President Report & results from Mareeba GC 29 Oct

PRESIDENT REPORT – MAREEBA GOLF CLUB 29 Oct 19

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford at MAREEBA Golf Club with a good rollup of 85 golfers consisting of 68 men & 17 ladies. There was one new member, Warren Berry from HMBGC, welcome to the FNQVGA Warren.
Many thanks to Rod Cade & Ron Blake for arranging the carts, tea/coffee etc, much appreciated by all. The course was once again in good condition due to the hard work from the dedicated members of Rod`s crew, well done guys we will be back on 19 Nov 19.

Our sponsor today was the REEF CASINO who have supported us throughout 2019, a great place to stay & play, you never know your luck, you may just win a trip to Vegas. Thanks Reef Casino for your continued support.

Today we had a surprise visit from our OLD President Greg Gibb (from somewhere down south), Greg was welcomed by all members back into the fold as if he had never been away and I can assure you all that he had a fantastic day and was over the moon to have received a ball in the rundown. There was an incident on the 17th green whereby he putted from off the green and it was going to go off the other side when all of a sudden a Roo appeared from nowhere and caressed his ball to within 6 feet from the hole, unbelievable, and because he is such an honest John he deliberately 3 putted as he considered it unfair to the rest of the field. Apologies for going on a bit but I was with Gibbsy all day and it does rub off........

For those who know Lily Schirmer, she has recently had a quick visit to Townsville hospital and has had half a lung removed to get rid of that dastardly cancer thingy. The good news is that the op went well and I have been assured that Lily will be returning home either today or tomorrow to commence her recovery. From all of us at the Vets Lily our prayers and thoughts are with you & Keith and we hope to see your smiling face on a golf course when you are fully recovered, love to you Lily from everyone.

We also wish our Secretary Louis Siedle all the best for his current medical procedures and hope the treatment cures his ailment as well. Keep the faith Louis, love from us all.

Next weeks game will be on Monday 4th Nov at Half Moon Bay GC due to the running of the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday 5th. Please leave yourself a note for Monday next week.

Next Game Mareeba 29 Oct

All,

Our next game is a nice easy single stableford at Mareeba golf club.

There's nothing new to report about the course, which did not get anywhere near the rain we had here,so there will be plenty of run as usual.

However, sad to say Gaby will be on holiday, having decided to celebrate a birthday (which one will remain a secret with me unless a substantial bribe is offered!) so her famous apple turnovers will not be in evidence.

See you there.

Louis

PS The game after this is at HMB & will be on MONDAY 4 Nov, as a certain horse race is being run somewhere down south on the Tuesday.

There were two visitors, Peter Jackson from Hawksnest and Peter Real (Graham`s son) from Bangkok.

Many thanks to Kim for arranging all the carts, tea/coffee etc, much appreciated by all. The FNQVGA have not played G/Vale since June and the greens were a marked improvement on our last game so much so that I must commend the Greens staff for their dedication to bring the course back to its glory days, WELL DONE GUYS.

Our sponsor today was DRUMMOND GOLF who not only have been a loyal sponsor this year to the Vets but also have just signed on to sponsor us yet again in our 2020 Program, many thanks Darren, the reason our prices remain low is because of people like you who support our senior citizens.

Next weeks game will be a stableford event at MAREEBA GOLF CLUB hope to see you all there.

Just a heads up, the following game will be on Monday 4th Nov at Half Moon Bay GC due to the running of the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday 5th.

Next Game Gordonvale 22 Oct

All,

Our next game is the final comp round for the year for the Ted Thomasson trophy.  It is a single stableford at Gordonvale golf club.

The course should be in good condition generally after the Cairns Hardware Classic being held this weekend.

The bunkers have been renovated, the drain is clear along its full length & greens are on the improve.  The only thing to be careful of is keeping out of the trees, as balls tend to disappear under the leaf litter.

The game is sponsored by Drummond Golf.

See you there.

President Report & Results for Atherton Golf Club 15 Oct 19

PRESIDENT REPORT – ATHERTON GOLF CLUB 15 Oct 19

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford at ATHERTON Golf Club with a good rollup of 79 golfers consisting of 65men & 14 ladies. There were two new members, Brad Snow from Atherton and Eben Ingram from Wolston Park, welcome to the Vets guys.

The course was in great shape with a lot of run which suits the Vets just fine thank you. The weather was just fantastic which made for a great day out, many thanks to Cheryl & Irish for getting us going this morning much appreciated by all.

Our sponsor today was BROTHERS LEAGUES CLUB who are one of our loyal sponsors, our members constantly frequent their establishment to show our support back to Brothers.

I mentioned today that we now are using our own NTP holders as well as our own markers, red (ladies) & white (men) on every course played, please ensure that if you are closest to the pin put your name & witness on the relevant sheet and place/move the marker to where your ball finished. There was a situation today whereby a name was on the sheet but the marker was not on the green which makes it impossible for groups following to ascertain the distance without the marker on the green.

The FNQVGA Committee is currently in negotiations with Cairns GC (caterer) to finalise the menu for our end of year Presentation Day on 03 Dec 19, as a heads up, very similar to last year with a similar cost per head.

Next weeks game will be a stableford event at GORDONVALE GOLF CLUB hope to see you all there.

The course was in excellent condition, many thanks to the greenkeeper and his team, thanks also to Anton & Jo for getting us away on time and the weather was fantastic which makes for a great day at the office for our members.

Our sponsor today was STRATFORD PAINTING CONTRACTORS, many thanks to Gordon Perry for his support throughout the year. If anyone needs a paint job please call Gordon for a quote, his number is on our blog.

There was a memorable moment today for one of our members, Su Zheng on the 8th hole, her tee shot went into the pond, Su then reloaded and proceeded to put her next shot straight in the hole for an easy par, congrats Su sorry it does not count for a hole-in-one.

Next weeks game will be back to single stableford at ATHERTON Golf Club, hope to see you all there.

President Report & results Mareeba GC 01 oct 19

PRESIDENT REPORT – MAREEBA GOLF CLUB 01 Oct 19

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford at MAREEBA Golf Club with an excellent attendance of 97 golfers consisting of 72men & 25 ladies. There was one visitor, Kevin West from Mareeba GC who is about to join the Vets once he has completed his three cards and has a full handicap.

The course was in excellent condition and the best I have seen it in a long time, tees, fairways and greens superb and a credit to Rod Cade and his team. Many thanks also to Gabbi & Deb for spoiling us as usual and we will see you both soon as we return on the 29th Oct. Even though I have been advised by many not to mention the weather ever again, I must say that the weather was fantastic which made for an enjoyable day on the golf course.

Our sponsor today was BROTHERS LEAGUES CLUB who are one of our loyal sponsors and our members constantly frequent their establishment to avail themselves of Brothers hospitality and to show our support back to Brothers.

The Captain mentioned at presentation for all players to ensure their card is correct but more importantly legible before they hand it in as he is the one that has to input the scores into GOLFLINK and if he cannot decipher them, they are a big chance of ending up in the bin. A small request people.

Prizes from the monster raffle yet to be collected (please see me next week at registration) are;
Aartje Ottens- shower rack. Eric Haworth- Happy Holidays pack. Brian Guest- White Lid Containers & Peter Doherty- Shallow bowl.

Next weeks game will be a stroke event at CAIRNS Golf Club, hope to see you all there.
