Next Game Half Moon Bay GC 1st May

All,

Our next game is at Half Moon Bay on Tuesday, May Day, but there will be no dancing round the Maypole or marches, just some honest golf.

The course is in good condition & although the greens may still have some sand on them they will have been mown on Monday or the morning we play.

The club has a new caterer & menu to tempt you at the half way point & after the game:

Bacon and Egg Roll $7
Burger $6
Chips $3
Fish and Chips $10
Sandwiches $5
Muffins $4

Look forward to seeing you there.

President's Message & Results 24th April - Atherton Golf Club

President's Report &
Results of the Single Stableford Competition
Played on 24th April 2012
at Atherton Golf Club
86 Players

President's Report

A beautiful sunny day with a pleasantly cool breeze rewarded those who turned up at Atherton golf club for our weekly game. Congratulations to the greens staff for the presentation of the course.

The weather seems to be settling down at last, although the forecast is for some more rain coming in at the weekend, however that is unlikely to affect the Mareeba Open as it rarely rains at Mareeba according to our (unbiassed?) Treasurer! If anyone is hoping for a last minute inclusion in the Open, forget it, as it is fully booked with a waiting list & the draw has been completed.

Thanks to Debbie & Owen for the welcoming tea, coffee, raisin bread and sandwiches which went down well as usual. Thanks also to the club for sponsoring the event.

Welcome to our new member, Darryl King of Atherton. Our membership stands at 226 for the 2012 year.

Our next game is at Half Moon Bay on 1st May. The Consistency event that was cancelled on 20th March has been transferred so you won't miss out. Greg Ferry also informs me that the caterer has changed & there is a new menu to tempt you.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Next Game Atherton GC 24th April

All,

Atherton are expecting us for our game tomorrow & report no problems with the course.

There are signs at the foot of the Gillies range to expect delays, so take care if you are coming up that way & allow a bit of extra time.

Look forward to seeing you there.

President's Message & Results 17th April Mareeba GC

President's Report &
Results of the Single Stableford Competition
Played on 17th April 2012
at Mareeba Golf Club
67 Players

President's Report

The continuing rain on the coast necessitated a change of venue from Cairns to Mareeba at short notice. Unfortunately, the change led to a disappointingly small field with only 55 men & 12 ladies, so there were only two divisions.

Thank you Mareeba for fitting us in 10 days before your Open, with all the preparation going on for it. Congratulations to the Greenkeeper & all the volunteers who maintain the course. It was in the best condition of any we have played this year so far.

Thanks to Kevin & Shirley for the welcoming tea, coffee & raisin bread as well as the sandwiches & hot snacks.

Welcome to visitorCharlie Kadic of Mossman. Our membership stands at 226 for the 2012 year.

Congratulations to Tom Stager on winning the first prize in our raffle and Graham Fisher for taking out the second prize.

Our next game is at Atherton on 24th April.

Look forward to seeing you there.

By the way, I was going to put in a plug for the Mareeba Open, but have been informed that all 190 spots are taken & there is a waiting list.

Cairns Game 17th April Moved to Mareeba

All,
I have just had a call from Cairns GC Manager.

The greenkeeper had advised him it was very wet out the back & the Asst Pro confirmed there was a lot of water on the course.

Meanwhile, our Treasurer phoned to advise that quite a few Cairns members had played at Mareeba last Sat & the course there had not received much rain since & was quite playable.  I've spoken to the club who confirmed they are prepared to host us if we wish to play there.

Accordingly, the game tomorrow has been moved to Mareeba.

Sorry for the short notice, but I'm sure you would rather have the chance of a game than have it totally cancelled.

Also, the game which was to have been at Mareeba on 8th May will now be played at Cairns, so please adjust your programs accordingly.

Regards, Louis

President's Message & Results 10th April Mossman GC

President's Report &
Results of the Single Stableford Competition
Played on 10th April 2012 at Mossman Golf Club
87 Players

President's Report

More fine weather resulted in a good turnout of 87 – 70 men including 1 visitor & 17 ladies.

I apologise for misinformation on the blog, as I had received information that the course was in good condition, but not that there were quite a few temporary greens. Whilst the fairways & rough were fine, the greens varied considerably in speed and preparation, but everyone had to face the same conditions & a visitor showed how it should be done by winning the Div 1 & putting his second shot in on a par 4!

Thanks to the bar staff for the sandwiches & hot snacks, which were well received as they almost all vanished.

Welcome to visitor Theodore Sheppard of McLean, NSW, who managed to win Div 1 & eagle a par 4 & to our new member John McMahon of Atherton, who managed runner up in Div 2. Our membership stands at 225 for the 2012 year.

Our next game is at Cairns on 17th April. Look forward to seeing you all there.
