President's Message 27th September 2011

Veteran Golfers

Thank you to the 107 golfers who contested today's event.

Thank you Gordonvale Golf Club for sponsoring and hosting todays event. The course certainly had some run and the greens were great. The results reflect that. Thank you once again.

Welcome to our visitors Darrell Horn from Coomealla, NSW, and Ted Spring Strathallan, Vic.

Welcome to new members Edward Mackie of Paradise Palms and Rod Owens of Cairns. That takes our membership to 321.

We are seeking people who are interested in joining the committee next year, there will be at least 3 vacancies from the current committee. See Lou Siedle for more details.

I will be resigning as President from the 4th October 2011 as we are moving south in the next couple of weeks. Lou Siedle will take over as President until the AGM in November, hopefully past then as he will stand for the position for 2012. Lou has been on the Committee for nearly 2 years as Vice President and he has a good knowledge of all the positions and procedures of the current operation. I wish Lou well.

Events happening in the future: Tuesday 4th October the Single Stableford event is hosted by Half Moon Bay Golf Club, then Tuesday 11th October it is a Single Stableford at Atherton Golf Club followed on Tuesday 18th October Single Stableford at Cairns Golf Club, this event is the Cancer Council Event, entry fee for that day will be $10 with $3 of that going to the Cancer Council, wear yellow if you want to make an impact.

Hope you will be at these games

Welcome to two new members Peter Mullins from Mareeba Ken Tait from Atherton, that takes our total to 319.

The Committee have decided to support the "Cancer Council, Call to Arms" at our fixture at Cairns Golf Club on 18th October 2011. All players will be charged $10 to play on that day, $3 per player will be given to the Cancer Council. To also show your support you could wear something yellow on that day.

Something different we are trying this year is the Annual Presentation will be held when the players complete their round on the AGM Day 22nd November. The AGM is held at 8:00am and there is a shotgun start at 8:30am so we should have a large group in attendance straight after the finish of play, and prior to the days presentation. We would appreciate as many players as possible are in attendance, particularly trophy winners.

The next games are Tuesday 27th September at Gordonvale Golf Club, Single Stableford,  then Tuesday 4th October at Half Moon Bay Golf Club, Single Stableford.

Next Game Mareeba GC 20th September

Veteran Golfers

Next Tuesday 20th September, Mareeba Golf Club are hosting us. Mareeba, I expect will have a lot of run on the fairways and fast greens. Mareeba Golf Club always present us with a very well prepared course.

The event is a Single Stableford and is sponsored by TGT Hardware, Mareeba. They have been long time supporters of Veteran Golfers and I thank them for the continued support.

Next Monday at about 1:00pm Golflink will close down until about 4:00pm on Wednesday 21/9, this is to make changes to the handicapping system. So if you go online to check your handicap do it before 1:00pm Monday 19/9. It also means we will not be able to process Tuesday's event until after 4:00pm on Wednesday, which will probably mean we don't do it until Thursday morning.
Certainly you need to look at your handicap after  Wednesday  as the new calculation system will change most handicaps.

This is what is happening

Details of the Four Priority Changes
The following Four Priority Changes to the GA Handicap System will come into effect on
Wednesday 21 September:
1. Alter ‘Best 10 of 20’ to ‘Best 8 of 20’.
2. Change the Multiplier from 0.96 to 0.93.
3. Introduce an Anchor which will prevent a player’s handicap from increasing any
more than 4 strokes beyond their best exact handicap from the previous 12-month
rolling period.
4. GOLF Link will cap the score that goes into a player’s handicap record at no more
than the following amount over the course rating:
· 50-women
· 40-men

It is getting to the latter part of the year, which means we are preparing our 2012 Program as well as getting ready for the AGM etc. If you are interested in becoming part of the committee, please make it known to us, you probably have an idea of what it entails, but let me tell you it is the best environment I have worked in a committee. The members are all appreciative of the efforts and I find it very rewarding. There will probably be three positions vacant this year.

When making up the Program, it also means filling spots for sponsors, if you know of any company or person who is willing to sponsor an event or more during the year, please talk to me about it. It is always good to have sponsors who are local to the area we play. A good example of this is Mareeba, the majority of sponsors there are local sponsors.

The next games after Mareeba are Tuesday 27th September is Gordonvale Golf Club, Single Stableford, then  Tuesday 4th October is Half Moon Bay Golf Club, Single Stableford.

Hope to see you at these games

Regards
Ross

President's Message 6th September 2011

Veteran Golfers

The weather really gave all the golfers at Mossman Golf Club a treat today, the skies cleared, nice breeze and not too hot. I am sure the 109 golfers playing today enjoyed it.

Mossman Golf Club gave us a magnificent course to play on. With the Tees fairly well to the back all day the course played long,  that was helped by the amount of run.The Tees and Greens were great, you really had to read your putts. The Clubhouse hospitality was second to none thank you Mossman Golf Club for the day.

Welcome to our visitors David and Cheryl Thomson from Singleton, Dean Murtlock form Mossman, Ken Tait from Atherton.

Welcome to two new members: Belle Gillan and Beverley Cowe, I hope you enjoy playing with us.

The next games are, Tuesday 13th September at Cairns Golf Club, Single Stableford, then Tuesday 20th September at Mareeba Golf Club, Single Stableford.

Hope to see you at these games

Next Game Mossman GC 6th September

Veteran Golfers

Mossman Golf Club are hosting our game next Tuesday 6th September. The event is a Single Stableford.

Mossman tells me the fairways are a bit dry (lots of run) tees and greens are great. They are looking forward to us coming up, they always have sandwiches etc available in the break as well as the finish.

The event is sponsored by Norm Lockwood, thank you Norm for your support of Veterans Golf.

I always enjoy playing Mossman Golf course as I feel it has interesting variation. There are fairways where you can open up and have a hit, then there are fairways where you need to be very conservative, and interesting par threes.

Next games after Mossman are Tuesday 13th September is at Cairns Golf Club, followed by 20th September at Mareeba Golf Club

Hope to see you at these games
