AGM MAREEBA TUESDAY 19 NOVEMBER 2024

 

The Annual General meeting of the Far North Qld Veteran Golfers Assoc Inc will be held at the Mareeba Golf Club on Tuesday 19 November commencing at 8am. 

There will be an individual shotgun start , 18 Hole individual stableford for men and ladies immediately following the meeting. Please nominate by 7.30am so the match committee can do the draw by 8am.

This is our penultimate  game for the year , please show your support.

RESULTS GORDONVALE TUESDAY 12 NOVEMBER

The Mulgrave sugar mill started operations in 1896 but it took another 54 years before the townsfolk of Gordonvale  developed their own golf course. Ever since then golfers have used the telltale stream of smoke from the mill chimney to tell both the strength and direction of the invariably south-easterly wind. Well not today. The mill stopped crushing last Thursday and there was a lack of that sweet aroma when 48 FNQVGA golfers (39 men and 9 ladies) took on the course at the base of Walsh's Pyramid, or Djarragun if you prefer. The fairways were very hard and very fast, the weather was very hot and the greens were very good. A special tribute to all the Gordonvale workers for the wonderful transformation of the putting surfaces in twelve months.

We had two new members today Cheryl Piccone (well returning actually) and present QVGU president Jeffrey Cruickshank who has relocated from Toowoomba. Welcome to you both.

A new sponsor today Red Rooster and local owner Damon Caldwell. Apparently the Picklebird Burgers (2 chicken tenders, lettuce, tomato, cheese, chipotle pickles & pickle mayo) come highly recommended, but not by my cardiologist. Thanks Damon.

RESULTS MOSSMAN MONDAY 4 NOVEMBER 2024

 A disappointing field of 41 players (33 men and 8 ladies) traveled to Mossman this morning to contest an 18 Holes Stableford for men and Ladies. There was some suggestion that members stayed at home to study form guides for the big race tomorrow, however the winners were those members who played golf today and perhaps drew a winner in the FNQVGA Melbourne Cup Sweepstakes.

Thanks to everyone at the Mossman Golf Club today for making us feel very welcome and having your course presented so beautifully in spite of the obviously dry conditions.

One new member today , Bruce Mumbray (Mumbles to his friends) from HMB. Welcome!

Our thoughts and best wishes go out to the Gossip family as we understand that Maureen was taken ill on Saturday. All the best Michael and Maureen.
