ATHERTON RESULTS Tuesday 19 September 2023

It may have been a little surprise that the weather was perfect for golf in Atherton this morning, but it was no surprise that the Atherton course was in immaculate condition. The fairways had plenty of roll and a good even coverage and the greens hold the mantle of the best the FNQVGA play on, a tribute to returning green keeper Brendan and his team. It was  a pity that there were only 39 players (34 Men and 5Ladies) to share in the delights.

Thanks to Irish and Cheryl who were on hand to start proceedings this morning and to newbie Rhys for looking after us after the game.

Special thanks to our generous sponsor for the day Brothers Leagues Club.

Tuesday 19 September ATHERTON

It may not be this good tomorrow at Atheron, but still worth the effort.

The was 3mm of precipitation recorded at Atherton today, but the WillyWeather forecast for tomorrow is a 35% chance for <1mm of rain, partly cloudy and a maximum temp 25 degrees. So you will need a spray jacket but the sun will come out at some stage.

Tee off from 7am

Gordonval Results Tuesay 12 September 2023

These days we call Jarrugan by its Migaloo  name, Walsh's Pyramid. It was named by explorer George Dalrymple after William Henry Walsh a Minister of Works back in the days of Colonial Queensland.

Whatever you call it, it was the Pyramid that towered the  over 54 FNQVGA golfers ( 46 men and 8 ladies) who took on the bipolar Gordonvale golf course this morning. If the fairways were on 'speed' then the greens were on 'Valium'! As usual these conditions were suitable to some players as very good scores were returned even with the added factors of the wind building up during the morning.

A good crowd stayed on for the presentations and passed on thanks to the Gordonvale Club, especially to Manager Elliott (who also gave demonstrations of the Fiskars 4 Pronged Xact Weed Puller) and his able assistant Lauren.

Once again thanks to our generous sponsors Drummond Golf Cairns

Gordonvale Tuesday 12 September

18 Hole Single Stableford at Gordonvale, this Tuesday.

If you haven't traveled to Gordonvale lately, come on down and see Far North Queensland’s biggest and most complex road and rail infrastructure project.

The $535 million Bruce Highway – Cairns Southern Access Corridor (Stage 3) – Edmonton to Gordonvale project is delivering long-term improvements to traffic flow and road safety through reducing congestion and highway travel times, and improving road access and active transport networks.

Wonder at  the Menmuny Overpass, which spans 141 metres, is a significant milestone for the project and ask Why?

Thanks to Don and Trevor for the course preparation and Marg for the hot buttered fruit loaf toast on arrival.

Patron Claud Clark's 90 th .

This Wednesday FNQVGA Patron Claud Clark celebrates  his 90th birthday, so to celebrate, albeit a little early, the Association sang "Happy Birthday" and cut the superb fruit cake at Mareeba last week assisted by Kay Bergiel.

Claud was the FNQVGA from 2005 to 2009 and has been the Patron since 2011. WE all hope you have a wonderful day on Wednesday and see you in Gordonvale next Tuesday.
