President's Report

90 men & 29 ladies turned up to a fine day that was even a bit hot for the time of year, with next to no wind, causing high humidity as the course dried out. The course had water in the overgrown drains & thick rough, as warned on the blog, but the greens hadn't been mown since the weekend & were slow & inconsistent with little break & plenty of worm casts. Scores reflected the tough conditions.

Thanks to Mick the new Manager, Kim & staff for looking after us. The sangers must have been good as they sold out!

Thanks also to Masters Home Improvements, our sponsor for the day.

Welcome to visitors Keith Dudgeon of Ashgrove, Russell Spencer of Calliope, Robert Noble of Gordon, NSW & Joe Sawers of Neangor Park, Vic & to new member Lynn Ford of Cairns.

We have had no takers for training on use of our defibrillator so far, apart from committee members. Anyone interested please give me a call on 4045 3832.

Our next game is a single stableford at Mossman.

PS  I have a G10 Ping hood cover picked up at the course - see me at registration to collect.

Next Game Gordonvale 14 May

All,

Our game on Tuesday is a single stableford at Gordonvale.

I was surprised on Saturday to find that they had been able to get the mower on fairways, given the amount of rain we have had.  However, the course is in fair condition, just don't go into the drains & the rough is quite high & tough, so if you venture in, make sure you get a good fix on your line, particularly if you go on the race track which has not been mowed!  Hopefully the bunkers will be in play.  The greens are running quite true, although there seems to be some virus in a couple.

See you there.

President's Report & Results Mareeba 7 May

President's Report & Results
of the Single Stableford Competition
Played on 7th May 2013
at Mareeba Golf Club
109 Players

President's Report

Despite a forecast of scattered showers, 84 men & 25 ladies turned up to play a course in great condition in perfect weather. The greens had been scarified recently, which made their speed a bit inconsistent. However, all of the new greens were in play bar the 7th & all should be in fine condition by our next game there in June, with a bit of rain to bring them on. The new 10th has made the hole a bit tougher but the new 11th is a real challenge, particularly with a headwind! The volunteers & greens staff have done a great job, well done.

Thanks to Col McDowall for marking up the board & putting out the NTPs, also to Raylene for looking after us well - the sandwiches were excellent.

Welcome to visitors Peter Tait of Wingham, NSW & Russell Spencer of Calliope & to new members John Norris of Mossman & George Brew of Cooktown. Our membership stands at 255 for the year to date.

Congratulations to Bill Foster for his hole in one on the 13th. Pity he got so excited he forgot to sign the card & was disqualified! However, he'll still get his trophy.

Folks, Bill was one of several who were disqualified for omitting to sign their cards &/or put their handicap on them. We try to run a game with the object of having fun in a competitive atmosphere, but we still enforce the rules of golf. If we didn't there would be chaos.

Although we may give Captain Greg a stir & joke about it , believe me he takes no pleasure in having to tell someone they are disqualified, particularly if they have a good score, so PLEASE take the time to check your card after the game, making sure that your handicap is on it & it is signed.

The raffle winner was Peter Handley, second Daryl King – congratulations. You can pick up your winnings at registration from June. This will be the last raffle run for a while.

We will be arranging training for use of our defibrillator shortly. Anyone interested please give me a call on 4045 3832, or see me at registration.

President's Report & Results 30 Apr at Half Moon Bay

President's Report & Results
of the Single Stableford Competition
Played on 30th April 2013
at Half Moon Bay Golf Club
81 Players

President's Report

Despite a damp start to the day with more rain predicted, 64 men & 17 ladies decided to brave the prediction & turned up at a course in good condition, although the scores show it was not a pushover.

The greens had received a light sanding & been rolled, which made them surprisingly fast considering the few rain showers experienced through the day. Well done the green-staff.

Thanks also to the caterers for looking after us well as usual.

A particular thanks to our sponsor for the day, Bendigo Bank.  The Manager, David Kirk, attended the registration & presentation but unfortunately was unable to play as he had damaged his shoulder the week before.  Next time hopefully David.

Welcome to visitors Russell Spencer of Calliope & John Norris of Mossman.

Congratulations to Captain Greg who made a fine comeback after last week to take out Div 1 by ensuring he had put his handicap on the card & signed it (several times) so there was no potential for disqualification!
