Veteran Golfers
Well, the day at Millaa Millaa Golf Club started off looking a bit bleak, but the sun came out about 8.30 with a lovely light cool breeze, which made a perfect day for golf.
Thank you to all those who prepared the course, which was in great condition & much appreciated by those who had wet feet playing in Cairns at the weekend. The long par 3 16th was a real challenge, reflected in the fact that no-one managed to claim the nearest the pin.
Thanks also to the ladies who prepared some raisin toast to welcome the 51 men & 9 women who turned up to play in this first round of the Patron's Trophy and then some excellent corned beef & salad rolls to sustain us at half time.
The game was sponsored again by Don McHardie of the Millaa Millaa 5 Star Supermarket, who was unfortunately unable to play but came to watch & have a chuckle at the approaches to the 9th. Thanks Don.
Welcome to our visitors Hugh Gillard of Millaa Millaa, Marty Dwyer of Gove, NT, Ron Rankine & Allan Heinemann of Ravenshoe.
Coming up are games on MONDAY 31st October Single Stableford at Half Moon Bay Golf Club. This event is the Cancer Council Event postponed from the washed out Cairns game last week, so entry fee for that day will be $10 with $3 of that going to the Cancer Council. Wear yellow if you want to make an impact. Then on 8th November we have a single stableford at Mareeba.
Nominations for the committee are still sought & nomination forms will be at the book-in table over the next few games & also on an earlier post on this blog.
The year is drawing to a close, with our AGM at Gordonvale on 22nd November & final event & Xmas breakup on 6th December at Cairns GC.
I look forward to seeing you at Half Moon Bay on 31st October.
Louis Siedle
