Tee off from 7am, Nominate from 6.30

A little bit of trivia!

Last Wednesday the Beerwah Golf Club held a Medley Stableford in sight of the Glasshouse Mountains. The old Bruce Highway, now called Steve Irwin Way, runs along the side of the Course. They had 198 players in their popular mid-week comp. So, with no handicapping on the comp, what was the winning stableford score for 18 holes?

Was it

(A)    56 points

(B)    46 points

(C)    36 points?

To find out the answer be at presentations tomorrow.

In the "top end" they call it "the build up," when the temperature risers with the humidity in preparation for the wet season. RESULTS ATHERTON TUESDAY 16 SEPT.

It was a small group of hard-core golfers (20men and 2 ladies) who attempted to improve their consistency series scores in the gloom at Atherton Golf Course this morning. The course itself is in excellent condition, its was just a pity that the weather didn't cooperate. The numbers were probably affected by the FNQGA Seniors Championships on this Wednesday and Thursday.

We welcomed one new member from Atherton Golf Club Garry Maher who has relocated from the coast.

Because of the reduced numbers  the competition was revised to a Medley Stableford.

NEXT WEEK . CONSISTENCY #15 AT HALF MOON BAY. TEE OFF 7AM SPONSOR FNQVGA

BABINDA RESULTS TUESDAY 9 SEPTEMBER 2025

As correctly predicted by your scribe earlier this week, today was indeed the best day of the year to be playing the Babinda Golf Club. Even the 1mm of predicted precipitation failed to materialize and the temperature was very comfortable. How good is the Babinda course now? The greens would leave some of  the more glamorous courses panting! Congratulation to all concerned. Also congratulations to Gabrielle and her very jolly band of workers in the clubhouse- nothing is too much trouble.

Unfortunately the great course conditions could not draw out a great field but the 33 players (28men and 5 ladies) had an enjoyable day even though the scores don't reflect it. Remember that todays scores go towards the Patrons Trophy.

Our generous sponsor today was The reef Hotel Casino.

As correctly pointed out during play by the eventual winner,  MiScore had a little glitch with the Mens Handicapping, with most players given two or three shots more than they were entitled to. This has been corrected and the results below reflect the correct points scored.  The end result.was not affected

TODAY`S RESULTS:

MENS:

BABINDA PATRONS TROPHY TUESDAY 9 SEPTEMBER

FNQVGA  heads off to Babinda this Tuesday to play a single stableford for trophies by Reef Hotel Casino. It is the second leg of the Patron's Trophy which is the best aggregate score for the 9 hole courses we play, namely Innisfail, Babinda and Millaa Millaa.

Tee off from 7am, nominate from 6.30am

Babinda has an average annual rainfall of 4279.4mm however only 52.4mm of it falls in the month of September! And,  what is more encouraging, less than 1.5mm is predicted to fall on Tuesday morning when  the maximum temperature is expected to be 22℃. So, Tuesday morning is probably the best time to play Babinda Golf course all year, do yourself a favor and give it a go.

A beautiful morning greeted FNQVGA golfers at the picturesque Mareeba Golf Club this morning for Round number 13 in the race to the Consistency Trophy. 49 golfers (42 men and 7 ladies) had an enjoyable morning of golf. Also thanks to Brian for his efforts getting the buggies ready, behind the bar, making sandwiches and keeping everyone happy. What a multi-tasker?

Drummond Golf Cairns were the generous trophy donors today. Where would we be without them?

The highlight of the day was the ultimate golf shot from the very skillful Mark Davidson. Mark guided an 8 iron the 116m required into the hole on the 11Hole at the Half Moon Bay course.  Congratulation and thanks for the generous shout of the bar.

Thanks to everyone at the Half Moon Bay Golf Club for your hospitality and to Todd'N'Cath's  Kitchen.

Ladies Winner Doreen Law

With that "just aced the 11th smile" Mark Davidson!

Hole in One No 11 Half Moon Bay

To truly appreciate the difficulty of making a hole-in-one, it helps to consider the size of the target. The diameter of a golf hole is 4.25 inches, a standard set by the R&A in 1891. Even the most accurate shots need a perfect combination of trajectory, spin, and speed to drop into such a small target from 100+ meters away. Factor in wind, elevation changes, and green contours, and it’s easy to see why aces are such rare occurrences.

But none of this was too much for FNQVGA golfer Mark Davidson on the 11th Hole at Half Moon Bay this morning.  Playing at 116m this morning,Mark hit what he described as " the straightest 8 iron I  have  ever hit" to bounce a few times and then disappear. Once the fear of going "over the back" was allayed, celebrations followed  which included shouting the bar at the clubhouse after the round- a dangerous precedent but one appreciated by all in attendance.

Congratulations Mark on a shot well directed.

Mark Davidson celebrates his second "Hole-in-one" on the 11th at Yorkeys with FNQVGA Vice President Neal Arnott.

RESULTS CONSISTENCY ROUNF #12 ATHERTON GOLF CLUB TUESDAY 19 AUGUST

What a glorious day on the Atherton Tablelands this morning for the continuation of the FNQVGA Consistency series. The course was in excellent condition and the coastal dwellers found it a little difficult to come to grips with the speedy greens. Congratulations to Brendan, Stevie and their team of willing helpers.

In the clubhouse we thank Kory who was able to overcome his melancholy over his fellow countryman Robert MacIntyre's capitulation in the final round of the BMW Championships at Cave Valley Golf Club. Bobbie had a five shot lead going into the final round but could not cope with the pressure of Scottie Scheffler, however,  the $2.16M runners up cheque should go some way to consoling the molly-dooker Scot.

We had four new members join today. Neil Stubbin from Atherton, Johnny Evans from Mareeba; and Mike and Mary Scott from Cairns. Welcome aboard.

A big thank you to our generous Sponsor for today Brothers Leagues Club Cairns. Remember at Brothers you'll find  Fratelli’s, Cairns’ newest all-day dining destination. Open 7 days from 9am to 9pm, they serve up globally inspired dishes that are as delicious as they are photogenic. From light bites like fresh pastries, wraps, and gourmet salads to wood-fired pizzas on house-made dough, every meal is crafted by their talented chefs. Pair your dish with barista-made coffee, premium wines, or cocktails. Craving comfort food? Explore their pastas, seafood, and signature mains – all served with no public holiday surcharge.
