President's Report

A beautiful cool morning warmed up to a clear day with a light breeze for the best field we have had at Atherton for a couple of years of 96 men & 18 ladies.

The course was in fine condition in preparation for their other major comps coming up soon, although some thought the greens a bit slow. Well done the greens staff.

Thank you Debbie & Owen for the great sandwiches & keeping up with the drinks. Thanks also to Golf World for sponsoring the event.

Welcome to visitors Charlie Langham of Wauchope, Peter Buckman of Yallourn, Di van Eldik of Mackay, John Percival of Denmark, Bob Brown of Gympie, Graeme & Pamela Atkinson of Millaa Millaa & to new members Deb Duffy & William Matthews of Cairns & Gordon O'Neill of Headland. Our membership for the year to date stands at 278.

Our next game is a single stableford at Half Moon Bay sponsored by Brothers Leagues Club.

Then on 1st & 2nd July we have our Open at Cairns for which you have to nominate (even if you only want to play one day), as times will be allocated by draw. Forms are on this blog (just use the search box at the top right) & can be obtained from June at registration.  Also, if you want to play with a particular person(s) on either of those days, please note that on your nomination form.

Folks, we have been getting some people who turn up, fill in a card & pay, then say they want to play with another person or couple who have not yet arrived. If that is the case, PLEASE DO NOT PRESENT YOUR CARDS AT REGISTRATION UNTIL THE OTHER PERSON/COUPLE ARE THERE TOO, otherwise it causes confusion to committee members who are kept busy trying to match people up in groups. The person sorting the cards then has to find another match & the one on the board has to scrub out & re-enter groups, which makes both of them grumpy!

Captain Greg also makes the point that if you have a query about your score or not seeing your name for a game on Golflink, please contact him within 7 days, or your card will have been destroyed.

Next Game Atherton 18 Jun

All,

Our game next Tuesday is at Atherton, sponsored by Drummond Golf.  It is a single stableford Consistency trophy event.

I'm advised the course is in good condition with no surprises in store other than the usual hazards, which of course we don't go in.

See you there.

President's Report & Results Gordonvale 11 Jun

President's Report & Results
of the Fourball Aggregate Stableford Competition
Played on 11th June 2013
at Gordonvale Golf Club
92 Players

President's Report

The sound of raindrops on rooftops must have made some decide to turn over & go back to sleep today, which was their loss as the day cleared up before play began, so the 73 men & 19 ladies enjoyed a pleasant round playing one of the 5 different types of competitions which were planned this year to break up continuous stableford & stroke rounds.

The course was in far better condition than the last time we played at Gordonvale, with greens running true, fairways mown & rough a reasonable length, although the continuing damp weather meant that the run we expect at this time of year has not eventuated, so it is still playing quite long & with water in the drains. Thanks to the greens staff & volunteers for a great effort.

Thank you Kim & the bar staff for looking after us with sandwiches & keeping the drinks coming. Thanks also to Drummond Golf for sponsoring the event & for their rep Katrin Nash for playing & staying to present the prizes.

Welcome back to Carol Howard of Millaa Millaa & to visitors Charlie Langham of Wauchope, NSW, & Ross Ellen for driving his father there & staying to play

Our next game is a single stableford at Atherton sponsored by Golf World.

Next Game Gordonvale 11 Jun

All,

Our game next Tuesday is at Gordonvale & I'm told the greens will be mowed this time!  There is an ongoing  concerted effort to mow fairways & rough too, however the drains will still have some water in them & will not have been slashed, so don't go in them.

The game is a 4B Aggregate Stableford - virtually the same as a single stableford, but you just add your scores together for a result.

See you there.

A good field of 107 men & 16 ladies turned up to a course in fine condition with all new greens in play. Congratulations to the greens staff & thanks to Danny Bradley for mowing the greens early in the morning for us. The forecast showers didn't eventuate & there was a pleasantly cool breeze which picked up later, however.

Thank you Raelene for looking after us with sandwiches & pies & also running the bar. Also to Col for seeing to the prizes & Kevin for helping the setting up for the day & to Mitre 10 Mareeba, our sponsor for the day.

Welcome to new member Peter Riches of Mareeba & to visitors Alan Cleaver of Wauchope, Gary Mastyn of Newcastle, NSW, Colin Hands of Wundowie & John Percival of Denmark, WA.

Our next game is a 4Ball Aggregate stableford at Gordonvale. You've plenty of time to check out how it's played if you don't already know!
