President's Report & Results Atherton 28 August

President's Report &
Results of the Stroke Round
Played on 28th August 2012

President's Report

The course was in good condition with plenty of run & greens a bit slower than those experienced over the last 2 weeks, but still presenting a challenge. Well done to the greens staff & volunteeers.

The day was pleasantly cool with some overcast periods & it was a pity more did not take advantage of it. We had a field of 81, including 10 ladies.

Thanks to Owen & Debbie for the usual catering & to the club for sponsoring the day.

Welcome to visitors Martin Walton from Mullumbimby, NSW, Kevin Whyte from Perth & Dave Hazlett & Geoff Finlen from Atherton. We also had 2 ladies renewing membership, which stands at 332 for the year to date.

Our next game is a single stableford at Half Moon Bay. (This was changed from Cairns because of a double booking.)

Look forward to seeing you there.

Next Game Atherton 28 August

All,

Our game next Tuesday is at Atherton.  This is the final stroke round for the year which, with the 2 rounds of the Championship, qualify for the Stanton Bailey trophy.

Owen tells me the course is in good condition,, with the greens a bit slower than they were for their Open, which will be a relief for some of us after the last couple of games!

I expect we will be looked after well as usual by Owen & Debbie, so look forward to seeing you there.

Louis Siedle

PS  Just a reminder that the game after that is at Half Moon Bay & not Cairns where we were double booked.

PPS  For golf widows, a little poem forwarded to me by Greg Gibb & penned in 2000 by Mrs. Lesley Southon of Minnamurra, the wife of Bill, an ardent Veteran Golfer.

A LAMENT SHARED BY ALL VETERAN GOLFERS' WIVES

I hope we don't die on a Tuesday,
The fellas won't like it at all,
'Cos the day we select,
Would be the day they elect
to play for an autographed ball.

Oh, I hope we don't die on a Tuesday,
The abuse would come loudly and thick,
"We're sorry they've gone, but
When all's said and done,
There were six other days they could pick".

I hope we don't die on a Tuesday,
Another day would be fine,
'Cos they'll just bare their head,
P'raps a prayer will be said
and they'll continue on up the back nine.

But if we should die on a Tuesday,
We'd be very sorry, of course,
For demise on that day
means the Devil to pay and
most certainly grounds for divorce.

President's Report &
Results of the 2nd Round FNQVGA Championship
Played on 21st August 2012
at Mareeba Golf Club
114 Players

President's Report

The course was in excellent condition with plenty of run & fast, but true greens. Well done to the greens staff & volunteeers.

We couldn't have asked for a better day but scoring was still an effort for many! We had a reasonable field of 114, including 26 ladies.

Thanks to Jenny for the usual catering & also providing a platter of nibblies for each group on completion of their round. Thanks also to Savannah Lifestyle Resorts for sponsoring the day & for Melody for taking the time to speak about their facilities & present the prizes. A group of us went to see the facility after the game & can recommend a visit to others contemplating a move or change to a gated community.

Welcome to visitors Jan Weir from Mareeba & Bev Hosie from Woodonga, Vic..

Our next game is at Atherton & is another stroke round, being the final qualifier for the Stanton/Bailey Trophy.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Also, please note that we have had to shift the game after that, ie the 4th September, from Cairns to Half Moon Bay because of a double booking.  If you are in regular contact with anyone without email/computer access, please let them know.

President's Report

The City of Cairns week of competitions at the club just over meant the course was in fine condition with greens very fast but true & the gardens coming on apace. Well done to all involved.

After an overcast start, the day cleared & the breeze got up to present challenging conditions which were reflected in the scores. We had a good field of 137, including 29 ladies & one membership renewal, which takes our total for the year to date to 330.

Welcome to visitors Alyster Bailey from Brisbane, Bev Hosie from Woodonga, Vic., Peter McGregor from Auckland, NZ, Bill Stiler from Harvey Bay & Tony Plant & John Eddy from Cairns.

Our next game is the second & final round of our Championship at Mareeba golf club on 21st August & another stroke event. Next Game Cairns 14 August

All,

Our next game on Tuesday is the first round of our Championship & is a stroke event sponsored by Golf World.

As Cairns GC has just finished the City of Cairns comp, you can expect the course to be in good condition with fast greens, especially after the recent lovely week of drying weather.

Registration is as usual between 7 & 8am & entrants must have been a financial member of FNQVGA for a period of 2 months prior & have played at least 3 events in our program.  As we expect a big field, don't be late.

A plate of nibblies will be provided to each group after their game.

See you there.

President's Report & Results Gordonvale 7th August

President's Report &
Results of the Single Stableford Competition
Played on 7th August 2012
at Gordonvale Golf Club
105 Players

President's Report

Unfortunately the City of Cairns comp. at Cairns GC, as well as restrictions on the numbers of carts available because of changeover of old stock, impacted our game today & we had a smaller field than usual. However, the course was in fine condition with greens up to the standard of 5 years ago, bunkers well raked & plenty of run thanks to the ground firming up after the run of fine, clear weather. Well done the greens staff. After a chilly start, the day warmed up to provide a pleasant outing.

Thanks to Lionel, Emily & Kim who looked after us well as usual & to the club for sponsoring the day.

Welcome to visitors Alister Bailey from Brisbane, Bev Hosie from Woodonga, Vic., Peter McGregor from Auckland, NZ, Steve Pawliw from Yallourn in Gippsland, Vic., & Craig Thelan from Gove, NT, (who obviously provided his father with the moral support he needed to win Div 1!)

Our next game is the first round of our Championship at Cairns golf club on 14th August & therefore a stroke event.  (Please note that to play in the Championship, a player must have been a financial member of the Association for 3 months prior to the date of the Championship & have played at least 3 events in our program.)

To console you for the extra effort involved in having to count every shot, each group will be provided with a plate of nibblies at the end of their round!

Look forward to seeing you there.

Next Game Gordonvale 7th August

All,

Our game next Tuesday is at Gordonvale golf club.

The course is in fine condition, with the greens running quite fast & true after responding well to a program to bring them back to what they were some years ago.  Drains are all dry, but the weeds in some have grown a bit making finding a ball hard, so keep an eye on where you go in!

As mentioned in my last report, the club is in the process of changing their buggies & have only 5 serviceable at present, all of which I believe have already been booked for the day.

See you there.
