Next Game Mareeba 29 Aug

The game next week is the second round of our Championships, so is another stroke event at Mareeba.

The game is sponsored by Drummond Golf Cairns.

 An up to date list of handicaps corrected for play at Mareeba will again be available at registration.

To be eligible to play in our Championships, you must have been a financial member of our Association for a period of 2 months & have played in at least 3 of our events prior to it.  However, if you don't meet these criteria, you are welcome to come along & play in the day's comp.  A list of eligible members will be available at registration, but if you are not on it & feel you should be, then play in the day comp & we will double check the records to confirm if you are eligible, in which case you will be advised accordingly & your score entered for the championship.

We will be providing a platter of sandwiches for each group of 4 after they finish their round this week.  (Some members last week took a platter each instead of one per group, which left the tail-enders short, so we will be ticking off each group to make sure it doesn't happen again!)

Results of the day comp will be available as usual that night or next day, but the Championship results will not be available until the 3 men's grades & one ladies grade have been determined & cards rechecked.  A full printout of the Championship results will be available at registration for the second round & also published on this blog.

President's Report & Results Mareeba 22 Aug

Today was the first round of our Championships and as usual Mareeba put on perfect weather for the occasion, even though the locals would like to see a few good rainy days. As we have been doing for a few years we treated you to snacks and nibbles after the game and asked Gabi to put something together and she bettered even her own high standard, thank you Gabi and your 2I/C Jon.

94 men and 16 women tackled the course today and judging by the scores returned the dry conditions helped many of you.

The sponsor today was DRUMMOND GOLF and we thank them for the store vouchers awarded to the winners and runners up in each grade.

It is our policy to decide the grade cutoffs for our championships in a way that makes numbers in the grades about equal, so the halfway results will be available in a printout when we return for round 2 next week. In the interim the day event today was decided on nett stroke in our usual 2 men's grades & 1 ladies grade.

Next weekend is the 2 day Babinda Open so if you enjoyed the game there and the friendly atmosphere last Tuesday, you can download an entry form from the FNQ website. You can reach this from the LINKS list at the bottom of the left column on this page.

Our Championships run for the next two weeks & both games are held at the same club because the slope system makes it too difficult for handicapping purposes to hold it at different clubs with different slope ratings.   An up to date list of handicaps corrected for play at Mareeba will be available at registration.
