Athereton Tuesday 14 March 2023

An intimate field of 38 keen golfers (32 men and 6 ladies) traveled to the beautiful Atherton Golf Club  this morning to play a Single Stableford sponsored by Brothers Leagues Club. Apart from a few boggy patches which were heavy under foot,  the course was presented in excellent condition. The greens were receptive and very puttable. Congratulation to the greens team of Karl, Stevie and your team on the way you present your course, you obviously take great pride in your work.

A special thanks to Irish Hazlett who kept us informed with up to the minute weather reports, to Cheryl and Rachael (who informs me she is a Galway girl) for their friendly service behind the bar, especially the Corned Beef sandwiches!

We had a new member join us today , Neal Arnott from Cairns , welcome Neal.

SUMMER OF GOLF 2023 MAREEBA 6 MARCH CANCELLED

Mareeba Golf Course has had 90mm overnight and it is raining as I write this log. So play tomorrow is cancelled.

The last time we had this much rain Black Bream were seen migrating up the drains from the Barron River  and spawning in the  pond between the 3rd and 4th Holes!

VETS TOMORROW HAS. BEEN CANCELLED.

 Hi all,

VETS TOMORROW HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

HMB is open today, but dry nine only. There is no possibility of the full course being open tomorrow, so it will be dry nine only, and HMB would only be able to accommodate us if we could guarantee a field of 48 or less. Any more than that and we could not clear the first tee before the tee time for groups who have already booked for the local comp after us. So as I didn’t want us to be turning players away, which would be likely if the weather conditions remain as they are now, I had to agree to cancel our event for tomorrow.

HOWEVER, I’ve managed to negotiate a deal for any vet who does want to play tomorrow. $20 for a social 18 holes or $23 to play in the local comp, and carts still at the members rate $32.

BUT they will have to contact the club to book a time and cart.

So at least any of our members who would still like to play tomorrow can get a game despite the amount of rain we’ve had!

Cheers,

Captain Pete.
