PRESIDENT REPORT –CAIRNS GOLF CLUB 10 Nov 20

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford event at Cairns GC and there were 87 players consisting of 69 men & 18 ladies. We were on the course at 7am and all finished by 1pm a good effort by all members, well done to you all for keeping the pace of play up to speed. There was one new member, Kevin Cluff from Cairns GC, welcome to the Vets Kevin, I hope you enjoy your stay with us.

The course was in great condition again as Tim and his crew do a great job week in week out, congrats to all. Many thanks to Brie and Ben for getting us out on time and sorting out the carts etc. The weather was absolutely fantastic and with the little bit of overnight rain it created a green tinge on the fairways.

An update on George Atkinson from his fall at Babinda last week, he dislocated his ankle and has had an operation to screw everything back together again and is in good spirits resting at home in front of the TV.

Our sponsor today was Stratford Painting Contractors (SPC), many thanks to Gordon Perry for his continued sponsorship, Gordon fully intended to play today but alas work got in the way again.

PRESIDENT REPORT –BABINDA GOLF CLUB 02 Nov 20

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford event at Babinda GC and there were 57 players consisting of 49 men & 8 ladies. There were two new members, husband & wife Maureen and Michael Gossip from HMBGC, welcome to the Vets to you both and hope you enjoy your stay.

The course was in very good condition and the greens were the best I have seen for a long while, thanks mainly to all of the volunteers from Babinda, special thanks to Tommy, Pete and Walter for their hard work on the day. We all wish Walter the best and a speedy recovery from his medical condition.

Our sponsor today was Cazaly`s AFL which is much appreciated by all members, if you have a chance please drop into Cazaly`s for a meal, drink or play your hand at lady luck on the pokies. Our sponsors support us so we do also in return.

There was an incident today whereby George Atkinson slipped on the bridge at the 1^st hole and it would appear he may have broken his ankle. The Halls were on the spot and called the ambulance immediately and George was taken away in a good frame of mind. When Edna passes on his condition I will air it on the blog as many members passed on their best wishes to George and hope to see him back on the course sooner rather than later.

On a lighter note one of our members, no names (Ray Greig) had his brolly up and a sudden gust of wind picked his buggy up and dumped it into one of the drains that was full of mud and water. He retrieved it and he had mud up to his knees and his bag was completely awash with mud and water throughout. He was still trying to get his phone to work when I left.

Things seem to always happen at Babinda, must be something in the air as there was mention of lost balls on the fairway that may have been inadvertently picked up in error, please do not pick up any balls that are not yours as we as golfers can spray them 2 fairways over.

There was no ball run today however, as the Captain was the ladies winner she was in such a good mood that she gave every player who remained for the presentation a ball.

PRESIDENT REPORT –MAREEBA GOLF CLUB 27 Oct 20

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford event at Mareeba GC and there were 76 players consisting of 66 men & 10 ladies. Today was a special day for a special person, it was Gabi`s ??? birthday, congrats Gabi hope you had a great day and even better evening.

The course was in great condition due mainly to Michael Cade`s great work even after he fell in the water whilst getting the pump to work. The greens were the best I have seen at Mareeba for a long time, well done team. Thanks to Gabi and Ken for looking after the Vets as they usually do.

Our sponsor today was Stratford Painting Contractors (SPC), many thanks to Gordon Perry for his continued sponsorship, he even fronted up for a game today, unfortunately Gordo could not stay for presentations as he had to hurry home due to work commitments.

I will keep mentioning the AGM and if anyone is interested in joining the committee in 2021 please see Liz for the nomination form as all nominations will be confirmed at the AGM at Gordonvale on Tuesday 24 Nov 20.

Next week`s game will be a single stableford event at Babinda GC on Monday 2 Nov please don`t let it rain as we missed the previous scheduled game at Babinda due to rain and the sponsor will be Cazaly`s AFL, hope to see you all there.

PRESIDENT REPORT –GORDONVALE GOLF CLUB 20 Oct 20

Hi Members, 

Today`s game was a single stableford event at Gordonvale GC and there were 82 players consisting of 67 men & 15 ladies. There were two new members, Peter Van De Water from Gordonvale and Jack Murray from Cairns, welcome to the Vets guys. 

The course was very dry and firm due to no recent rains but the greens were a massive improvement since our last visit, congrats to the new greenkeeper and his crew, well done and keep up the good work. Many thanks to Dave and Peter for getting the Vets on the move early and also to Tommy Bryce for doing a good job on the whiteboard. 

Some very good scores today (7 x 39pts) as it was extremely hot and sticky but obviously a lot of our members loved the conditions and revelled in it. Another game when the ball run did not go down to the Pres, oh Andrina. 

Our sponsor today was the Drummond Golf, many thanks Darren for your continued support and I am sure our members are recipricating their support back to your business.

President Report & results Atherton GC 13 Oct 20

PRESIDENT REPORT –ATHERTON GOLF CLUB 13 Oct 20 

Hi Members, 

Today`s game was a single stableford event at Atherton GC and there were 76 players consisting of 60 men & 16 ladies. The course was in really good condition and the greens were a lot slower (which was good) than our previous visit and the weather was great. Many thanks to Pup for getting us going early on and to Brendon for the condition of the course. We did miss Cheryl`s smiling face but we heard she is having a good break at Mission Beach.

The changed tees 6 & 7 to 8 & 9 did catch one group out as they played the wrong holes in the incorrect order so unfortunately, they had to be disqualified but they will be all over it next time, everyone else followed the signs and completed the 18 as per the plan. 

Our sponsor today was the REEF CASINO “a great place to play”, many thanks to the Casino and I have just been told that they are sponsoring us again in 2021. Well done to the Reef Casino and I`m sure many of our members visit their establishment on a regular basis.

Atherton GC Tuesday 13 Oct

Members, Atherton GC have made some changes to their course, please note the changes below; Tuesday you will be using our new course layout, we have the new cards printed and tee signs renumbered 1-5 same ,old 8 becomes hole 6 ( where some of you will start) play in same order ,old 17th is new 15th then across to old 6th,new 16th ,up old 7th new 17th then back across road for 18th. It will be interesting to play a different way albeit the holes remain the same just have different numbers attached to them. See you all there and the weather is expected to be great. Regards Robin
