PRESIDENT REPORT –MAREEBA GOLF CLUB 08 Sep20

Hi Members,

Today`s game at Mareeba GC was a stableford event and there was a really good turnout of 95 players consisting of 77 men & 18 ladies. There was one visitor from Mareeba GC, Chris Benjamin and there was one new member also from Mareeba GC, Grahame Doeblien welcome to the Vets Grahame.

The course was in great condition and the temporary green on the 13^th was excellent, well done to Rod and his team and the weather was fantastic. Thanks very much as always to Gabi for the manner of which she looks after all of us and to Ken Baker for getting the big crowd going.

Our sponsor today was Stratford Painting Contractors (SPC) and the owner Gordon Perry fronted up for a game, good to see him mixing it with the best. Gordon`s motto is “there is no paint job too big or too small”, please contact Gordon when any painting is required.

I spoke briefly about committee positions that will become vacant at the AGM later in the year, if anyone is interested in coming on to the committee to lend a hand please see our Secretary Liz and she will take your details. Due to the COVID-19 we are still unsure of how the AGM will look like in Nov so we need to be prepared for whatever the situation is come November.

My thanks go out to Andrina for stepping up to the mark as Captain whilst Wal has been ill and also to Doug for taking everyone`s money each week but more importantly they have both been at the desk at 0630 every week. Well done to both of you and your efforts are appreciated by all members, both will be leaving the committee at the AGM.

Mareeba Tuesday 8th Sep

 Hi Members,

I have just been informed that the course at Mareeba is in very good condition and the weather prediction for next Tuesday is fine with a 5% chance of rain so all is good. Also Gabi has advised that there will be Sandwiches, Toasties ,Pies & Sausage Rolls available.

PRESIDENT REPORT –MILLAA MILLAA GOLF CLUB 01 Sep 20

Hi Members,

Today`s game at Millaa Millaa GC was a stableford event and there fewer numbers than normal, 51 players consisting of 38 men & 13 ladies. There were two visitors, Russell Horn from Gatton and Warwick Howarth from Millaa Millaa. There were three new members Gary Pozzi and Jenny Barrett from HMBGC and Greg Taylor from Millaa Millaa, welcome to the Vets in the Far North.

The weather was very cold early considering it was the first day of Spring and took it`s own good time to warm up but the sun eventually shone down on us and we stopped complaining. Many thanks to Margaret for the early brews, toast and hot food post game. The course was in very good condition and the volunteers are to be congratulated, well done to all at Millaa Millaa GC.

Our sponsor today was DRUMMOND GOLF, please support Drummonds when purchasing golf equipment as “they will lift your game”. Many thanks to Darren and his team.

Your Committee is currently sorting out options for the AGM at G/Vale and the Presentation/Lunch Day at Cairns at the end of the year. These games have become difficult due to the social distancing requirements imposed on us by the authorities as numbers in the clubhouse are very limited. Keep your eye on the blog as we have a couple of months to sort it out and rules may get relaxed the further we go.

The Captain decided to give out balls to those that played to their handicap which was Ross Ellen only on 36pts and a ball was given to all members who remained for the Presentation who did not receive a prize. Looks like it may be beneficial to stay back for the presentations as you can never pick her mood.

PRESIDENT REPORT –CAIRNS GOLF CLUB 25 Aug 20

Hi Members,

Today`s game at Cairns GC was a stableford event and there was a massive turnout of 123 players consisting of 97 men & 26 ladies. There were two visitors, Alan Dwyer from Burleigh Heads and Russell Banham from Keperra GC. There were two new members Mike Scott from Qantas GC? and Phil Stace from MossmanGC, welcome to the Vets gents.

The course was in excellent condition and the weather was fantastic. Thanks very much to Brie, Ben & Chloe for getting the big field off and running also Tim (greenkeeper) and his merry men for providing a great course in tip top condition reflected by the great scores below.

A message to all members please check the 2020 Program on the blog as we have just amended some venues to cater for not playing at HMBGC next month and November. Due to many members requests we have negotiated another game at Mossman GC to be played on 22 Sep 20.

A friendly reminder to all players please sign your card, play off the correct handicap and return your card to the registration desk after each game to ensure your score is recorded.

PRESIDENT REPORT –ATHERTON GOLF CLUB 18 Aug 20

Hi Members,

Today`s game at Atherton GC was a stableford event and there were 73 players consisting of 62 men & 11 ladies. There was one visitor again, Alan Dwyer who is here for 1 more week then heads south for more golf. There was one new member John Dunne from Atherton GC, welcome to the Vets John.

The course was in excellent condition and the greens were very fast and slippery, I did hear some stories about 4 & 5 putting, thanks Brendon and crew. Thanks very much to Cheryl, Dave & Irish for getting us out on time. The weather was winterish and very cold early but the sun warmed us up in no time and ended up a brilliant day.

Our sponsor was Stratford Painting Contractors (SPC) and if anyone needs a paint job (big or small) please call Gordon Perry and he will look after you. SPC support us and it would be very much appreciated if we support them in return.

Andrina aired all of the Championship winners and they will be on the blog in the near future for all to see.

COVID-19 Procedures for FNQVGA Members

 Hi Members,

Due to all of the COVID-19 activity within Australia & the world at the moment this is a timely reminder of how we should be conducting ourselves when playing in Vets events at all golf clubs on our 2020 Program.

Please use the following as a guideline when attending any of our weekly games;

1.    Sign the club`s COVID-19 sheet when entering the clubhouse.

2.    Complete card including handicap & golflink number.

3.    Proceed to Registration desk and pay for entry into the day`s event.

4.    Because there are limited numbers permitted inside the clubhouse please go outside and have a putt etc etc.

5.    Someone will then advise you of your gaggle and tee position to commence play.

At all times please ensure that you exercise social distancing as we do not want to get any clubs in trouble with the Authorities nor do we want the return of COVID-19 in our Region as golf courses are our "office".

Many thanks for your assistance with the above as it will make everyone`s job a lot easier and we are allowed to continue playing the game we love.
