FNQVGA OPEN at Cairns Golf Course 1 & 2 July - Welcome & Timesheet

CAPTAIN'S WELCOME

I would like to welcome all entrants and their partners to the Far North Queensland Veteran Golfers Association's 36 Hole Tournament being held at the Cairns Golf Club. This welcome is especially extended to those of you who have travelled long distances to participate and it is the hope of the FNQVGA that everybody has a great couple of days.

Attached is the draw for the event to played next Monday and Tuesday. You will find that in most cases, you will be playing at approximately the same time on both days. The majority of players who commence on the 1st hole on the Monday will commence play from the 10th on the Tuesday and vice versa. Whilst every endeavour has been made to accommodate your requests, please check the time sheets for any variations in your tee-times. Please collect your cards from the Registration desk which will be located inside the Club House.

All players have been entered into the computer system at Cairns Golf Club using the handicaps supplied by each of you in the Entry Forms you submitted. It is the player's responsibility to ensure that they are playing off the correct handicap on the day and this should be checked as soon as practical prior to the Tournament commencing. If a player's handicap has been increased or decreased, they are required to make a note of that fact on their scorecard prior to its return after the first round. ALL HANDICAPS WILL BE FROZEN FOR THE ENTIRETY OF THE TOURNAMENT.

It is requested that, at the conclusion of your round, prior to handing in your card, you enter your score into the computer kiosk in the Clubhouse. All that will be required to be entered is your total Stableford score and the score you had for the last nine holes. Whilst a great many Clubs are now using some form of computer system to process their competitions, there are others that are not. If you have any difficulty or reluctance whatsoever in entering your card, please let one of the people processing the cards know and you will receive assistance. By entering your cards, a live up-to-date Leaderboard will be displayed on a T.V. set in the main Bar area.

There will be two Grades for the men and one Grade for women. The Men's Grades will be Division 1, 0-19, Division 2, 20-36. All ties will be decided by a count-back, last 9, last 6, last 3, and then individual holes back from Hole 18.

Any protests must be submitted to the Match Committee, as soon as practical after the completion of the round.

I trust that everyone will have a great time, play great golf and enjoy the company of each other during their rounds and afterwards.

Thanks,
Captain Greg.
FNQVGA.

President's Report

A beautiful cool morning warmed up to a clear day with a light breeze for the best field of the year as 121 men & 29 ladies turned up to a course in great condition after the club championships the previous weekend. Congratulations to the greens staff, who were also busy repairing damage to the first green caused by vandals the night before.

Thank you to the caterers who did a good job of keeping up with our numbers. Thanks also to Brothers Leagues Club for sponsoring the event.

Welcome to visitors Charlie Langham of Wauchope, Peter Buckman of Yallourn, Brian Gaudian of Cobram/Barooga, Trevor Harlow of Colonial, Shawn Wolstenholme of Riverside Oaks, Burt Smith of Albury, Kerry & Vic Aanensen of Amstel, & Gary Mostyn of Howlong & to new member Richard Staines of Cairns. Our membership for the year to date stands at 286.

I must offer my apology for misleading some players at the start of the comp today by stating it was Bisque. Someone queried what game it was with me at a busy time & I had looked at the wrong date. However, after explaining my error to our long suffering Captain (& receiving a dirty look) he has converted any bisque scores to stableford so no-one missed out. Thank you Greg.

Our next games are our Open on Monday & Tuesday next week, both single stableford at Cairns sponsored by Drummond Golf. Nominations for this event have now closed. The starting sheets are being prepared & will be emailed out to all for whom we have email addresses as well as being posted to this blog.

Anyone who has not nominated for the Open may still turn up on the day at registration between 7 & 8am & will be tagged on at the end of the field if we can fit them in. However, as we have a full field at present places will be limited.

Our last raffle before the Open was drawn – Winner Bruce Walters, Second Merv Haines. Congratulations.

There have been some changes to our program and copies of the amended program for the rest of the year will be posted to this blog as well as being available at registration. Following a dispute with Mossman golf club, the games there on 9 July & 10 September have been cancelled. We will be playing Millaa Millaa on 9 July and Babinda on 10 September, both games counting towards the Patron's Trophy. Also, the Bisque game at Half Moon Bay on 30 July has been changed to a single stableford Consistency event, and the single stableford at Atherton on 1 October has also been designated a Consistency event.

Next Game Half Moon Bay 25 Jun

All,

Our game next Tuesday is at Half Moon Bay, sponsored by Brothers Leagues Club.

As they will have just had their Championships, the course should be in prime condition.  Greens will not have been shaved, but will have been rolled, so will be firm & good practice for our Open at Cairns the week after.

I'm sure the caterers will look after us well as usual.

See you there.

Louis Siedle

PS For those who failed to spot my mistake yesterday, I've altered the date in the heading to the correct one!
