Presidents Report & Results from Cairns GC 30 Mar 21

PRESIDENT REPORT –CAIRNS GOLF CLUB 30 Mar 21

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford event at Cairns Golf Club and there were 97 players consisting of 73 men & 24 ladies. There were eight new members; Alan McFarlen & Debbie Holland from Gordonvale GC, Jacqui Purdon from Alyangula, Maria Ling & Stephen Willis from Half Moon Bay GC and Simon King, Greg Perrott, Gordon & Noeleen Massey all from Cairns GC. Welcome to the “Vets” all of you and I hope you enjoy your stay.

There was a lot of confusion yesterday and I was pleased to see that almost all of our members turned up with the right attitude, masks in hand and ready to abide by whatever the current COVID rules were in place. Well done to you all and also congrats to the staff at Cairns GC for not only allowing us to play but for going the extra mile for the set up of their clubhouse/pro-shop so our committee could carry on as “ops normal” regardless of the vague government instructions provided on Monday.

Our sponsor today was DRUMMOND GOLF who are a great support to us so please if you require golf gear drop in to see Darren and his team, I guarantee they will look after you. The weather (albeit very windy) was great and the course was in tip top condition due to Tim, his team and many volunteers.

We are now back to normal playing weekly so please check the Program, next week is a single stableford event at Mareeba GC and the sponsor is the REEF CASINO, hope to see you all there and if the COVID rules change between now and then I will post a message on the blog.

Game on at Cairns GC Tuesday 30 Mar 21

 Hi Members,

Tomorrows game at Cairns GC is on, we will be setting up the registration area on the balcony at the normal time. As per Gov regulations please ensure that you have a mask when leaving home as the FNQVGA as well as the GC cannot provide masks.

There will be 2 tees available with 4 per gaggle so playing conditions will be normal but the mask wearing will be required when going inside the Pro-shop or bar area.

President`s Report & Results from Atherton GC Tuesday 16 Mar 21

PRESIDENT REPORT –ATHERTON GOLF CLUB 16 Mar 21

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford game at Atherton Golf Club and there were 74 players consisting of 59men & 15 ladies. There were five new members; Lindsay Caspers from Coomealla, Tony Fuller from HMBGC, Grahame Webster from Mt Garnet, Tony Brown from Atherton and Wayne Morris from Millaa Millaa welcome to the Vets. Russell Trost visited us from Strathpine.

The weather and course were absolutely perfect and apart from the golf a great time was had by all. Many thanks to Cheryl and “Pup” for getting us out and about. Congrats to the greens staff as the course was closed just 1 week ago.

Our sponsor today was CAZALY`s AFL who have also returned again to support us in 2021. Members please drop into Cazaly`s and enjoy great meals, entertainment and you might even win on the pokies.

There has been a slight change to the 2021 Program so if you have a hard copy check the blog and pen amend the couple of changes or print yourself a copy of the Program.

There is a rumour going around that one of our members (Dave Lawler) forgot his shirt when leaving home and had to buy one from Atherton GC, there is always a story at the Vets but I had to share this one.

Next week is the Tablelands Summer of Golf final game at Millaa Milla GC then we return weekly as per the Program.

Atherton cancelled but Milla Milla game on Tuesday 9 March

 Hi Members,

I have just been advised that the Tablelands Summer of Golf game scheduled for Tuesday 9th Mar at Atherton GC has been cancelled due to the weather, HOWEVER, Milla Milla has kindly agreed to host the game in lieu of Atherton.

Please pass this message on to all golfers that Tuesday`s game is at Milla Milla and not Atherton.

The Vets game scheduled for the following week is also Atherton and I will post a message next weekend after hearing from Atherton GC regarding the condition of their course.

Gordonvale cancelled

 Hi Members,

It is with much regret that I wish to advise that the game scheduled for Gordonvale GC tomorrow has been cancelled by the committee due to bad weather. The tropical low that is around us at the moment is predicted to form into a cyclone sometime Tuesday and the weather will only get worse.

The next game on the program is Atherton 16 Mar 21, lets hope the weather improves.

Regards

Robin
