President's Message 31st October 2011

Veteran Golfers,

Once again we had a perfect day for golf, with Half Moon Bay golf course in great condition.  Thank you to all those who prepared the course, to the club for sponsoring the event, and to the caterers who looked after us well as usual.

The day was the Cancer Council Event postponed from the washed out Cairns game on 18th October.  Entry fees were $10 with $3 of that going to the Cancer Council.  A total of $389 was raised from the 104 players who attended, which was a good turnout considering it was moved from our usual Tuesday because of the Melbourne Cup.

Welcome to our 9 visitors, Robyn Harper, Barry Foxover, Bernie Dalton, Brian Miller, David Mulcahy & Toli Lisecki all of Half Moon Bay, Andy Lloyd from Gordonvale & Trevor Freeman from Lakelands, WA.

The year is drawing to a close, with our AGM at Gordonvale on 22nd November & final event & Xmas breakup on 6th December at Cairns GC.  For those interested in nominating for the management committee, a form is included below - just copy & paste into your notepad, complete & hand it in at the sign in desk at Mareeba next Tuesday.

For those members interested in attending the 2012 National Championships at Mornington Penisula, Vic, between 11th & 16th November, the application forms are on http://www.mpvetsgolf.com.au/program_2012.html.. This Championship will be very popular as the courses being played are Rosebud, The Dunes, The Legends Course at Moonah Links and the Ocean Course at The National Golf Club.

I look forward to seeing you at Mareeba on 31st October, where I am advised that the greens are FAST.

Next Game Half Moon Bay GC MONDAY 31st October

Veterans,

Just a reminder that our next game is on MONDAY 31st October at Half Moon Bay GC.

I've been advised that the course is in excellent condition and the caterers will be preparing their usual range of snacks to enable you to keep your strength up.

The game is a Single Stableford and as we had to cancel the Cairns game on 18th October, this will be the last round of the Ted Thomasson Trophy.  It is also in aid of the Cairns Cancer Council, so fees will be $10 with $3 of that going to the Cancer Council.

This will be followed by Mareeba on 8th November, Single Stableford.

Hope to see you on Monday,

Louis Siedle

President's Message 25th October 2011

Veteran Golfers

Well, the day at Millaa Millaa Golf Club started off looking a bit bleak, but the sun came out about 8.30 with a lovely light cool breeze, which made a perfect day for golf.

Thank you to all those who prepared the course, which was in great condition & much appreciated by those who had wet feet playing in Cairns at the weekend.  The long par 3 16th was a real challenge, reflected in the fact that no-one managed to claim the nearest the pin.

Thanks also to the ladies who prepared some raisin toast to welcome the 51 men & 9 women who turned up to play in this first round of the Patron's Trophy and then some excellent corned beef & salad rolls to sustain us at half time.

The game was sponsored again by Don McHardie of the Millaa Millaa 5 Star Supermarket, who was unfortunately unable to play but came to watch & have a chuckle at the approaches to the 9th.  Thanks Don.

Welcome to our visitors Hugh Gillard of Millaa Millaa, Marty Dwyer of Gove, NT, Ron Rankine & Allan Heinemann of Ravenshoe.

Coming up are games on
MONDAY 31st October Single Stableford at Half Moon Bay Golf Club. This event is the Cancer Council Event postponed from the washed out Cairns game last week, so entry fee for that day will be $10 with $3 of that going to the Cancer Council.  Wear yellow if you want to make an impact.  Then on 8th November we have a single stableford at Mareeba.

Nominations for the committee are still sought & nomination forms will be at the book-in table over the next few games & also on an earlier post on this blog.

The year is drawing to a close, with our AGM at Gordonvale on 22nd November & final event & Xmas breakup on 6th December at Cairns GC.

I look forward to seeing you at Half Moon Bay on 31st October.

Next Game Millaa Millaa GC 25th October

Veterans,

I'm pleased to be able to reassure everyone that the game next Tuesday at Millaa Millaa is ON.

The club reports the course is in good condition & they didn't have anywhere near the rain that Cairns copped over the last week.

The event is a Single Stableford, sponsored by Don McHardie & is also the first round of the Patron's Trophy.

If you are interested in joining the committee, we will have nomination forms at the sign-in desk.  Please give some thought to joining us - many hands make light work.

Next games after Millaa are MONDAY 31st October (day before the Melbourne Cup) at Half Moon Bay Golf Club, Single Stableford.  As we had to cancel the Cairns game last week, this will be the last round of the Ted Thomasson Trophy & also in aid of the Cairns Cancer Council.  This will be followed by Mareeba on 8th November, Single Stableford.

See you at Millaa.

Cancelled Cairns Game 18th Oct

All,

Unfortunately the game at Cairns GC had to be cancelled today because of the rain, which shows no sign of letting up at present.

As the day was supposed to be the last round of the Ted Thomasson Trophy & also in aid of the Cairns Cancer Council, the committee resolved that both those events be postponed to our game at Half Moon Bay GC on Monday 31st October.

Regards, Louis Siedle

Next Game Cairns GC 18th October

Veteran Golfers

Cairns Golf Club is hosting next Tuesdays event. The course looks in great condition, & I'm sure the greens will be  quite speedy after the recent hot, windy drying spell.

The event is a Single Stableford, sponsored by Golf World.  As previously advised, this will be a day in aid of the Cancer Council & comp fees will be $10, with $3 being donated to the Cancer Council.  If you have anything yellow to wear to show you support for the cause, feel free to brighten up the course!  This is also the last round of the Ted Thomasson Trophy.

If you are interested in being on the committee next year, we will have nomination forms at the sign-in desk.  Please give some thought to joining us - many hands make light work.

Also we are seeking sponsors for next year, if you can point us in a particular direction, introduce us to a potential sponsor, or even organise the sponsorship, it would be much appreciated.

Next games after Cairns are Tuesday 25th October, at Millaa Millaa Golf Club, Single Stableford, which is the first round of the Patron's Trophy, followed by MONDAY 31st October (day before the Melbourne Cup) at Half Moon Bay Golf Club, Single Stableford.

96 golfers who contested today's event, 75 Men & 21 Ladies.  This was the last game for the Consistency trophy.  The next game at Cairns will be the final for the Ted Thomasson Trophy & the one at Millaa Millaa the week after will be the first round of the Parton's Trophy.

Welcome to our visitors Ryosei Kobayashi from japan, Rita Gibson from Torquay in the UK, Robyn Harper & Barry Foxover from Half Moon Bay, & Margaret Magill & Cheryl Piccone from Atherton.

Remember, we are seeking people who are interested in joining the committee next year.  There will be at least 3 vacancies from the current committee & I will have some nomination forms at the book-in table over the next few games.  Please give some consideration to signing up, as it is not an onerous job if there are enough people involved to fill in gaps caused by illness, family commitments, holidays etc

The year is drawing to a close, with our final event & Xmas breakup on 6th December at Cairns GC, but if you are looking for additional games to fill in December, Mareeba Golf Club is having its 2011 "Closing Day" on Saturday the 10th December. If interested, you can give them a ring for details.

I look forward to seeing you at Cairns on 18th October.
