Vets Nationals at Gold Coast Accommodation
Gold
Coast 15-20 October 2017
Accommodation
report from Bob Billingham
As
you are aware I have volunteered to research and book accommodation
for the FNQ vets travelling to this event. I have made initial
enquiries with golfers to get an idea of numbers interested and from
these enquiries I have guesstimated 15-20 with some couples and some
singles.
In
view of these numbers I have put a block on 5 x 2 Bedroom apartments,
book in 15th
Oct and out 21st
Oct., at the Pacific Resort Broadbeach. These apartments have 1 x
Queen bed and 2 x single beds. The cost per aoartment is $140.00 per
night. This is the link to there web page
http://www.pacificresort.com.au if you wish to have a look. They
require payment of $200.00 per room by 15 August to lock the booking
in so deposit money? (to be advised) will be required before this
date.
Please
confirm your booking with me and your room requirements be it queen
(for couples) or single (share) my email address is
bobb2150@gmail.com.

Also, Savannah have their last Open Day on Sat 10 Dec from 10-4. However, the office will be open until lunchtime on Friday 23rd and Friday 30th December, and for limited hours on 28th and 29th December (give the office a call before driving up for a visit).

President's Report & Results Cairns 6 Dec
Today was our final game for the 2016
season and as is our custom we had a rather early shotgun start
followed by a Christmas lunch, with 106 players showing up. We invited all of our sponsors to join
us today but I suppose that it is midweek after all and many could
not get away from their work.
We were fortunate, however, to have Bill Kennedy of Kennedys Home
Improvement, Scott Payne from Health and Fitness Solutions as well as
our sponsor for the day Deborah Duffy of DEBORAH DUFFY ESTATE
AGENT. Deb has been one of our
major sponsors for the past year and I am pleased to say that she has
come onboard again next year.
For those of you
who are addicted to Tuesday golf, don't despair, the Tableland Summer
of Golf start their first event next Tuesday at Atherton and the full
program will appear on this blog later in the week.

Next Game Cairns 6 Dec
All,
Just a reminder that our next game is at Cairns tomorrow.
This is our annual breakup golf and lunch at Cairns Golf Club, the cost is $20 inclusive of the normal comp fee, with the remainder being paid by the association so don't miss this one.
The game is a 2 ball ambrose and is a 7.30 SHOTGUN START so all players will need to register BEFORE 7 AM so we can get you all to your respective tees in time for the start. Also, please inform the Treasurer if you are on a buggy so the poor foot soldiers can have the nearer tees.
It is the final game of our season & we have our Xmas breakup lunch after it, which will be attended by a number of our sponsors, so please stay, enjoy some Xmas cheer & have a chat with them.
The meal will be fresh local prawns on ice with lemon & seafood sauce, ham & turkey, with coleslaw, garden salad & fresh bread rolls & butter, followed by sticky prune pudding with brandy custard for dessert.
See you there.

Presidents Report and Results. Atherton 22 Nov.
60 men and 14 women enjoyed a beautiful sunny day at Atherton with a refreshing breeze to keep the golfers cool.
The sponsor today was FIG TREE HEALTH of Atherton and we thank them very much for the Golf World vouchers that were presented to the winners and runners up.
During the week our treasurer John received a cheque for $170 from Bendigo Bank. this comes about because we are a non profit organisation banking with them and we also would get that amount increased if our members who bank with the Bendigo simply nominate FNQ vets as their club of choice, with no cost to the individual. So if you bank at the Bendigo or are considering changing banks please help your club if you can.
Please remember that next Tuesday is our annual general meeting at 8 am sharp at Gordonvale so please register to play golf well before this time. Our meetings rarely take very long and the shotgun start is at 8.30 am. The event is a 4 ball better ball stableford so if you can organise your partner it will save time.
The following Tuesday is our final day of the year and also our Christmas lunch. Our committee have decided to use some of the reserve money and make the day considerably cheaper for all those participating. The quote for the dinner is not final yet but I think members will only be charged around $20 for golf and lunch.

Presidents Report & Results HMB 15th Nov.
Todays event was a single stableford at Half Moon Bay and we had a field of 70 men and 16 ladies. The weather was kind to us but has served notice that summer is well on the way. We welcomed visitor Ross Norman from Mollymook NSW and I hope he enjoyed his day at "vets".
The sponsors today were BROTHERS LEAGUES CLUB and KENNEDYS BETTER HOME LIVING. We did this because the vouchers donated to us by Brothers almost a year ago are almost expired. Winners please check your voucher and use it before the date on the back. Any winners who are not going to Atherton next week will need to contact me on 0407341125 to collect their prize.
As I am sure most of you know, Half Moon Bay club have been donating a box of beer to be raffled with free entry to those at presentations. the winner today was Greg Gibb, who proudly claimed his prize amid cries of "redraw, redraw". thanks HMB for adding that little extra to our day.

PRESIDENTS REPORT AND RESULTS 8th NOVEMBER.
Todays game was a single stableford at the Gordonvale Golf Club and the field of 54 men and 14 women was reasonable considering many of our members are in Adelaide competing in the veterans national championships. We wish these players good luck and hope to see trophies on their return.
The sponsor today was CAZALY'S AFL CLUB and the winners and runners up have venue vouchers to spend on drinks, meals or entertainment.
Today we welcome new member Heather Forster from Half Moon Bay as well as two visitors, Cheryl Scown and Barbara Stedman, both from Pioneer Valley.
I must also take this opportunity to congratulate the Gordonvale Club on the condition of their course. Although the fairways are quite dry, the greens are the best they have been for some time.

President's Report & Results Mareeba 31 Oct
Today we played a single stableford
event at Mareeba. We scheduled the game on a Monday because of the
pseudo holiday that seems to be observed for Melbourne Cup. Only 53
men and 7women played so one wonders if we should not just ignore a
horse race that is 3000 kilometers away in future, I welcome members
feedback on this!
The sponsor today was DRUMMOND GOLF
of Cairns and we thank them
again for the support given to our club.
Many of you may
have heard that Ian Schofield had his car windscreen broken by a rock
from a mower on the railway line last week. That went well for Ian
when Queensland Rail came good with the cost of a new windscreen,
however, today he was a little less fortunate when a ball he played
disappeared into a kangaroos pouch. It seems that the approaching
ball alarmed the joey and as he made a dive for the safety of mums
pouch the ball went in too. The ball was not recoverable and the
lousy roo did not even offer to reimburse poor Ian for the ball!
After a little
research I found that rule 19-1a applies and the roo is an outside
agency and a ball must be dropped directly under the spot where the
ball disappeared into the pouch with no penalty to Ian ( but I am not
so sure about the mother and joey).

the rest of the field. With 400 points offering for 1st
place in the final round, there is a mathematical chance Lily can
overhaul Betty Lou. Lily would have to win outright and Betty Lou
get less than 83.5 points for this to happen. Good luck, ladies.
The Men's Division
is a much closer race with Robin Tonks (2348.12), John Everall
(2227.64) and Lou Siedle (2174.29) battling for the trophy. If Lou
were to have a solo win and receive the maximum 400 points he would
have a mathematical chance of claiming the trophy providing Robin and
John don't score any major points. Whilst not counting Lou out,
realistically Robin and John appear to have the front running.
Should be a good battle. Good luck to all.
I will be away next
week playing golf down the Murray River but I will make every
endeavour to process the results and get them to Lou for publication
on the Blog as soon as possible after the last round.

President's Report & Results Atherton 18 Oct
(Apologies for these late results, but the Pres' internet access is out at present.)
Our event today was played at Atherton Golf Club on a beautiful sunny day. The course is in excellent condition with the fairways starting to dry a little. The greens however, were lightning fast with any down hill putt a test of nerves (your correspondent 5 putted on one green with the fifth being around 8 feet in length).
There were 61 men and 6 women who entered the two person multiplication stableford event and most seemed happy with the variation as cards are still able to be assessed for handicapping.
The sponsor for the day was BROTHERS LEAGUES CLUB and the winners will be able to enjoy a few drinks or a discount on meals at either Brothers or Fuller Sports.
Thanks also go to Owen and Deborah for rising early to get the buggies ready and prepare the food for us.
