President's
Report
The first round of our
second Open had perfect weather & was played on a course that had
just completed its Championships, so was in excellent condition. The
Greenkeeper, Brendan, had moved the tees forward a bit & placed
the flags for us in more accessible positions, but the course was
still a test.
A big thank you to the
caterers for providing the nibblies for each group on the completion
of the round. Tomorrow a meal will be provided & you have been
issued with tickets for the relevant choice you made. Please don't
loose these, as you will be required to produce them to gain the
meal. Without them you will have to pay $10 again!
Thanks also to the Cairns
Pro Shop & Brett Wilson, who sponsored the Nearest the Pins shots
on all par 3 holes & called starters to the tees, & to Golf
World who sponsored the day. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Welcome to our 28
visitors from far & near. I do not have space to include all
names, but they came from Bargara, Ballina, Belmont, Box Hill,
Caboolture, Caloundra, Charlestown, Geelong, Gympie, Hervey Bay,
Horton Park, Howlong, Mandurah, Nambour, Parap, Proserpine, Rosewood,
Serpentine (WA) & Yallourn. I have not included our immediate
past President, Ross Bird in that list, although he came up from Port
Macquarie for the event, because he remains a member. He no doubt
enjoyed the day the more for being able to just roll up & play
without any of the associated organisation involved.
Last year's Open was our
first & attracted 88 entrants, & was obviously popular in
view of such a large increase this year. Naturally, that also places
an increased burden on our committee & I thank them for their
cheerful acceptance of the various tasks they were volunteered for!
Our next game is the
second round of the Open tomorrow at Cairns golf club.
The times remain the
same, but you will tee off the opposite tee, ie if you started off
the first tee today, you will start off the tenth tomorrow.
Any of our members who have not registered for the Open & wish to play are welcome to register as usual, but the cost will be $15 for the day & you will not get a start before 9 am unless there are cancellations.
Look forward to seeing
you there.
