President's
Report
The second round of our
second Open started off with a light drizzle, but not enough to put
off a large field & just enough to slow the greens down a little.
Conditions seemed to be conducive to better scoring as Ross White
had an eagle on the 10th & Kerry Gallagher a hole in
one on the 8th. Well done.
Thank you to the caterers
for providing the fish & chips & lasagne & salad for all
competitors. The meals were excellent & well received. The bar
staff all did well to keep up with a crowd of thirsty patrons after
the game – thanks to them too.
Thanks also to the Cairns
Pro Shop & Brett Wilson, who sponsored the Nearest the Pin shots
on all par 3 holes. Thanks to our regular supporter, Savannah
Lifestyle Resorts, who sponsored the day & the overall
competition. Melody gave us a brief update on developments in the
Mareeba complex & invited all who were interested to drop in &
see for themseves what was on offer. Your support is greatly
appreciated.
I don't intend to run
through all the visitor's clubs, suffice to say we had
representatives from WA, Vic, NSW & NT in addition to those from
clubs ranging from Ipswich to Bargara in Queensland. We hope you had
an enjoyable competition, will stay & join in our regular games
until you head for home & will return to play in next year's
Open.
The Open went smoothly &
in a very amicable atmosphere. The first was due to lots of hard
work put in by the committee for which they richly deserve thanks &
congratulations for a job well done. The second was no doubt due to
the first & also to some very pleasant weather over the two days
which helped keep tempers from becoming too frayed, since if the golf
wasn't up to expectations, it was a pleasant walk!
Our
game next Tuesday is at Mossman.
Look forward to seeing
you there.
