RESULTS FNQVGA CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 1 GORDONVALE

A great field of 77 players (66 Men & 12 Ladies) travelled to Gordonvale this morning to play the first round of the Drummond Golf FNQVGA Championships. Perfect golfing conditions, with the Gordonvale predictable wind which kept things cool.  The golf course improves each time we play which is a credit to the Gordonvale Golf Club and its volunteers. Also thanks to Mel for getting our field going and for keeping us fed and watered.

RESULTS HALF MOON BAY TUESDAY 23 JULY 2024

A satisfying field of 65 FNQVGA golfers (55 men and 10 ladies) enjoyed great conditions at Yorkey's this morning to play a single stableford sponsored by Chiropractics Works Cairns.

Club President Peter  thanked everyone for playing as well as Brady and Felicity  for helping the field get away and making sure they were adequately fed and watered on return.

Three Victorian visitors today, Bev Smith  and Jan Smith from Hepburn, as well as  Cheryl Warrior from Curlewis Golf Club  at the bottom of Port Phillip - no wonders they are up here enjoying the great weather.

Peter Walters conquers the 11th.

The odds of an amateur making a hole-in-one is roughly  12,500 to 1. The odds of a low-handicapper making a hole-in-one is 5,000 to 1. The odds of a professional golfer making an ace is  2,500 to 1. The odds for the  average golfer on a 180m par-3 is  150,000 to 1. So how did  Gordonvale Golf Club volunteer Peter Walters feel when he aced the 11th at HMB this morning - bloody marvelous! Peters first Hole-in-one after 148,768 attempts. Congratulations Peter.

If you stayed for presentation today you will notice that some of the results published below are slightly different . The ladies course has been corrected with the final results as below.

RESULTS MAREEEBA TUESDAY 16 JULY

A very good field of 69 players (55men and 15 ladies) enjoyed perfect conditions at the Mareeba Golf Course this morning.A thickish fog gave way to a sparkling morning. If you have something too sell, real estate wise, then this week is the week to sell it!

The team of Green keeper Karl , and volunteers Jim, Rod, Enid and Bernie ( hole placer and weed spotting) certainly have the Mareeba course in a commendable condition.  The greens are probably the envy of some coastal clubs. As you may know Mareeba is a good place to grow grass but it takes an expert to prepare a surface.

Thanks to Mareeba President Owen and his assistant Amelia for looking after us and making us feel welcome.

We had a visitor from South Africa Ralph Collis, as well as five new members Philip Smith from Exeter Tasmania, Jane and Michael Taylor returning from Hidden Valley, Wayne Pedersen from Atherton and Noel Webster from Cairns. Welcome all!

Thanks to our sponsors today Cazalys

GORDONVALE RESULTS TUESDAY 9 JULY 2024

The clouds lifted, the rain ceased , the sun came out and 58 FNQVGA golfers (9 ladies and 49 men) played a very pleasant 18 Hole single Stableford at Gordonvale Golf Club this morning. In spite of the rain over the weekend the course was in very good condition and the "all volunteer" greens team can stand up and take a bow for the remarkable development of the course in the last 6-12 months.Looking forward to coming back on 30 July for the first round of the championships.

Scoring was made difficult by the maximum use of the tee blocks on most holes, but the mention-able round of the day went to Tim Hollman who, with the aide of a few chip-ins recorded a winning score of 40 points in the Mens Div. 1. Well done Tim!

Big thank you to Mel and Josh for getting us started and watered at the end of the round, and the great welcome on the notice board as you enter the race track.

Mel and Josh at GGC today.

Our sponsors today were Brothers Leagues Club Cairns. Why not drop in to Fratelli's Cafe and Bar to catch up with friends?
