President's Report

A beautiful cool morning warmed up to a clear day with a light breeze for the best field of the year as 121 men & 29 ladies turned up to a course in great condition after the club championships the previous weekend. Congratulations to the greens staff, who were also busy repairing damage to the first green caused by vandals the night before.

Thank you to the caterers who did a good job of keeping up with our numbers. Thanks also to Brothers Leagues Club for sponsoring the event.

Welcome to visitors Charlie Langham of Wauchope, Peter Buckman of Yallourn, Brian Gaudian of Cobram/Barooga, Trevor Harlow of Colonial, Shawn Wolstenholme of Riverside Oaks, Burt Smith of Albury, Kerry & Vic Aanensen of Amstel, & Gary Mostyn of Howlong & to new member Richard Staines of Cairns. Our membership for the year to date stands at 286.

I must offer my apology for misleading some players at the start of the comp today by stating it was Bisque. Someone queried what game it was with me at a busy time & I had looked at the wrong date. However, after explaining my error to our long suffering Captain (& receiving a dirty look) he has converted any bisque scores to stableford so no-one missed out. Thank you Greg.

Our next games are our Open on Monday & Tuesday next week, both single stableford at Cairns sponsored by Drummond Golf. Nominations for this event have now closed. The starting sheets are being prepared & will be emailed out to all for whom we have email addresses as well as being posted to this blog.

Anyone who has not nominated for the Open may still turn up on the day at registration between 7 & 8am & will be tagged on at the end of the field if we can fit them in. However, as we have a full field at present places will be limited.

Our last raffle before the Open was drawn – Winner Bruce Walters, Second Merv Haines. Congratulations.

There have been some changes to our program and copies of the amended program for the rest of the year will be posted to this blog as well as being available at registration. Following a dispute with Mossman golf club, the games there on 9 July & 10 September have been cancelled. We will be playing Millaa Millaa on 9 July and Babinda on 10 September, both games counting towards the Patron's Trophy. Also, the Bisque game at Half Moon Bay on 30 July has been changed to a single stableford Consistency event, and the single stableford at Atherton on 1 October has also been designated a Consistency event.
