President's Report & Results of the 2nd Round of the Open & Final Results

President's Report &
Results of the Second Round of the
FNQ Veteran Golfers Open
& Overall Results
Single Stableford Competition
Played on 26th June 2012
at Cairns Golf Club
158 Players

President's Report

The second round of our second Open started off with a light drizzle, but not enough to put off a large field & just enough to slow the greens down a little. Conditions seemed to be conducive to better scoring as Ross White had an eagle on the 10th & Kerry Gallagher a hole in one on the 8th. Well done.

Thank you to the caterers for providing the fish & chips & lasagne & salad for all competitors. The meals were excellent & well received. The bar staff all did well to keep up with a crowd of thirsty patrons after the game – thanks to them too.

Thanks also to the Cairns Pro Shop & Brett Wilson, who sponsored the Nearest the Pin shots on all par 3 holes. Thanks to our regular supporter, Savannah Lifestyle Resorts, who sponsored the day & the overall competition. Melody gave us a brief update on developments in the Mareeba complex & invited all who were interested to drop in & see for themseves what was on offer. Your support is greatly appreciated.

I don't intend to run through all the visitor's clubs, suffice to say we had representatives from WA, Vic, NSW & NT in addition to those from clubs ranging from Ipswich to Bargara in Queensland. We hope you had an enjoyable competition, will stay & join in our regular games until you head for home & will return to play in next year's Open.

The Open went smoothly & in a very amicable atmosphere. The first was due to lots of hard work put in by the committee for which they richly deserve thanks & congratulations for a job well done. The second was no doubt due to the first & also to some very pleasant weather over the two days which helped keep tempers from becoming too frayed, since if the golf wasn't up to expectations, it was a pleasant walk!

Our game next Tuesday is at Mossman.

Look forward to seeing you there.

President's Report & Results 1st Round Open 25th June

President's Report &
Results Of the First Round of the
FNQ Veteran Golfers Open
Single Stableford Competition
Played on 25th June 2012
at Cairns Golf Club
145 Players

President's Report

The first round of our second Open had perfect weather & was played on a course that had just completed its Championships, so was in excellent condition. The Greenkeeper, Brendan, had moved the tees forward a bit & placed the flags for us in more accessible positions, but the course was still a test.

A big thank you to the caterers for providing the nibblies for each group on the completion of the round. Tomorrow a meal will be provided & you have been issued with tickets for the relevant choice you made. Please don't loose these, as you will be required to produce them to gain the meal. Without them you will have to pay $10 again!

Thanks also to the Cairns Pro Shop & Brett Wilson, who sponsored the Nearest the Pins shots on all par 3 holes & called starters to the tees, & to Golf World who sponsored the day. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to our 28 visitors from far & near. I do not have space to include all names, but they came from Bargara, Ballina, Belmont, Box Hill, Caboolture, Caloundra, Charlestown, Geelong, Gympie, Hervey Bay, Horton Park, Howlong, Mandurah, Nambour, Parap, Proserpine, Rosewood, Serpentine (WA) & Yallourn.  I have not included our immediate past President, Ross Bird in that list, although he came up from Port Macquarie for the event, because he remains a member. He no doubt enjoyed the day the more for being able to just roll up & play without any of the associated organisation involved.

Last year's Open was our first & attracted 88 entrants, & was obviously popular in view of such a large increase this year. Naturally, that also places an increased burden on our committee & I thank them for their cheerful acceptance of the various tasks they were volunteered for!

Our next game is the second round of the Open tomorrow at Cairns golf club.

The times remain the same, but you will tee off the opposite tee, ie if you started off the first tee today, you will start off the tenth tomorrow.

Any of our members who have not registered for the Open & wish to play are welcome to register as usual, but the cost will be $15 for the day & you will not get a start before 9 am unless there are cancellations.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Next Game is our Open at Cairns 25/26 June

All,

Everyone has had plenty of notice about our Open at Cairns next Monday & Tuesday over the last few weeks in the form of announcements at presentations & on this site & the need to register for it by 19th June if they wanted a game.

It is disappointing, therefore, to get calls from people who want to play at this late stage.  Anyone who has not registered & who turns up on either day will be most unlikely to get a game until after 9am, unless there are cancellations, as we have a big field of 152.

The draw for Monday's game has been sent out to all registrants with email addresses & is also produced below.

I look forward to a good competition.

President's Report & Results 19th June at Gordonvale

President's Report &
Results of the 4BBB Stableford Competition
Played on 19th June 2012
at Gordonvale Golf Club
150 Players

President's Report

A record attendance for this year of 150 players found a course in fine condition after the first round of its championships the previous weekend. Congratulations to the greens staff & volunteers who assisted in preparing it. The day was fine, if cool, with the usual breeze getting up around 11am to waft the smell of molasses over the course from the mill & make club selection a bit trickier & a couple of holes a lot longer!

Thanks to Emily & her assistant for making up the sandwiches & Lionel for keeping up with the drinks.

Welcome to new members Mike Blunt from Mareeba & Jacki Griffiths from Cairns who bring our membership for the year up to 286. Welcome back to our long distance member, Ross Bird from Port Macquarie.

Welcome also to our visitors Steve Paulin from Yallourn, Vic., Kiwamu Okuda from Japan, Bill Stieler from Gold Coast, John Barber from Geelong, Vic., Clive Eaton from Palmerston, NT., Trevor Miller & Tim Wood from Gordonvale & John Morison from Caloundra.

We will have the draw for our Open at Carns next Monday & Tuesday up on this site towards the end of this week.

The entry fee for the Open includes a snack platter per group at the end of the first day and a meal at the end of the second.

The winner of our last raffle is Kevin Moore, with runner up Anette Tesch. Congratulations to both.

Look forward to seeing you at our Open on 25/26 June at Cairns Golf Club.

See you at Gordonvale.

Cheers, Louis
