Veteran Golfers
Thank you to the volunteers at Mareeba Golf Club for preparing the course, which was in great condition (although the three temporary greens on 1, 12 & 13 provided some challenges), and for Col for setting up for us as usual. We could not have wished for a better day, with a pleasant cool breeze & mainly sunny conditions. Those travelling up from the coast may have been anxious after the threatening clouds early on, but all was clear at Mareeba and there was a surprising amount of run, particularly close to the fast greens.
Thanks go to Steggles for sponsoring today's event so generously. The winners, runners up & nearest the pins as well as some of the higher scorers will be well prepared for Xmas! Thanks also to the staff for preparing the sandwiches which were appreciated as usual.
136 golfers who contested today's event, 113 Men & 23 Ladies, which was a great turnout. We finished the year with 326 members and have started next year's membership with 50 renewals.
Our next game is the final of the Patron's Trophy at Babinda on 15th November, single stableford and Wal Anthony has generously sponsored the event by providing two sidetables with a retail value of around $350.
This is followed by an 8.30am shotgun start single stableford at Gordonvale on 22nd November after our AGM, which starts at 8am. A notice will be posted on the blog shortly. The Annual Trophy presentations will follow after the game, so please stay on, socialise & give the winners a good hand.
The year is drawing to a close, with our final event & Xmas breakup on 6th December at Cairns GC, but if you are looking for additional games to fill in December, Mareeba Golf Club is having its 2011 "Closing Day" on Saturday the 10th December. If interested, you can give them a ring for details.
