President's Report

110 men & 18 ladies turned up at Half Moon Bay to a course in excellent condition after their Schweppes Classic comp at the weekend & perfect weather. A comment was passed at registration that the greens staff were just rolling the greens, so be prepared for them being fast & so they were!  However, they were true & the only problem was deciding how to approach them, as when it hit, the ball just kept on rolling. Congratulations to the greens staff who were out pruning, working on new cart paths & on the causeway which will form the new 3rd.

Thanks to the caterers for looking after us well as usual. The hamburgers were obviously popular as they ran out, but we have a promise that enough rolls will be on hand for our next game there. Thanks also to Brothers Leagues Club for sponsoring the event.

Commiserations to Gordon Thomas whose remote controlled buggy decided it would like to embrace his love of cruising & took off into the creek on the 13th when he took his eye off it for a moment. As it wasn't designed to float it will not doubt be consigned to the sinbin for a suitable period for refurbishment & until it learns manners!

Next game is at Mareeba on 6 August, which is the first round of our Championships & therefore a stroke round - no more easy stableford games for a couple of weeks.

Next Game Half Moon Bay 30 Jul

Our game next Tuesday is at Half Moon Bay & will be a single stableford Consistency event sponsored by Brothers Leagues Club.

The course is hosting their Schweppes Classic this weekend, so should be in prime condition for us on Tuesday.

They are also constructing cart paths, so there will be an area roped off where this is occurring, but it should not affect us.

PS  I am arranging for some defibrillator training with St John Ambulance & we currently have a number of committee members who will be going, but if anyone would like to be included in that, please contact me on 40453832.  We have to provide a range of days that suit us, so they can fit us in with their schedule, so please also provide me with a couple of preferred days.

Despite a forecast of showers, 69 men & 18 ladies turned up at Atherton to play & were rewarded with a fine day with a cool wind. The course was in good condition, particularly considering the recent rain & the greens quite slow, which suited some of us! Well done the greens staff.

Our game next Tuesday is at Atherton & I'm advised the course is not particularly affected by the rain we've been having, but I expect it will be a bit cool, so come prepared!

The comp is a single stableford counting towards the Ted Thomasson trophy & is sponsored by Drummond Golf.  Katrin has advised she will be attending & playing, so will be available for any questions you may have for her.

After some depressing wet winter weather over the last few days, 77 men & 23 ladies turned up at Gordonvale to play & found a day that offered some sun at last. The course was in good condition, with the greens newly mown & rough well under control. Thanks Shep, Bob & other volunteers.
