President's Report & Results Mareeba 31 Oct

Today we played a single stableford event at Mareeba. We scheduled the game on a Monday because of the pseudo holiday that seems to be observed for Melbourne Cup. Only 53 men and 7women played so one wonders if we should not just ignore a horse race that is 3000 kilometers away in future, I welcome members feedback on this!

The sponsor today was DRUMMOND GOLF of Cairns and we thank them again for the support given to our club.

Many of you may have heard that Ian Schofield had his car windscreen broken by a rock from a mower on the railway line last week. That went well for Ian when Queensland Rail came good with the cost of a new windscreen, however, today he was a little less fortunate when a ball he played disappeared into a kangaroos pouch. It seems that the approaching ball alarmed the joey and as he made a dive for the safety of mums pouch the ball went in too. The ball was not recoverable and the lousy roo did not even offer to reimburse poor Ian for the ball!

After a little research I found that rule 19-1a applies and the roo is an outside agency and a ball must be dropped directly under the spot where the ball disappeared into the pouch with no penalty to Ian ( but I am not so sure about the mother and joey).

RESULTS.

Hi All,

The final round of the Savannah Cup will be held next Monday at Gordonvale. As can be seen by the progressive results published above, Betty Lou Pitt (5103 points) and Lily Shirmer (4729.5 points) have opened a wide gap on the rest of the field. With 400 points offering for 1st place in the final round, there is a mathematical chance Lily can overhaul Betty Lou. Lily would have to win outright and Betty Lou get less than 83.5 points for this to happen. Good luck, ladies.

The Men's Division is a much closer race with Robin Tonks (2348.12), John Everall (2227.64) and Lou Siedle (2174.29) battling for the trophy. If Lou were to have a solo win and receive the maximum 400 points he would have a mathematical chance of claiming the trophy providing Robin and John don't score any major points. Whilst not counting Lou out, realistically Robin and John appear to have the front running. Should be a good battle. Good luck to all.

I will be away next week playing golf down the Murray River but I will make every endeavour to process the results and get them to Lou for publication on the Blog as soon as possible after the last round.

Secretary's Report &
Results of the Single Stableford
Played on 4th October 2016
at Babinda Golf Club
58 Players

Secretary's Report

In the absence of Pres Roger, who now has the flu, below is my report & thanks to Greg Gibb for doing the Captain's job in place of Russ who is away too.

This was the final round of the Patron's trophy & we hope to get the results of that to you shortly. We had a rather disappointing rollup of 45 Men & 13 ladies on a sunny but hot day, which saw a few pull out after the first 9, so only one grade was awarded for men. Jothi Naidoo's knee gave out resulting on a trip to the doctor, so we wish her a speedy recovery.

Thanks to Babinda ladies Bernadette & Patsy for looking after us well as usual with sandwiches etc. The fairways were in in great condition, but the greens had suffered from the prolonged overcast & proved a real test, but it was the same for everyone.

The day was sponsored by Cape York Accounting & we thank them for their support.

Our next game is a single stableford at Mareeba.

Louis Siedle
