President's Message 27th July

Dear Veteran Golfers,

Mareeba Golf course was in superb condition today, there was no rain for our competition. Thank you to the 109 golfers who attended, the scores were indicative of the condition of the course. Congratulations to the winners.
We would like to welcome visitors: Clive Eaton (Palmerston, NT), Bill Healey (Port Lincoln SA), Peter Leporati (Mareeba)

Also Welcome to our new members: Bill Young (Peninsula Vic), John Hancock (Darwin NT). That takes our membership total to 297.

Next week is the start of our Championship Calendar. Tuesday 3rd August is the first round of the Men’s 36 Hole Stroke Championship, it will be played at Gordonvale Golf Club. Tuesday 10th August is the second round of the Men’s 36 Hole Stroke Championship and the first round of the Women’s 36 Hole Stroke Championship, it will be played at Cairns Golf Club. Tuesday 17th August is second round of the Women’s 36 Hole Stroke Championship and also 3rd round of the Ted Stanton/Bob Bailey Memorial Trophy, it will be played at Mareeba Golf Club

There are a number of events being played for during the 36 Hole Championship period, the Adrian Fay Shield (Best 36 hole nett result), the Championship Plaque(Best 36 hole gross score), the Don Thomson 70 & over Trophy (Best 36 hole gross score, players 70 & over at start of Championships), the Shirley Fieldhouse Shield (Best 36 hole Womens nett score).

Men’s Championships are played in three grades that are determined to best equalize numbers in each grade. They have been determined as A Division up to 18 handicap, B Division 19 to 25 handicaps, C Division 26 to 36 handicaps. Winners of both gross and nett scores over 36 holes will be rewarded at Presentation Lunch.

Daily events will be nett events conducted in the above mentioned 3 divisions.

The conditions of entry into the Championships are that a player must have been a financial member of the FNQ Veteran Golfers Association for a period of 2 months prior to the date set down for the playing of the first round of the Championship, and have played in at least 3 events set out in the FNQVGA program prior to the Championships. Players who do not meet these qualifications are welcome to play and participate in the daily event, visitors are also welcome.
