President's Message 11th October 2011

President's Report

Veteran Golfers

Thank you to Atherton Golf Club for preparing the course, sponsoring today's event & providing the sandwiches which were appreciated as usual.  The course had plenty of run & anyone with a downhill putt on the 15th had an interesting experience!

96 golfers who contested today's event, 75 Men & 21 Ladies.  This was the last game for the Consistency trophy.  The next game at Cairns will be the final for the Ted Thomasson Trophy & the one at Millaa Millaa the week after will be the first round of the Parton's Trophy.

Welcome to our visitors Ryosei Kobayashi from japan, Rita Gibson from Torquay in the UK, Robyn Harper & Barry Foxover from Half Moon Bay, & Margaret Magill & Cheryl Piccone from Atherton.

Coming up are games on Tuesday 18th October Single Stableford at Cairns Golf Club. This event is the Cancer Council Event, so entry fee for that day will be $10 with $3 of that going to the Cancer Council.  Wear yellow if you want to make an impact.  Then on 25th October we have the first round of the Patron's Trophy at Millaa Millaa, also a single stableford.

Remember, we are seeking people who are interested in joining the committee next year.  There will be at least 3 vacancies from the current committee & I will have some nomination forms at the book-in table over the next few games.  Please give some consideration to signing up, as it is not an onerous job if there are enough people involved to fill in gaps caused by illness, family commitments, holidays etc

The year is drawing to a close, with our final event & Xmas breakup on 6th December at Cairns GC, but if you are looking for additional games to fill in December, Mareeba Golf Club is having its 2011 "Closing Day" on Saturday the 10th December. If interested, you can give them a ring for details.

I look forward to seeing you at Cairns on 18th October.

Louis Siedle
