FNQVGA Championships - Conditions of Play

 2014 FNQVGA CHAMPIONSHIPS 5th & 12th August

The following is a precis of the main conditions of play for this year's Championships. A fuller version my be obtained from Captain Greg if needed.
  • To be eligible a player must have been a member of the FNQVGA two months prior to the first day of the event, i.e. prior to 5th June, 2014. A player must also have played three games from the 2014 Program.
  • It is a Stroke event to be held at Mareeba and Cairns Golf Courses, respectively.
  • The player's Stroke & Stableford scores must be entered on the card to enable handicapping through Golf Link.
  • The Men's Championships will be played over three Divisions, to determined after the first day's play. The Ladies will compete in their own Division.
  • The Men's Divisions will be determined by using the players' exact Golf Link Handicaps on the first day. The Divisions and the Golf Link Handicap will be frozen for the duration of the Championships.
  • A player will remain in the Division determined by his Golf Link Handicap for both the Gross and Net events irrespective of any changes in his Daily Handicap caused by the Slope Ratings of each course.
  • A player's Golf Link handicap used on the first day will be retained for the second day. A list of those handicaps will be available on the second day for information of all players.
  • The Net Results will be calculated by using the player's Daily Handicap at each course and to determine this, the normal Lookup Charts should be used.
  • The Ladies Championships Gross and Net events will be conducted in one Division. The Net event will be conducted in a similar format to the Men's Championships.
  • Ladies are also requested to include their Stableford score as well as their Stroke scores.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR CARD IS SIGNED BY YOURSELF AND YOUR MARKER AND YOUR CORRECT DAILY HANDICAP IS INCLUDED.

If any member has a query either contact myself at registration on the day, or by phone.

Next Game Half Moon Bay 29 Jul

All,

Our game next Tuesday is at Half Moon Bay, sponsored by Brothers Leagues Club.

As previously announced it is NOT a 2 ball Ambrose as shown in the earlier program, but a single stableford Consistency event.

Over the last couple of years we have included a few different comps., 4ball & Ambrose, to provide variety from stroke & single stableford rounds, but also to allow us some leeway should some unforeseen circumstance arise.  This year, we had to cancel & modify a couple of Consistency events because of our extended wet, so have made one of those up by dropping the Ambrose on Tuesday.  It will also help get you in the mood for our Championships in August.

The new 3rd hole is now in operation at HMB - walk over from the 2nd green down to the new tee behind the 10th (by the croc island).  There is water on both sides of the fairway with about a 100 yard carry.  To make things easy, a drop zone has been designated on the fairway, marked by a blue stake, (not that any of our members will need it, I'm sure).

Please note that buggies will have to go around to the green by the track, walkers can stroll down the new fairway.  Please also note that the croc is still about, although on the further island, and he's only a wee one!

See you there.

President's Report & Results
of the Single Stableford competition
Played on 22nd July
at Atherton Golf Club

President's Report

69 men & 18 ladies who turned up to play on a course in fine condition enjoyed a chilly morning that warmed up to a beautiful day.  Congratulations to the greens staff & volunteers & thank you to the workers replacing the irrigation system around the 15th who considerately stopped work long enough to let groups play into the green.

Thanks to Cazalys AFL for sponsoring the day.  Thanks also to Owen & Debbie for looking after us with sandwiches & at the bar.

As a number of Consistency games had to be cancelled or modified because of the prolonged wet earlier in the year, we are making the HMB game on 29 Jul a single stableford Consistency event instead of the 2 ball Ambrose advertised in the program.

We are taking more orders for shirts, so if you would like one, please see Lois at registration or call her.

President's Report

A beautiful cool day brought 50 men & 18 ladies to Babinda for the first round of the Patron’s Trophy. The course was in good condition, although the greens took some getting used to & the drain gobbler fed well and the scores showed it was no pushover!  Congratulations to all the volunteers who maintain the course.  It must be a herculean task in the wet, but your efforts since the recent spell of dry weather were well rewarded & appreciated today.

Thanks to Australian Independent Retirees for sponsoring the day.  Thanks also to the ladies & volunteers who made the cakes & sandwiches for us & manned the bar.

Welcome to visitor Matt Lock of Babinda & new members Barry Vining of Arrowtown NZ, Peter Meyer of Bayview & Tessa Meyer of Half Moon Bay, who being our membership for the year to 267.

Our next game is at Gordonvale & is a Consistency event as well as the 3rd round of the Grand Slam comp introduced this year (see earlier blog posts).

We are arranging another training session on the defibrillator on 28 July.  If anyone want to come along, please contact me so we can give St John Ambulance an idea of numbers.

President's Report

We had 102 men & 33 ladies playing on day two - another beautiful day, albeit a bit cool & blustery.  All up we had 262 players over the two days & congratulations to all who took part & kept the pace of play up.

An event like this does not just happen without a lot of hard work & effort & I’d like to thank all the committee who put things together to make it a successful event.  I’m sure they will all enjoy a stiff drink or two when they get home.

Thanks to Drummond Golf for sponsoring the day & the whole tournament.  Thanks also to Jess & Ali on the bar & the caterers for producing the lasagne & fish & chips for lunch.  Also thanks to Kim & Michelle in the office & the staff in the Pro Shop for all they did to assist in making the event a successful one.
