President's Report

A good field of 111 men & 28 ladies turned up on a perfect winter day to tackle a course that had just hosted the Schweppes Classic, so the greens were slick & the course in good condition with bunkers well prepared. Despite the great weather, the scores indicated it was a challenging track! Congratulations to the greenkeepers.

Thanks to the caterers who looked after us well as usual & to Yorkeys Knob Boating Club for sponsoring the day.

Welcome to new member Leonie King of Half Moon Bay which brings our membership up to 329 for the year.  Also it was good to see Cathy & Bill Coverdale back after a long absence.

Welcome also to visitors Alister Bailey from Brisbane, Bev Hosie from Woodonga, Vic., Peter McGregor from Auckland, NZ, Pam & Mal Sandon from Sandhurst, Vic., & Paul Dick of Half Moon Bay.

Our next game is at Gordonvale golf club on 7th August. Please note that because the club is in the process of replacing carts, there will only be 5 available on the day & I understand those have been booked already.

Look forward to seeing you there.

President's Report & Results 24th July at Atherton

President's Report &

Played on 24th July 2012
at Atherton Golf Club

President's Report

A beautiful day with a chilly breeze enticed 74 men & 18 ladies to the Tablelands for a game at Atherton. The greens were excellent, fast & true & the course in good condition with bunkers playing well according to Treasurer Col, who found most of them! Well done greenkeeper Justin. Thanks also to the club for sponsoring the day & to Owen & Debbie for looking after us.

Welcome to new member Kerry McDonald of Innisfail. Our membership is now equal to last year's 326.

I asked Lois Tait to take a position on the committee to replace George Kyriazis who resigned recently to remain in Bamaga for a few more months. Thanks for agreeing to do so Lois.

However, we would still appreciate another member to come on for the period up to our AGM in December to cover for 3 existing members heading off at various times from mid September. If they would be prepared to understudy our Treasurer, all the better, as Col would like to step down at the AGM, as I intimated last week.

If you feel you can give a bit of time to serve on the committee, please contact any existing committee member.

IMPORTANT: The dates of our Championship have been altered. First round is 14th August at Cairns. The second round is on 21st August at Mareeba.

Our next game is at Half Moon Bay golf club on 31st July.

Look forward to seeing you there.

President's Report & Results 17th July at Gordonvale

President's Report &
Results of the Single Stableford Competition
Played on 17th July 2012
at Gordonvale Golf Club
138 Players

President's Report

A good field of 28 ladies & 110 men turned up on an overcast day that turned out well to play a course that was in good condition. The greens were a bit slow & an ongoing improvement regime had surrounds with bare patches, but these were GUR, so posed no particular problems. The day was sponsored by the Association.

Welcome to visitors, Leigh Barry from Greenbeach, Tas., Charlie Langham from Wauchope, NSW, Bill Stiller from Hervey Bay & Peter McGregor from Auckland, NZ.

Welcome also to new members Roger Glover, Phil Pearce from Innisfail, Robert Kum from Boxhill, Vic., & Walter & Marlene Schlechtriem from Sawtell, NSW. Our membership is now 319 for the year.

Thanks to Tom Bryce for preparing the board for us as usual & for Lionel & Emily for looking after us at the bar & making up the sandwiches.

One of our committee members, George Kyriazis, has resigned as he is currently in Bamaga enjoying the fishing whilst his wife is working in the hospital there & has had her contract extended for another few months. (Remember your former mates on the committee when you get back George – we all like lobster!)

We are now 2 members down & will have a further 3 heading off at various times over a few weeks from September, so we really need some additional members to take us up to our AGM in December, or the smooth running of our competitions may be severely affected.

If you feel you can give a bit of time to serve on the committee, please contact any existing committee member.

Also, our Treasurer, Col McDowall, has indicated he would like to step down at the AGM after 9 years in various roles on the committee, so if there are any members who feel they could handle this job, please let us know, as the position is an important one which should have a decent familiarisation/handover period.

Our next game is at Atherton golf club on 24th July.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Next Game Gordonvale 17th July

All,

Our game next Tuesday is at Gordonvale golf club, which is in good condition despite the rain last week.

The drains are still dry except under the bridges, so you can 'grip it & rip it', but there are patches around some greens that have been treated for weeds, are bare or sanded & were not declared GUR on Saturday, so may give rise to some unpredictable bounces, or more unpredictable than usual that is!

Look forward to seeing you there.

President's Report & Results 10th July at Half Moon Bay

President's Report &
Results of the Single Stableford Competition
Played on 10th July 2012
at Half Moon Bay Golf Club
42 Players

President's Report

A night of heavy rain with an overcast drizzly morning put off all but the dedicated! However, the 42 players that turned up were only bothered by a brief shower around the halfway point.  The course was in fine condition with some interesting breaks on some greens & the rain only resulted in bunkers GUR.  Congratulations to the greenkeepers.

Thank you to Rob Brydon's Pro Shop for sponsoring the event. As we are back at HMB at the end of the month, I'm sure the vouchers he provided will be put to good use.

Welcome to new members John Barber of Geelong & Chris Leix of Half Moon Bay, also to the 16 joining members from Mt Isa.

Welcome also to four visitors, Kiwamu Okuda from Japan, Roger Glover from Cairns, Phil Pearson from Yarrambat, Vic, & Peter McGregor from Pakuranga, NZ. This brings our membership for the year up to 314.

Our next game is at Gordonvale golf club on 17th July.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Next Game Half Moon Bay 10th July

All,

Our game next Tuesday is at Half Moon Bay & I'm told the course is in excellent condition in preparation for the FNQ Golf Championships at the weekend, so the greens may be a bit slick!

The club are sponsors for the day & look after us well in the catering department as well, so come along & enjoy the day, although you'll need to rug up if this cool breeze continues as forecast.

See you there,

A good field of 29 ladies & 75 men took advantage of a day which turned out fine if a bit cool to take on a well prepared course although the greens had been cored recently.

Thanks to the staff for looking after us & keeping up with the sandwiches despite also having a comp on after us. Thank you also to the Mossman Golf Store for sponsoring the event.
