Atherton game Tuesday 27 April cancelled

 Hi Members,

Unfortunately the game scheduled for Atherton tomorrow has been cancelled due to bad weather and very consistent rain. The unseasonal rains have caused havoc with road closures but more importantly to us golf course closures. Many thanks to the Atherton Captain, Dave Morrison for keeping in contact with us as he is "johnny on the spot".

Next weeks game is scheduled for Mareeba and the sponsor will be the Oak Tree Retirement Village, lets hope the rain goes somewhere else and us golfers can get to play the game we love.

Gordonvale game tomorrow cancelled.

 Hi Members,

Due to the constant rain and the prediction of more this week we have had to cancel tomorrows game scheduled for Gordonvale GC. It is unfortunate but one of the downfalls of living in the Tropics. Please let those members who do not read the blog know so they can make other arrangements.

Next weeks game will be at Atherton and will be the first of two consecutive games, second one at Mareeba sponsored by Oak Tree Retirement Village. It will be a mini championship over the two games and the village Manager will be on hand to present the winners prizes, hope to see you all there.

PRESIDENT REPORT –MOSSMAN GOLF CLUB 13 Apr 21

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford event at Mossman Golf Club and there were 67 players consisting of 51 men & 16 ladies. There were two new members, both have rejoined from previous years; Peter Klein from Cairns GC and Greg Gibb from Links Shell Cove NSW, welcome back guys. Greg was a previous President of the Vets and it was great to see his smiling face again, he is visiting us for two weeks so look out for him next week at Gordonvale and say G`Day, I would love to say more but I know KARMA will get me.

It was great to be back at Mossman in 2021 and many thanks to the Manager Ralph and member Pris for looking after us and getting us off in time. The course was in fantastic condition and the weather was perfect yet again. Scores below reflect how impressive the course and conditions were considering 45pts was beaten on a count back and 41pts merely received a ball. Numbers were down a little today and COVID could have something to do with it.

Our sponsor today was STRATFORD PAINTING CONTRACTORS (aka Gordon Perry) who only told me last week that there is no job too big or too small for him to take on and he will look after Vets members if they require a paint job so give Gordo a call and he won`t let you down.

Hopefully the wearing of masks in Qld will cease on Thursday so entering clubs will be back to normal again, keep an ear out for the Premier`s announcement on Thursday.

PRESIDENT REPORT –MAREEBA GOLF CLUB 06 Apr 21

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford event at Mareeba Golf Club and there were 71 players consisting of 57 men & 14 ladies. There were three new members all from Mareeba GC they are; John Hortin, Tim Lambert & Grant Cupitt. Welcome to the “Vets” gents and I hope you enjoy playing at all of the venues on our Program.

Our sponsor today was the REEF CASINO who are one of our great supporters and have sponsored the Vets now for 3 years. Please drop in to the Casino for a great meal and lots of fun in the gaming areas.

The course was in great condition, many thanks to the grounds team and for Ken behind the bar etc and I must say the weather was absolutely perfect.

It was mentioned that our Captain Russ Gill managed to win HMBGC monthly Medal last week with a crazy 62 nett, well done Russ but I don`t see your name in the results today, they must have cut you 2 or 3 yeah?

For those wishing to attend Wal Anthony`s funeral, details are: Fri 09 Apr @ 1pm, St Rita`s Catholic Church Babinda followed by the internment at the New Babinda Cemetry, Face masks are required.

The Passing of Ex Captain Walter Anthony

 Hi Members,

It is my unfortunate duty to inform you that Walter Anthony (ex FNQVGA Captain) passed away in Babinda last night after a courageous battle with cancer.

I have no intention of making the blog an obituary column but Wal was a huge part of the FNQVGA family and the Babinda Golf Club.

Rest in Peace Sir Walter you will be sadly missed but never forgotten. Love to your family.

PRESIDENT REPORT –CAIRNS GOLF CLUB 30 Mar 21

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford event at Cairns Golf Club and there were 97 players consisting of 73 men & 24 ladies. There were eight new members; Alan McFarlen & Debbie Holland from Gordonvale GC, Jacqui Purdon from Alyangula, Maria Ling & Stephen Willis from Half Moon Bay GC and Simon King, Greg Perrott, Gordon & Noeleen Massey all from Cairns GC. Welcome to the “Vets” all of you and I hope you enjoy your stay.

There was a lot of confusion yesterday and I was pleased to see that almost all of our members turned up with the right attitude, masks in hand and ready to abide by whatever the current COVID rules were in place. Well done to you all and also congrats to the staff at Cairns GC for not only allowing us to play but for going the extra mile for the set up of their clubhouse/pro-shop so our committee could carry on as “ops normal” regardless of the vague government instructions provided on Monday.

Our sponsor today was DRUMMOND GOLF who are a great support to us so please if you require golf gear drop in to see Darren and his team, I guarantee they will look after you. The weather (albeit very windy) was great and the course was in tip top condition due to Tim, his team and many volunteers.

Game on at Cairns GC Tuesday 30 Mar 21

 Hi Members,

Tomorrows game at Cairns GC is on, we will be setting up the registration area on the balcony at the normal time. As per Gov regulations please ensure that you have a mask when leaving home as the FNQVGA as well as the GC cannot provide masks.

There will be 2 tees available with 4 per gaggle so playing conditions will be normal but the mask wearing will be required when going inside the Pro-shop or bar area.
