pete Wyatt conducted the presentations for the day before hitching up his rig and heading off into the Savannah country and then the far beyond. Stay safe Pete and enjoy your travels.

CAIRNS RESULTS TUESDAY 20TH AUGUST

As mentioned in the last Blog our media mogul Ron Blake is off swanning on a Rhine River cruise through the lands of Europe then onto Ireland. He left the Blog write to your President and his trusty offsider his wife Linda for the next few weeks. Thanks Linda.

Today at Cairns GC yours truly was misguided by the weather gurus, stating a slight early mizzle - clearing. Instead the mizzle turned to showers. Sorry about that!

Anyway although it was a damp morning the course stood up very well and was in great condition. Thanks to David and all the greens staff, thanks also to Chloe and the staff in the Clubhouse and the Pro Shop staff for getting us underway with carts etc. While handing out thank you's I would like to thank Colin Johannson and Pete Walters for helping out at the Captains Table while the Committee are a bit thin on the ground.

Today we played a Single Stableford sponsored by The Reef Hotel Casino with 62 players (50 men and 12 ladies). Given the conditions we would like to thank all those brave souls who turned up and must say that the scores returned were outstanding.

We had a visit from Jeff Cruickshank who is the President of the Queensland Golf Union and Vice Pres of the Australian Veterans Golf Union (AVGU). It was nice for the members to meet Jeff and to make him welcome, he is planning to move to Cairns from Toowoomba and soon will be a member of our FNQVGA.  We also had Jeff present the prizes to today's winners which was well received.
