President's Message 26th April 2011

Veteran Golfers

Thank you to the 72 golfers who played at Atherton Golf Club today.

Thank you to Atherton G.C. for the course preparation, there was quite a lot of run on the course, you wouldn’t believe it could dry out so quickly. The greens were very slick, very hard keeping some putts on the green. The course was in excellent playing condition.

FNQ Veteran Golfers Assoc. sponsored the event.

Roger Smith will be working on the scores for the Drummond Taylor Made Driver, as soon as they are available,  I will email them also  they will go on the blog site.

As I mentioned in yesterdays email, results and messages might be a little slow getting on the blog site for a few weeks, in the meantime I will also send the results by email.

Next week Tuesday 3rd May is at Half Moon Bay Golf Club, it will be a Single Stableford followed by Mareeba Golf Club on the 10th May 2011

Regards
Ross Bird

President's Message 19th April 2011

The Cairns Golf Club prepared a long and difficult course for us today. It was quite a challenge. What a difference a week of fine weather does. Thank you Cairns for preparing the course for us.

Thank you to Golf World, Mulgrave Rd Cairns for sponsoring todays event, and their ongoing support of the Veteran Golfers Association

Thank you to the  131 players who enjoyed the playing conditions. Of the 131 players, 27 players were women, which, I am told is a record or close to a record number of women in a weekly event. Now that Women players 50 and over are full members of the Veteran Golfers Association it is good to see the number of women taking the opportunity.

I apologise for the change in the results as announced at the Presentation, when we are in a hurry to have the results ready sometimes there is a small  glitch, but it was picked up before general publication.

Next weeks game is at Atherton Golf Club on Tuesday 26th April, it is a Single Stableford and is sponsored by FNQ Veteran Golfers Association. Following that game on the 3rd May is Half Moon Bay Golf Club.

Good Golfing

Regards
Ross Bird

President's Message 12th April 2011

Mossman Golf Club really gave us a very well presented course with beautiful weather as a bonus. I know a lot of work was performed yesterday so we could play the 18 hole course today. The course was dry in 98% of the area, the greens (some new) were in great condition. Thank you Mossman Golf Club.

70 players played a Single Stableford sponsored by FNQ Veteran Golfers Association. There were some very good scores as you will see by the results sheet.

This was the second round of the Drummond Golf Taylormade Driver competition.  There are still 7 games for you to get involved.

Next weeks game on Tuesday 19th April  is at Cairns Golf Club and sponsored by Golf World, Cairns, followed by Tuesday 26th April at Atherton Golf Club, sponsored by FNQ Veteran Golfers Assoc.

The game at Atherton is on a Public Holiday.  Thank you Atherton Golf Club for agreeing to take this event, I am sure we will get a good number of players on that day (as most us are on public holidays every day).

Regards
Ross Bird

President's Message 5th April 2011

Veteran Golfers

Mareeba Golf Club presented us with a excellent groomed course for our Single Stableford Event.

The event was sponsored by TGT Hardware, Mareeba, thank you for your continued sponsorship.

54 players paid attention to the often talked about subject that “It doesn’t rain in Mareeba”. Early golfers from the coast were caught up in traffic caused by a tree falling across the road on Kuranda Range. Cars were allowed through because they could fit under the fallen tree. But to add to the woes there was some heavy rain at the time.

Mareeba stayed true to its word with just a very light misty shower.

Today was the first round of the 9 rounds of Golf for the Drummond  Taylormade Burner Superfast 2.0 Driver.  A leader ladder will start to be published after the 3rdRound. Remember every game until the 31st May 2011 is included in this competition, you must play at least 6 games, the winner is the best aggregate score over six of the nine games

The wet weather is continuing to cause each weekly game to be managed. Next week 12th April we are scheduled to play at Mossman Golf Club. I am speaking with the officials from the Club, they are predicting we may be playing a composite 9 hole course, which we will play twice. It is rated so the players can be handicapped. I will keep you informed by email and the blog when we hear the final decision. Please don’t be put off because it may be a composite course, come up and enjoy what is presented to us.

Ross Bird

Mareeba Game 5th April

Veteran Golfers

I have been speaking with the people at Mareeba Golf Club this morning, the report is the course is in great condition, have only had about 4mm early Saturday and is not raining there this morning.

The staff have slashed the drains to improve finding balls and water run off.

The event is a Single Stableford and sponsored by TGT Hardware, who, we  thank for their continued support.

Hope to see you at Mareeba tomorrow.

Ross Bird
