Veteran Golfers

Thank you to the players who participated in today’s event, and thank you to all the players who stayed back for the presentation. The field consisted of 120 players.

Todays event was sponsored by TGT Hardware, Mareeba.  They are very strong supporters of the FNQ Veteran Golfers Assoc. Not only did they give vouchers for the main prizes they gave a small pouch Esky, Stubby Holder, Pen, and covered pad for the nearest the pins.

Mareeba Golf Course was in excellent condition as usual, thank you to the Greens staff and volunteers for the effort put in for us.

I was honored to make presentations to Shirley Fieldhouse and Claud Clark on behalf of the Queensland Veteran Golf Union for services to Veteran Golf in Queensland. They fully deserve the honor of the awards as they have contributed greatly to the FNQ Veteran Golfers Assoc. Thank you.

The Drummond Driver Competition came to a close today. Craig Thomson from Drummonds Golf Cairns enjoyed a game with the FNQVGA today and presented the TaylorMade Superfast Burner 2.0 Driver to the winner. The competition was played over 9 rounds of golf, the winner having the highest aggregate of the six best scores from the nine games. Players had to play at least six games to be eligible. Over 60 players were eligible to win after 9 rounds, that is they played at least six games. To me that was a tremendous result. Thank you to all participants and a big thank you to Drummond Golf, Cairns. It was a close result in the end as there were a number of players who could have taken the Driver for example John Pilbin 229 points, Colin McDowall 227 points, Russ Gill 226 points, Roger Smith 225 points. The winner was Ross Bird with 232 points.

A couple of reminders next Tuesday 14^th June, Half Moon Bay Golf Club is hosting us, it is a Single Stableford, followed by Gordonvale Golf Club on the 21^st June, this event is a 4BBB Stableford with a normal start. Please select your partners for this event, but if you haven’t one by the 21^st we will pair you up with another player.

The FNQVGA 36 Hole Open is on at Cairns Golf Club on the 27^th and 28^th June. Nominations need to be in by 21^st June, only $20 per FNQVGA member, or $22 for visiting Veteran Golfers, contact June Willmot on 07 4053 2329. The FNQ Atherton Veterans Open is 7^th and 8^th July at Atherton Golf Club, contact Atherton Golf Club on 07 4091 1283.
