President's Message 4th October 2011

Veteran Golfers

Thank you to the 128 golfers who contested today's event, 107 Men & 22 Ladies.

Highgrove Bathrooms were the sponsors and again provided some great putters as prizes, and Half Moon Bay Golf Club hosted todays event. The course was as challenging as usual but some good scores were returned and the catering hit the spot again.  Thanks to all involved.

Welcome to our visitors Vaughn Edwards, Brian Miller & Barry Foxover from Half Moon Bay, Don Hastie from Northlake, Rita Gibson all the way from Torquay in the UK & Patricia & Michael Chadwick from Mirimar, NZ.

We are seeking people who are interested in joining the committee next year.  There will be at least 3 vacancies from the current committee & I will have some nomination forms at the book-in table over the next few games.  Please give some consideration to signing up, as it is not an onerous job if there are enough people involved to fill in gaps caused by illness, family commitments, holidays etc.

Ross announced his resignation as President at the meeting and Claud Clark made a short speech & presented him with a plaque expressing our appreciation for his efforts over the last 5 years & to remind him how much he enjoyed our company!  Whilst he is moving south shortly I'm sure we will see him up here again to thaw out next winter if not before. I will take over as President until the AGM in November & will offer myself for the position for 2012, but if anyone else would like to nominate please feel free!

Coming up are games on Tuesday 11th October which is a Single Stableford at Atherton Golf Club, followed on Tuesday 18th October Single Stableford at Cairns Golf Club. This event is the Cancer Council Event, so entry fee for that day will be $10 with $3 of that going to the Cancer Council.  Wear yellow if you want to make an impact.  Then on 25th October we have the first round of the Patron's Trophy at Millaa Millaa, also a single stableford.

For those members interested in attending the 2012 National Championships at Mornington Penisula, Vic, the application forms are about to be placed on the web. This Championship will be very popular as the courses being played are Rosebud, The Dunes, The Legends Course at Moonah Links and the Ocean Course at The National Golf Club. The link to information is  http://www.mpvetsgolf.com.au/program_2012.html. The application forms will be on there when they are posted.

Hope to see you at these games.

Louis Siedle
