Next Tuesday 2^nd August, Gordonvale Golf Club are hosting our event.  It is a Single Stableford and is sponsored by one of our Members and Committee Member Colin Johannsen. This is Colin’s second year on Committee, he is seen each week determining the days results (and does a good job).

The course is in good condition, the people in the know tell me the greens have improved a lot since we were there a couple of weeks ago. The rain a couple of weeks ago has greened the course up. I always look forward to playing at Gordonvale, open your shoulders up on the Racecourse, but really tighten your game over the back with the trees.

Cairns Golf Club would like to apologise for the lack of food at our game on Tuesday. Bill Leonard wrote an email to Gerry Casey the new Manager , pointing this fact out. Gerry has responded very positively and has committed to giving the Vets the catering arrangements Wednesday Sporters and Saturday Golfers have. In all fairness, Gerry has only been there a short time, and I think we surprised him with the 159 field. So remember next time we are playing at Cairns there will be food available. Thank you, Bill and Gerry.

It is getting to the time of year the committee is starting to put next year’s Program together. If you know of or have good contacts of people or businesses who would like to sponsor an event or number of events next year, please see either myself or Lou Siedle. We will let you know our criteria and expectations. We have about 40 games for the year so there are quite a few spots to cover.

Tuesday 9^th August is the first round of the Championships at Mareeba Golf Club it is a stroke event, followed by 2^nd and final round of the championships at Half Moon Bay Golf Club on Tuesday 16^th August

Veteran Golfers

Cairns Golf Club are preparing for their City of Cairns Tournament next week and we experienced  the course in its best condition.  The greens were very fast with some tricky pin placements, while the Tees were a little forward, it made for a good days golf. Thank you Cairns Golf Club for the effort put in to prepare the course for us.

There were 159 players, our highest number of players this year, thank you for your attendance.

Golf World, Mulgrave Rd., Cairns were the sponsors for today, they donated very good prizes for the winners and balls for the rundown. Thank you Fabian at Golf World for your continued support.

Tuesday 9^th August is the 1^st Round of the Championships at Mareeba Golf Club, it is a Stroke event followed by the second round of the Championships on Tuesday 16^th August at Half Moon Bay Golf Club which is also a Stroke Event. For conditions to be eligible to win the 36 Hole Championship refer to the Back Page of the 2011 Program.

The Stanton Bailey Shield is contested over the two rounds of the Championships, plus a third stroke round which will be played at Atherton Golf Club on Tuesday 23^rdAugust.

Next Game Cairns GC 26th July

Veteran Golfers

Next Tuesday 26^th July Cairns Golf Club are hosting the FNQ Veteran Golfers, the event is a Single Stableford and is sponsored by Golf World, Mulgrave Road, Cairns.

I am expecting the course to be in top condition, with a bit of run and fast greens.

I am about to place an order for shirts, I have enquired and I can acquire the green shirts with logo and pocket for approx. $35, if those people who are waiting for pockets would email me back with size, I will order them as specials. Also anybody wanting long sleeve grey shirts, they are also a special, so email me with your size and I will order them. Otherwise I should have a full range of Mens and Womens sizes in a few weeks.

On the Tuesday 2^nd August, Gordonvale are hosting us with a Single Stableford and 9^th August, Mareeba are hosting the first round of the Championships and 16^thAugust, Half Moon Bay are hosting the second round of the Championships.

Remember if you do not qualify for the Championships you are still welcome to compete in the daily events.
